Deaths & Marriages St. Columban 1837 ST. COLUMBAN’S RC CHURCH, DEUX MONTAGNES, QUEBEC INDEX May 16, 2003 This list is to be used as a guideline only. Due to bad handwriting, the poor condition of the original record, our unfamiliarity with French names and the loss of clarity in the photocopying process there is no guarantee that the stated records are accurate. However, we have tried to be as accurate as possible. Sometimes we could confirm the spelling by the signatures, but even they were sometimes inconsistent. Sometimes the name was so hard to read we put what we could see or guess at. Note #1 “*” - links directly or indirectly to the Blanchfield family line Note #2 “?” - unable to read or a portion of the record was missing from the photocopy Note #3 “!” - Some names even within one family have been spelled in various formats over the years. Many names have had the “O” on and off in the early records. Walsh is sometimes spelled Welsh since it was the southern Irish pronunciation. The past was not a literate past nor were the priests always familiar with names that were common only in certain parts of Ireland. We changed the name from what was stated in the records (indicated by “!”) or what it looked like in the records to be more consistent, e.g, one priest would state the name as Ann in the baptism record and another would state it as Anne in the marriage record or Annie in the death record. Some “!” items were additions especially where more common names were used instead of the proper name. The common name stated in the record will be in brackets, e.g., Ann! (Annie). It was also used when the name changed between records, e.g., Esther! (Edith) - Esther is the most common usage and Edith was actually written in that particular record. Note #4 “+” means an error by the priest, e.g., burial date was before the date of death. Note #5 - “M” below a baptism isn ’t the marriage record, but a side note with the baptism stating who the child later married Note #6 - If you can confirm any mistakes or can identify the parents or spouse of those records where it was not stated (especially in the death records), we would appreciate knowing them so our records can be updated. We can be e-mailed at [email protected] or contacted below. Jim & Jane Blanchfield Box 119 Embrun ON K0A1W0 phone # 1-613-443-5420 The records are laid out in the following manner. First column is the year the record was written Second column is the date of the baptism, burial or marriage Third column is the number associated with the B-Baptism, F or S-Funeral or M-Marriage, e.g., B4 is the fourth baptism of the year. Sometimes the priest made an error and used the same # twice or missed a #. Fourth column is the child or person who was baptised, buried or married. Fifth column is the date of the birth or death. Sixth column is the parents or spouse of the individual involved & other information 1837 Jan 6 B1 Joseph Chartier Jan 5 Dominique & Louise Huot 1837 Feb 6 B2 Mary Garvey Oct 8/36 James & Bridgett Brady 1837 Feb 7 M1 Thomas Marshall Robert & Mary Muharsen Anastasia Dylan Michael & Mary Phelan 1837 Feb 7 M2 Thomas O’Neil Timothy & Anne Welsh Catherine O’Neil Mathew & Mary McManus 1837 Feb 7 B3 Bridget Stapleton Feb 6 Ramshina & Mary Ryan 1837 Feb 12 *B4 William Dunn Feb 8 John & Catherine Kinsella 1837 Feb 12 *B5 Bridget Wells Feb 10 Charles & Margaret Farrell! 1837 Feb 14 *B6 Helen Brophy Feb 14 Thomas & Mary Tracey! 