Sunday Nidri - Sivota Sivota on Lefkas is a traditional village in the southeast of the island, approximately 33 kilometers from Lefkada town. It is located in a closed bay surrounded by lots of gree- nery. The bay is closed so that the sea looks more like a lake surrounded by beautifully overgrown hills and mountains. Sivota is a cozy village with nice terraces and restaurants at the water. Monday Sivota - Fiskardo Fiskardo on the island of Kefalonia, is a place that you will certainly keep up with the co- lorfulness of the houses. Es handelt sich um die größte Insel des Ionischen Meeres, am Ausgang zum Golf von Patras gelegen, zwischen den Inseln Zakynthos und Lefkada. Die Gesamtfläche der bei Griechenland Reisen noch nicht von den Massen eroberte Insel beträgt 904 qkm, mit einer Küstenlänge von circa 250 km. Die Insel hat eine wunderbare natürliche Schönheit und eine vielfältige geologische Struktur mit zahllosen kleinen Buchten und einer großartigen Vegetation; außerdem imponiert das Gebirgsmassiv Ainos (Nationalpark seit 1962, mit reicher Flora und Fauna) schon von weitem. Kefalonia wurde während der byzantinischen Zeit in die Provinz Achaia eingegliedert und gehörte administrativ zum östlichen Illyrikon. Im Laufe der Zeit wurde die Insel von Nomaden, Franken, Venezianern und Türken erobert. Die Vereinigung mit Griechenland und den restlichen Eptanisa- Inseln erfolge am 21. Mai 1864. Der Widerstand der Bewohner gegen die Italiener und die Deutschen während des zweiten Weltkrieges war sehr groß. Eine Geschichte aus der Zeit des Widerstands wird im Spielfilm „Corellis Mandoline“ wieder erzählt, der auf der Insel an Originalschauplätzen gedreht wurde. © Priv.-Doz. Dimitrios Zachos griechenlandabc.de Argostoli ist seit 1757 die Inselhauptstadt. Es geht um eine moderne Stadt, die Elemente der traditionellen Architektur erhalten hat. Ähnlich wie Amphitheater erbaut und mit Blick auf die Koutavou Lagune, die eine Zwischenstation für die Zugvögel ist. Die Stadt rühmt sich vieler neoklassizistischen Bauten, große Plätze, Kirchen und ein nennenswertes kulturelles Leben, nicht zuletzt mit ihrem bedeutenden Philharmonischen Orchester, den Chören und Theatergruppen.

Il Mediterraneo è culla di civiltà e dopo averci generato ha continuato a nutrirci di cultura per millenni. Il Mare Magnum è anche leggenda e la leggenda fa sognare più della storia, poiché è misteriosa e lascia spazio alla fantasia. La storia e le leggende del Mediterraneo raggiungono la loro massima espressione nell'Odissea: il viaggio di Ulisse, durato dieci anni e raccontato da Omero. Ulisse, figlio di un'isola, è nato col mare negli occhi. Nell'era moderna forse Ulisse non è più un mito, ma per noi kayaker mediterranei lo è ancora; egli rivive in ogni nostra pagaiata, poiché "Ulisse" significa navigare, conoscere il mare, la natura e la sua gente. "Alle radici d'Ulisse", è un viaggio alla scoperta del mare che ha visto nascere l'eroe omerico. Ulisse nel suo lungo peregrinare per il Mediterraneo, conobbe luoghi incantevoli, ma mai cancellò dalla mente la sua isola. Numerosi archeologi e studiosi credono che Ithaca sia la patria di Ulisse; ma alcuni ritengono possa invece essere la vicinissima Kefalonia oppure Lefkada (quest'ultima già meta di un mio viaggio effettuato nel 1993). La scorsa estate ho così pensato di concludere il trittico delle ipotetiche patrie dell'eroe omerico, visitando Kefalonia ed Ithaca, che riservano ancora un mare da godere e spiagge poco frequentate nonostante l'alta stagione estiva.

License: CC BY-SA 3.0. If we drew a line straight east from the "toe" of Italy's "boot" to the largest, westernmost island in the south Ionian Sea, we would ﬁnd mountainous Cephalonia. Variously spelled (Kefalonia, Cephalonia and Cephallonia), it is an island paradise. Beyond its stunning beauty, Cephalonia's history is rich with folk tales and tragedy: Fiskardo, for example, is the only town that was not ruined by the 1953 earthquake. Ithaca, the kingdom ruled by Odysseus (also called Ulysses) and made famous by Homer in The Odyssey, is just to the east. Legend has it that Cephalonia was once ruled by Ithaca. Tombs, artifacts and jewelry from the Mycenaean civilization have been found on the island. (Follow the link to view a necklace from the 12th century B.C.) Although some historians believe Cephalonia's civilization reached its cultural peak during those distant times (nearly 3,500 years ago), today some of the best wine in Greece is made from Cephalonian grapes.
