Lycoming County was formed from Northumberland County on April 13, 1795. At the time it was formed, the county was much larger than it is today. We’ve got those places for you tucked just beyond the City of Williamsport where you can hop on a bike, cast a fly rod or take a hike up a mountainside to see what a spectacular sunset is all about. Historically speaking, you can learn about the Victorians and how the lumber barons of the late 1800s left behind architecture that Victorian Homes Magazine called “some of the best depictions of Victorian architecture in Pennsylvania.” That’s right; Millionaires’ Row offers the opportunity to step back in time to see how life was lived over a century ago. And if that’s not enough, you can also travel east of Williamsport to Muncy to tour its historic district and see a rich collection of Federal-style homes. Lycoming County is also becoming a cultural hub for the arts, both visual and performing along with the skilled craft trades. Williamsport is in its second decade of First Fridays. Every First Friday, local and regional artists and skilled crafters partner with local establishments in Williamsport to showcase their creations. The performing arts have notable venues available to them at both the Community Arts Center and the Community Theatre League. The Community Arts Center is a 2200 seat theatre that provides the opportunity for national tours to take center stage. Likewise, the Community Theatre League provides local performers with the opportunity to showcase their talents to the local and regional audience. You can do things such as geocaching in the nearby mountains and trails, biking on the Pine Creek Rail Trail or riding a replica of a historic trolley through Williamsport. From history and heritage to theatre and the arts, the friendly staff at the Lycoming County Visitors Center can provide you with brochures and information that will help you plan your days in Williamsport and Lycoming County. We have just about everything to meet your varied interests. Spend some time in Williamsport’s Millionaires’ Row to see some of the best Victorian architecture the state has to offer. The historic district also boasts three museums: Thomas T. Taber Museum of the Lycoming County Historical Society, the Peter Herdic Transportation Museum and the Rowley House Museum. All three offer some insight into the fascinating history of Lycoming County. Catch a ride on the Hiawatha Paddlewheel Riverboat for a cruise along the Susquehanna River. The Hiawatha offers public cruises, dinner and concert cruises and family night activities. The Hiawatha is a definite must-do when visiting. If theatre and the arts are more your interests, we have you covered there, too. The Community Arts Center (CAC) is bound to have a show for you and the whole family. The CAC is also home to the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra. The Community Theatre League offers visitors the chance to see outstanding productions starring local talent. The Pajama Factory is a great place to meet some friends and check out the art scene. Our year-round calendar of events is sure to have something you will enjoy. The summer brings the Billtown Blues Festival, the Lycoming County Fair, the Grand Slam Parade, the Little League World Series and Crosscutters baseball. Fall is sure to appeal with the Apple Butter Festival, the Rotary Festival and the Great Pumpkin Express. We will warm you in the winter with Victorian Christmas, the Polar Express Train Excursions and the Tour of Lights. Springtime is blooming with activities such as the Ways Garden Art Show, the new exhibits at Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland and the start of another season of the Hiawatha.