1837 Feb 14 S1 Baby McKasvell Feb 13 Patrick & Catherine Burke 3 weeks 1837 Feb 15 B7 Lunar Labelle Feb 14 Andre & Emelie Barrett 1837 Feb 16 B8 Catherine Navill Feb 15 William & Mary Dane 1837 Feb 24 *B9 Rose Kennedy Feb 23 John & Mary Murphy 1837 Feb 25 B10 Sophie Boilevue Feb 25 Francois & Victoire Gagne 1837 Feb 26 B11 Helene Shay Feb 17 James & Elizabeth Henry(?) 1837 Mar 2 B12 Catherine Shelly Feb 26 Richard & Elizabeth Kenny 1837 Mar 12 B13 Catherine Mason Mar 11 Pierre & Sophie Cox 1837 Mar 11 B14 Helene McKinnon Mar 8 Thomas & Catherine Kelly 1837 Mar 12 *S2 Helen Brophy Feb 27 Thomas & Mary Tracey 13 days 1837 Mar 12 S3 Anne Gibbing Mar 4 sp Patrick Shay 31 yr 1837 Mar 12 B15 Ann Agnew Mar 11 Arthur & Eleonora McNally 1837 Mar 15 B16 Henriette Valiquette Mar 14 Emelien & Ellen Lalond 1837 Mar 15 B17 Sophia Hantet Mar 14 Jean Baptiste & Julie Dunn 1837 Mar 20 B18 Sheara Fortin Mar 20 Sand & Charlotte Dubois 1837 Mar 25 B19 William Madding Mar 23 William & Mary Carroll 1837 Apr 7 B19 Emond Murphy Apr 6 Allan & Bridget Kinsella 1837 Apr 10 B20 John Kelly Apr 9 Kevin & Catherine Meagher 1837 Apr 30 B21 Judea Kelly Apr 29 James & Mary Lahy 1837 May 14 B22 Terese Pilon May 9 Joseph & Elizabeth Belaine 1837 Jun 22 *B23 John Barry Jun 21 James & Dolly McParland! 1837 Jun 29 *B24 Mary Nancy O’Dwyer Jun 28 Edward & Judith Burke 1837 Jun 29 B25 Ann Moloy Jun 19 James & n/s 1837 Jul 2 B26 Duncan McDonald Apr 28 Donald & Catherine Doyle 1837 Jul 9 *B27 John Madden Jul 8 Hugh & Bridget O’Meara 1837 July 21 B28 Michael Horan Jul 19 William & Mary Murphy 1837 Sep 17 *S4 Rose Kennedy Sep 10 John & Mary Murphy 1837 Sep 18 *M3 Patrick Phelan sp Margaret Lawlor Julia Kavanagh Michel & Mary Karny(?) 1837 Sep 17 *B29 Ann Blanchfield Sep 17 James & Mary Brennan 1837 Sep 28 B30 William Slattery Sep 27 William & Catherine Cox 1837 n/s S5 Daniel Tracey n/s n/s 1837 Oct 2 B31 Robert Dempsy Oct 1 Michel & Jane Cofy 1837 Oct 2 B32 Michel Shane Oct 1 Michel & Mary n/s 1837 Oct 29 B33 Mary White Oct 24 Michel & Catherine Marshall 1837 Nov 4 M4 Patrick Shay sp Ann Higgins Eleanora Murphy John & Bridget Horan 1837 Nov 12 B34 Mary Burke Nov 10 Michel & Bridget Murphy 1837 Nov 13 M5 Edward White Denis & Margaret Sullivan Mary Quinn William & n/s 1837 Nov 27 *B36 John Hart Nov 6 Hugh & Cecily Barrett 1837 Nov 28 B37 Helen O’Leary Nov 27 Denis & Mary Monaghan 1837 Dec 3 *S6 John Hart Nov 29 Hugh & Cecily Barrett 1837 Dec 3 S7 Helene Madding Dec 2 James & Mary Keyes 1837 Dec 5 B38 Gregoire Page Dec 3 Gordon & Genevieve Cloutier 1837 Dec 5 B38 Esther Page Dec 3 Gordon & Genevieve Cloutier 1837 Dec 9 B39 Mary O’Leary Dec 4 Daniel & Catherine Slack 1837 Dec 11 B40 Thomas Kehoe Dec 8 James & Bridget Madden 1837 Dec 24 B41 Mary Marguenlo Gravelle Dec 21 Francois & Marguenlo Deschatelets 1837 Dec 29 B42 Mathew O’Neil Dec 28 Mathew & Catherine O’Neil 1838 Jan 19 B1 Mary O’Leary Jan 18 Cornelius & Mary White 1838 Feb 4 *B2 Patrick Dunn Feb 3 John & Catherine Kinsella! 1838 Feb 4 *B3 Denis Howard Feb 3 Jeremiah & Mary Keefe 1838 Feb 18 B4 Georges McGarr Feb 16 Mathew & Catherine Williams 1838 Mar 3 B5 Margaret Fahy Mar 3 Michel & Catherine Tinlin 1838 Mar 4 *B6 Richard Ryan Mar 4 John & Joanna Burke 1838 Mar 30 *S1 Daniel Tracey Mar 28 sp Frances Manning 47 years 1838 Mar 18 B7 Edward Ryan Mar 17 Michel & Margaret Ryan 1838 Mar 26 S2 Catherine Buckly Mar 24 sp Michel n/s 45 years 1838 Mar 29 S3 Robert Welsh Mar 25 Georges & Mary Winfield 1838 Mar 30 B8 Mary Aline Chasson Mar 29 Louis & Jacyhte Desjardins 1838 Apr 13 B9 Patrick Gavan Apr 12 Malachy & Judea Cocklin 1838 Apr 13 *B10 Richard Welsh Apr 12 John & Helen Blanchfield 1838 Apr 13 S4 Edward Ryan Apr 12 Michel & Mary Kalfield 1838 Apr 14 S5 James Shaughnessy!
