This is an opportunity to showcase our collective achievements. As a premier engineering institute, we quest to lead in educational innovation and develop pedagogies that can transform our engineering programmes. We aspire to foster a thriving culture of engineering excellence that can equip our students with technical knowledge and skill. Excellence is achieved through creativity and collaboration and we SLIETIANs, have a strong belief. “PROUD TO BE PART OF TEAM SLIET” “TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE”, are unwavering in our pursuit of all encompassing brilliance in academics, research and innovation. Our commitment to inclusivity and outreach is our hallmark as the institute caters to highly diverse sections of students, even from rural backgrounds. Spread over a verdant campus of 451 acres, the institute proudly boasts of being the national nodal centre of National Doctoral Fellowship Programme of AICTE and the Mentor to NIT Uttrakhand under TEQIP III. The institute will unprecedentedly nurture nearby institutions of the region under Margadarshan Scheme of AICTE. SLIET is instrumental in execution of various flagship programmes of Government like Unnat Bharat Abhiyan, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Fit India Movement etc. As a citadel of learning, we are proud of the fact that the students pursuing studies here at undergraduate, graduate, post graduate and doctoral levels are trained well not only academically and technically but also holistically. We provide abundant leadership opportunities to our students through variety of student clubs, activities and sports. This herculean task could not be achieved without the commitment and enterprising skills of the faculty and staff and ceaseless encouragement by Board of Management and Ministry of Education (MoE). The present report is a testimony to the substantial progress and unprecedented growth that the institute has been making in all spheres of academic activities. It further wishes to draw a blueprint for future endeavors that the institute is hopeful to achieve. An Overview of SLIET Longowal Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering & Technology (SLIET), established by the Government of India, provides technical education in emerging areas of Engineering & Technology. It caters to the requirement of technical manpower at various levels by adopting the concept of modular system in imparting technical education with emphasis on practical training in industry. Set up in 1989 under Rajiv Gandhi - Longowal accord with an aim to fulfil the cherished dreams of late Sant Harchand Singh Longowal, the Institute has carved for itself a niche place among the professional Institutes and Universities of the country. The Institute is fully funded by Ministry of Education, Government of India. The educational programmes of this institute are non-conventional, innovative, practical oriented and contain all aspects of new education policy (1986) of Govt. of India. The Institute offers programmes at Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Post- graduate (M.Tech. MBA and M.Sc.) and Ph.D. in Science, Humanities, Management, Engineering and Technology. M.Tech. Programmes were started in the Institute in 2002. Spread in and sprawling over more than four hundred acres of land, the institute is wonderfully blessed with natural beauty, greenery, serene and pollution free atmosphere. It expresses through refreshing shades the environment and conditions truly designed to give the human being true satiety and comfort. Large plantations carried out at the institute make the institute an everlasting beauty. Live atmosphere is conducive to work environment, brings a human face and gives softening touch to the surroundings. Campus has water bodies and is a paradise for bird watchers. Institute plays a host to a number of migratory birds giving the glimpse of some of the rarest species in the world. Splendor of the natural environment and beauty of the birds are the perfect setting for better learning in natural environment. It provides an atmosphere wherein a person becomes free from worries, converges his/her desires and start thinking and analyzing for making him/her physically fit, ethically strong and academically sturdy. Enough avenues for channelizing youth energy in extracurricular activities such as: NSS, NCC, Industrial visits, Educational tours, reading rooms, departmental societies, SPICMACAY chapter, Technical & Cultural festivals, night playing facilities, eating points during the extra hours. It has self contained campus facilities (Hostel, accommodation, academics, sports, shopping etc.) at par with IITs, NITs, IIMs and other CFTIs. The Institute has acquired the status of Deemed - to - be - University in the year 2007 (Notification No.F.9-42/2001-U.3). In its Silver Jubilee year, Institute has taken a giant leap by introducing a new academic structure. Annual Report 2019-20 2 SLIET Longowal 3. VISION & MISSION VISION SLIET shall strive to act as an international podium for the development and transfer of technical competence in academics through formal and non formal education, entrepreneurship and research to meet the changing need of society. MISSION 1. Non formal, flexible, modular, multipoint entry programmes in engineering and technology and in the areas like rural development, educational planning, information and management sciences. 