The proposed Jharkhand Urban Water Supply Improvement Project (JUWSIP) would support urban service improvement strategies and policy initiatives of the Government of Jharkhand (GOJ) to contribute to improved urban living under the Jharkhand Vision and Action Plan 2021. The project will complement ongoing efforts of the GOJ for water supply infrastructure and service improvement and institutional reforms under various national flagship programs. JUWSIP will finance water supply infrastructure investments in four prioritized urban local bodies (ULBs). The towns selected include the state’s capital city Ranchi, and three towns located in economically and socially backward areas of Jhumri Telaiya, Hussainabad and Medininagar. Output 1: Water supply infrastructure in four Project towns improved. The Project will finance water supply infrastructure investments in four Project towns. The infrastructure investments involve construction and 5 years of performance-based O&M of piped water supply system in Project towns comprising of: (i) four water treatment plants with combined capacity of 275 million liters per day (MLD) meeting Indian water quality standards (IS:10500),1 and (ii) 940 kilometers (km) of climate-resilient water distribution network connected to about 115,000 households to ensure 24/7 water supply with non-revenue water reduced from current level of 45% to 20%. The water supply will have universal coverage including below poverty line, scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and households with disabled persons in the Project areas. The Project will provide vocational training for employable job skills in construction and O&M of water supply assets to at least 100 community members (50 women). Output 2: Institutional capacity for sustainable urban service delivery and urban governance improved. The physical investments will be complemented with targeted institutional and financial reforms and capacity building to create an institutional framework for the ULBs in Jharkhand to replicate and follow. These include: (i) sustainable water sector asset management strategy including user charges policy for O&M cost recovery prepared and implemented in at least two Project towns; (ii) urban reforms policy on strengthening own-source revenues of ULBs prepared with three key actions implemented in two Project towns; (iii) information technology enabled systems for water service delivery and administration adopted in Ranchi through use of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system for water supply operations, and mapping of assets, properties, and revenue database on geographic information system (GIS); (iv) training of relevant staff on, (a) design and implementation of urban services, including response to climate risks; (b) institutional development, urban governance, revenue generation, and financial planning, and operational dimensions; and (c) inclusion of gender equality and inclusive social features in urban services;2 and (v) improved awareness on, (a) behavior change activities focusing on water conservation, health, sanitation, and hygiene; (b) spread of epidemics or pandemics such as coronavirus disease; and (c) pilot vocational training for prospective job opportunities in construction and O&M. It is essential for the people of Sidhi and Madhya Pradesh because of the rich regular asset. The water quality index (WQI) tool is used to determine the quality of river Son by selecting four sampling stations. Maximum WQI value gained during the post-monsoon season in all of the stations followed by monsoon and pre-monsoon. Sampling stations upstream of the river experience deteriorating WQI due to the presence of the hydroelectric dam, changing landuse practices, increasing settlements and deforestation in the catchment and river banks. WQI showed good water quality, which can be used for drinking, irrigation and other purposes. The assessment found that pH, DO, and BOD contributes a huge part in affecting the WQI of the stream. Our study found that the condition of water quality necessities to accept suitable organization procedures and assurance attempts. It is inferred that WQI was demonstrated as an instrument or device in differentiating the water quality of different sources. It gives the public a general considered potential water-related issues in a particular area.

    Chirand Chalcolithic Culture Dr. Dilip Kumar Assistant Professor (Guest) Dept. of Ancient Indian History & Archaeology, Patna University, Patna Paper – CC-XI, Sem. – III With the end of the Neolithic Age, several cultures started using metal, mostly copper and low grade bronze. The culture based on the use of copper and stone was termed as Chalcolithic meaning stone-copper Phase. In India, it spanned around 2000 BC to 700 BC. This culture was mainly seen in Pre-Harappan phase, but at many places it extended to Post-Harappan phase too. The people were mostly rural and lived near hills and rivers. The Chalcolithic culture corresponds to the farming communities, namely Kayatha, Ahar or Banas, Malwa, and Jorwe. The term Chalcolithic is a combination of two words- Chalco+Lithic was derived from the Greek words "khalkos" + "líthos" which means "copper" and "stone" or Copper Age. It is also known as the Eneolithic (from Latin aeneus "of copper") is an archaeological period that is usually considered to be part of the broader Neolithic (although it was originally defined as a transition between the Neolithic and the Bronze Age). Chirand is an archaeological site in the Saran district of Bihar, situated on the northern bank of the Ganga River.     Kanhar Barrage Project, Jharkhand: Kanhar barrage project envisages construction of a barrage on river Kanhar near village Khuri under Ranka Block of Garhwa district in Jharkhand, around 12 km downstream of proposed dam site at Baradih. River Kanhar is one of the major right bank tributary of river Sone. The total catchment area up to its confluence with river Sone is 5903 km2, and total length is 218 km. It originates from the northern slopes of Vindhya Ranges at Gidha‐Dhoda on the Khudia plateau in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh at an altitude of EL. 990m. It initially flows north forming the boundary with Garhwa district in Palamu division of Jharkhand and Surguja district of Chhattisgarh. Subsequently, it runs parallel to river Sone in Garhwa and turns north‐west and flowing through Sonbhadra district of Uttar Pradesh. It confluences with river Sone near village Kota in Dudhi Tehsil. The catchment area upto proposed barrage at village Khuri is 3375 sq‐km. The project envisages irrigating the area of Garhwa district and some villages of Palamu district in chainpur block only. It is to be noted that Garhwa is a draught prone zone and deprived of assured irrigation in the area. The existing reservoirs in the district are mostly water deficit being fed by limited catchment. The Kanhar Barrage Project, Jharkhand was considered by the Advisory Committee of MoWR, RD&GR on Irrigation, Multipurpose and Flood Control Projects in its 135th Meeting held at New Delhi on 12th March, 2018.
