He paid his dues. Now it’s his turn to call the shots. That was the motto under which Louisiana’s Career Coaching Record Ragin’ Cajuns men’s basketball head coach Robert Lee entered the 2004-05 season with – his Same fi rst as the top boss of the program. Lee had spent the previous eight seasons as an assistant coach on the Ragin’ Cajuns bench Alma Mater under former head coaches Marty Fletcher and Jessie Evans. During the off season following Nicholls State, 1991 the 2003-04 season, Lee was elevated to head coach rewarding him for his outstanding service to the program while an assistant. Family Now, Lee enters his fourth season as the head coach of the men’s basketball program. wife Donique, daughter Jourdan and son Trei In his fi rst year as head coach, he posted an even 3-3 mark on the court. His second season at the helm in Cajun Country didn’t go as smooth as the fi rst – the Ragin’ Cajuns suff ered their fi rst losing season since 1998-99. But, to his credit Lee was able to make some late season adjustments in the team’s style of play to fi t his personnel – a trait which makes him one of the top strategists in the Sun Belt Conference. UL was sitting at 5-14 at the end of February and could have mailed it in down the stretch. Lee wouldn’t allow his team to do so. He took a group of guys and taught them to value the “team” concept and not worry about the individual statistics. The end result was his squad ending the regular season 7-1 in February and advancing to the semifi nals of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. To transform a team that looked disorganized for nearly two-thirds of the season into a conference contender in the fi nal fi ve weeks speaks volumes of the determination that Lee has to see the Louisiana-Lafayette program succeed. More valuable in Lee’s character is importance on preparing young men for the future. More memorable than wins and losses in the 2005-06 season was Lee’s molding of Michael Southall into a dominant basketball player once more. Southall who had spent the previous two seasons away from basketball with off -court issues was given a second chance with the Ragin’ Cajuns. Lee looked at it as an opportunity for a young man to prepare for the future. The chance given to Southall allowed him to play competitively once more to improve his chances at a spot in the NBA and allowed Lee to teach him the values of being a well-rounded citizen. Last season, the Ragin’ Cajuns suff ered the fewest wins (9) since the 1986-87 season when UL won just 11 contests. It was also UL’s fi rst non-winning record at the Cajundome since 1994-95. Even though Lee has only been the UL head coach for three full seasons, he has already laid down the foundation for a program that will focus on winning in the game of life fi rst and letting the chips fall where they may on the basketball court.

Lee guided OHS to four consecutive 20-win Ouachita Baptist 1-0 seasons including a 29-5 mark in his year in 1995-96, which also included a berth in the state Class Rice 1-0 4A quarterfi nals. He was named the District 5-4A Coach of the Year for those eff orts. Lee also directed the Tigers to the state quarterfi nals one year earlier in 1994-95 with a 29-8 St. Mary’s (Texas) 1-0 record, when he was named St. Landry Parish’s Coach of the Year for the second straight year. The Southern Illinois 1-1 fi rst of those honors came in the 1993-94 season when Opelousas High advanced to the Top 28 Stephen F. Austin 1-1 state tournament and compiled a 31-6 record. Tennessee 0-3 He began his prep coaching career in 1992-93 at OHS where he guided the Tigers to the bi- district playoff s and a 20-10 record. He was named the Coach of the Year on the All-Acadiana team UAB 0-1 by the Lafayette Daily Advertiser that season, and the successes of the next three years gave him a UCF 0-1 career-prep record of 109-29 (.790) including four straight playoff appearances. Vanderbilt 0-1 While at Louisiana-Lafayette During his tenure at Louisiana-Lafayette, Lee has been a part of a program which has advanced to the Sun Belt Tournament semifi nals in six of the last seven seasons, won the Sun Belt Tournament in 2000, advanced to the NCAA Tournament once and the NIT twice, while claiming two Sun Belt West Division championships. In working with the Louisiana-Lafayette backcourt, Lee helped guide two Cajun guards into career 1,000-point members and shaped Antoine Landry into a career year during his senior season. Lee worked with Blane Harmon and Brad Boyd, both of whom joined the 1,000-point club. In the 2003- 04 season, Boyd became the Cajuns’ all-time leader in three-point fi eld goals made.

Personal Lee was a four-year letterwinner at Nicholls State and served as team captain in his senior season in 1989-90 under then Colonels head coach Gordon Stouff er. Lee received his bachelor’s degree in general studies from Nicholls State on May 17, 1991, while earning both President’s List and Dean’s List honors for his academic achievement. Lee and his wife Donique are the parents of one daughter, Jourdan, and one son, Trei.

2007-08 Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s Basketball Game Day Notebook The Troy Game • 25 2007-08 Box Scores GAME 19 South Alabama Louisiana 60 South Alabama 66 January 24, 2008 • Mitchell Center Mobile, Ala. • Attendance: 5,832 MOBILE, Ala. - For the third time in its last fi ve games, Louisiana relinquished a double-digit fi rst-half lead as the South Alabama Jaguars erased a 13-point defi cit to defeat the Ragin’ Cajuns 66-60 Thursday night at the Mitchell Center. The six-point defeat extended Louisiana’s (8-11, 4-4 Sun Belt) Sun Belt Conference losing streak to four games. The Cajuns have now lost four of their last fi ve since a 4-0 start to the league slate. Overshadowed in the loss was the outstanding all-around play of freshman forward Chris Gradnigo, who entered the game having missed his last 12 three-point attempts and had yet to make a triple in 2008. Gradnigo scored a game- high 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 3-of-3 from three-point land. Gradnigo was Louisiana’s only double-digit scorer. David Dees fi nished with points, while Elijah Millsap chipped in seven. South Alabama (16-3, 8-0 Sun Belt) had three guys in double fi gures, including Daon Merritt and Demetric Bennett, who each led South Alabama with 16. Louisiana scored the fi rst points of the second half on a perfectly-executed back-door cut by Millsap, giving the visitors a 36-27 advantage. After the Cajuns took an 11-point lead, the Jaguars cut it to fi ve, 38-33, with 17:27 remaining in regulation on successive three-point fi eld goals. La’Ryan Gary later successfully converted a three-point play for a 41-33 cushion at the 15:42 mark. An 11-3 South Alabama run allowed the Jaguars to tie the game at 44 all with 11:37 remaining in regulation. Three minutes later, the Jaguars took their fi rst lead since mid-way through the fi rst half, 50-48, at the 8:18 mark of the second half. Randell Daigle answered with his signature 23-foot triple from the top of the key, regaining a one-point lead for the Cajuns, 51-50. USA responded with another run, reeling off eight straight points for a 58-51 lead. The Cajuns would pull to within four, 61-57, following a Gradnigo runner in the lane. However, a crucial turnover by Corey Bloom with less than 60 seconds remaining in the game allowed the Jaguars to clinch the win at the free throw line.
