The scheme enables community consultation to take place and emphasises the links between parish council and the community. The consultation process identifies what the residents want—this can be from small improvements to large scale projects! At this stage it can include some items which are perhaps more of a “wish list”. How- ever from this consultation process more work is still needed on the information that is gathered so that a realistic and feasible action plan (The Parish Plan) can emerge identifying possible part- ners (e.g. councils, primary care trusts, environmental groups), actions and funders who may be able to help in achieving the aims contained within the plan. -

Cornwall Residency January 2016 Overview After an extensive Residency during Spring 2015, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra was delighted to return to Cornwall for a smaller- scale series of concerts, workshops and events in January 2016. The residency visited over 20 locations with an exciting programme full of creativity, discovery and learning that spanned eight days, delivered by 10 professional musicians. Working closely with Cornwall Music Education Hub the orchestra sought to engage new schools, try out new activities in response to local need and build on existing relationships before the full orchestra returns for a large-scale programme of events 2017. Events and Activities The programme saw BSO Bash (percussion) and a BSO String Quartet tour primary and secondary schools including Newlyn Primary School, St Mary’s C of E Primary School and Pendeen School, Penzance, Bishop Cornish Primary School, Saltash, Dunloe Primary School, Liskeard and Budehaven Community School, Bude. BSO Associates – musicians in the community, offered training for teachers and music support in primary and secondary schools including Charlestown Primary School, Carylon Bay and St Neot Community Primary School, Liskeard. 340 students from Secondary Schools across the county attended a GCSE curriculum concert at Hall for Cornwall, presented by BSO Associate Patrick Bailey, enabling them to explore their exam set works performed live. Early years centres in Budehaven, Tintagel, Camelford and Bodmin saw 1- 4 year olds take part in fun-filled sessions with BSO Associate – Hugh Nankivell, where they enjoyed creative music-making, exploring sounds and instruments as well as singing together. Primary schools; Fourlanesend School, Torpoint, Burraton Community Primary School, Saltash, Trenode CE VA School, Looe and Menheniot Primary School, Liskeard all adopted a musician for a day. -

DR. BORLASE'S ACCOUNT OF LUDGVAN By P. A. S. POOL, M.A. (Gwas Galva) R. WILLIAM BORLASE at one time intended to write a D parochial history of Cornwall, and for that purpose collected a large MS. volume of Parochial Memoranda, which is now pre• served at the British Museum (Egerton MSS. 2657). Although of great interest and importance, this consists merely of disjointed notes and is in no sense a finished product. But among Borlase's MSS. at the Penzance Library is a systematic and detailed account, compiled in 1770, of the parish of Ludgvan, of which he was Rector from 1722 until his death in 1772. This has never been published, and the present article gives a summary of its contents, with extracts. The account starts with a discussion of the derivation of the parish name, Borlase doubting the common supposition " that a native saint by his holiness and miracles distinguished it from other districts by his own celebrated name," and concluding that " the existence of such a person as St. Ludgvan . may well be accounted groundless." His own view was that the parish was called after the Manor of Ludgvan, which in turn derived its name from the Lyd or Lid, the name given in Harrison's Description of Britain (1577) to the stream running through the parish. It is noteworthy that the older Ludgvan people still, at the present day, pronounce the name " Lidjan." Borlase next gives the descent of the manor, the Domesday LUDUAM, through the families of Ferrers, Champernowne, Brook, Blount and Paulet. -

THE CORNWALL COUNCIL (SAINTS TRAILS – PERRANPORTH TO NEWQUAY) COMPULSORY PURCHASE ORDER 2021 The Town and Country Planning Act 1990 Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 and the Acquisition of Land Act 1981 The Cornwall Council (in this order called ‘the acquiring authority’) makes the following order — 1 Subject to the provisions of this order, the acquiring authority is under section 226(1)(a) of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 and section 13 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1976 hereby authorised to purchase compulsorily the land and the new rights over land described in paragraph 2 for the purpose of facilitating the development and improvement of the land for the provision of a new multi user trail between Perranporth and Newquay which will contribute to achieving the promotion or improvement of the economic social and environmental wellbeing of the area. 2 (1) The land authorised to be purchased compulsorily under this order is the land described in the Schedule and delineated and shown coloured pink on maps prepared in duplicate, sealed with the common seal of the acquiring authority and marked: (i) “Map 01 referred to in the Cornwall Council (Saints Trails – Perranporth to Newquay) Compulsory Purchase Order 2021”.
