Due to bad handwriting, the poor condition of the original record, our unfamiliarity with French names and the loss of clarity in the photocopying process there is no guarantee that the stated records are accurate. However, we have tried to be as accurate as possible. Sometimes we could confirm the spelling by the signatures, but even they were sometimes inconsistent. Sometimes the name was so hard to read we put what we could see or guess at. Note #1 “*” - links directly or indirectly to the Blanchfield family line Note #2 “?” - unable to read or a portion of the record was missing from the photocopy Note #3 “!” - Some names even within one family have been spelled in various formats over the years. Many names have had the “O” on and off in the early records. Walsh is sometimes spelled Welsh since it was the southern Irish pronunciation. The past was not a literate past nor were the priests always familiar with names that were common only in certain parts of Ireland. We changed the name from what was stated in the records (indicated by “!”) or what it looked like in the records to be more consistent, e.g, one priest would state the name as Ann in the baptism record and another would state it as Anne in the marriage record or Annie in the death record. Some “!” items were additions especially where more common names were used instead of the proper name. The common name stated in the record will be in brackets, e.g., Ann! (Annie). It was also used when the name changed between records, e.g., Esther! (Edith) - Esther is the most common usage and Edith was actually written in that particular record. Note #4 “+” means an error by the priest, e.g., burial date was before the date of death. Note #5 - “M” below a baptism isn ’t the marriage record, but a side note with the baptism stating who the child later married Note #6 - If you can confirm any mistakes or can identify the parents or spouse of those records where it was not stated (especially in the death records), we would appreciate knowing them so our records can be updated. First column is the year the record was written Second column is the date of the baptism, burial or marriage Third column is the number associated with the B-Baptism, F or S-Funeral or M-Marriage, e.g., B4 is the fourth baptism of the year. Sometimes the priest made an error and used the same # twice or missed a #. Fourth column is the child or person who was baptised, buried or married. Fifth column is the date of the birth or death.
