Lago Girl Scouts End Two-Week Camp

The only thing about their two- week camping adventure at Bala- shi that Lago Girl Scouts didn’t like was the fact that it had to come to an end. Two weeks of open-air living, cooking out, doing household and cleaning chores, and enjoying them- selves greatly added a new meaning to scouting for the more than two dozen girls and assistants. In charge of the camp was Miss

Ruth Ward, a professional Girl Scout worker, attached to the New York headquarters. It was Miss Ward's second trip to Aruba, having held a similar camp here in 1951. Arrange- ments for the camp were made by Mrs. R. Kux, who also followed up on all the myriad details so things would go smoothly. Helping out as assistants to Miss Ward were Sid- ney DeWeese, Sue Eaton, Karen Mathiasen, Carol Bond and Martha Sue Lloyd. The camp, a permanent establish- ment used by all island scouts, is located in a cool, shady palm grove in DeVeer's plantation at Balashi.
