Weekly Newsletter

16th October 2015

Dear Parents,

We are so excited about next week’s Aspirations Week………. Next week, we have invited a number of people from our local comminity into school to talk about the skills that they need to complete the jobs, careers and volunatry occupations in which they are involved. From farming to F1 Motorboat racing, surgery to stained glass making and architecture to app programming, we are giving our children the opportunity to have a ‘window on the world’ outside of school. Following on from the success of last year’s Aspirations Week, we are focusing on building skills in the short term (I would like to improve my handwriting/use of place value/ability to complete a 360 degree spin on my scooter) to longer term skills. By speaking to these people, we want to raise our children’s understanding of the vast array of opportunties that are available, right here in .

I am looking forward to letting you know how we get on in next week’s newsletter.

Nao Robot Thank you to Andy and Mark from NCI Technologies, who came to an assembly on Wednesday to demonstrate how a Nao Robot (aka Toby!) could help enhace our children’s understanding of computer programming and coding; key skills for the digital world in which they will work in the future. If, like many of us, you are more ‘digital tourist’, than ‘digital native’, we are hoping to offer some free Keeping up with the Kids – ICT sessions after half term. If you would be interested in this please pop in and let me know.

KS1 Gymnastics Competition A HUGE well done to Toby and Ivy-Mae (Red Class) and Toby St and Emily (Green Class) who took part in the KS1 Gymnastics Festival at Mullion this week; they did absolutely brilliantly and represented the school beautifully – well done children.

Tag Rugby League Our tag rugby team were out in force again this week, James, Ben, Philip, Bonnie, Nathan, Ruan, Finley and Jago all put in a sterling effort and played some great rugby – well done children.

Blue and Green Class Trips Both Green and Blue Classes are off to Falmouth University on Thursday. Green class will be leaving at 9.15am and returning before lunch.

Blue Class will be leaving at 11.45 and will need to TAKE LUNCH WITH THEM. They will return before the end of the school day.

During these visits, Green Class will take a tour of the School of Mines Museum and be given an insight into the work of CSM. Blue Class will be working with Falmouth University to understand how animations and apps are created; they will have a go at computer programming for themselves.

Have a great weekend,