2. Education and training in modern technology areas. 3. Promotion of self development among the students. 4. Extension services to industry working population, passed-out students, social organisations and institutions of research and higher learning. 5. Close interface with the industry to conduct research on the basis of manpower requirements leading integrated educational planning curriculum development and instructional material preparation in technology and inter-disciplinary areas. 6. INFRASTRUCTURE & FACILITIES Location:The Institute is situated at Longowal (about 8km from Badbar on Chandigarh-Bathinda Highway) in the District of Sangrur, Punjab. It is well connected by road with Sangrur (18 km), Ludhiana (100 km), Chandigarh (150 km) and Delhi (360 km). The nearby railway stations are Sangrur (18 km), Dhuri (30 km) & Sunam (16 km) on the Northern Railway. The nearby airports are at Chandigarh and Ludhiana. Like every previous year, the university was full of new activities, initiatives, innovations and services. Number of new students and faculty joined us to realize our objectives towards fulfilling mission and vision of the university. The university was placed 26th in National Institutional Ranking Framework, 801-1000 bracket in Times Higher Education World University Ranking, and 210th in QS Asia University Ranking. It has received many research grants in the academic year. Two more undergraduate programs were accredited by ABET this year; which conforms to our inspiration of providing education of international standard and quality.     Sundaram Karivardhan Sundaram Karivardhan or short Kari (June 20, 1954 Coimbatore, India–August 24, 1995 in the same town) was a legendary figure of Indian motorsports. Apart from being a successful formula car racer, was also a designer and constructor of several formula cars, his most famous design being the Formula Maruti open wheeled race car. His low cost cars helped other racers, notably Narain Karthikeyan, Karun Chandhok, and Armaan Ebrahim, to their entry into motorsports. A wealthy industrialist, he was later killed in an air crash, aged 41. Early days Sundaram Karivardhan was born on 20 June 1954 in Coimbatore to noted Indian freedom fighter G.K.Sundaram from the Lakshmi Millstextile family. He did his schooling in Coimbatore and after graduating in mechanical engineering from PSG College of Technology, he completed his master of science at the UCLA, Los Angeles. Motor racing Quiet and shy in nature from a very young age, he showed a keen interest in bikes and cars. In the United Kingdom he attended the Jim Russell racing school. Later, when he returned to India in the mid-70's, he started participating in the Chennai's Sholavaram races and Calcutta's Barrackpore track. His first race was 1973 Sholavaram Grand Prix meet, later he appeared every year in newly constructed formula cars from his own garage. He raced until 1995, the year of his demise. Cars he raced ranged from Premier Padmini, Datsun 510, Sipani Dolphin, Formula Atlantic, several cars of his own design and in the final years Formula 3 cars. His last race was in a Formula Ford, in McDowell ]'s body shell in Chennai's MMSC track.

The Inaugural Session of the conference began with the invocation followed by the Welcome Address by the Convener Dr. M. Murugan, Professor & Vice-Principal. Then, Dr. B. Chidambararajan, Principal delivered the Presidential Address. Mr. Arunachalam Jayaraman of M/S. Virtusa. Chennai was the Chief Guest of the function and presented the Keynote Address and stressed on Human relevant change in Intelligent Automation. The Conference Proceeding was released by Dr. T. P. Ganesan, Director, SRM VEC and Pro-VC (P&D), SRMIST. Finally, the Vote of thanks was proposed by the Co-Convener Dr. R. Karthik, Associate Professor of EEE. It was followed by a Plenary Talk by Mr. T. Senthil Kumar, FLSmidth Pvt Ltd., Chennai, who spoke on Industrial Automation and Digitalization. Out of over 100 papers received, after the careful scrutiny, the expert panel selected only about 40 papers for presentation in the Conference; which were presented in Four Parallel Tracks [ECE, CSE/IT, MECH/CIVIL and EEE/EIE].
