Whole Report In Annual report by Metro Center about Violaons against journalists in Iraqi Kurdistan Region in 2011 Metro center to defend journalists declares that violaons against journalists and media channels in Kurdistan region in 2011 is seen as a dangerous indicator. It is the highest record for violaons during the last two decades of Kurdish administraon. Metro center recorded 359 cases of violaons in di erent forms. Four cases were injured by gun $re, 8 cases of se'ng $re to media o(ces and channels, 85 cases of physical abuse, 57 cases of verbal threats, 52 cases of arrest and detenon, 81 cases prevented from doing their dues, 9 breaking media e,uipments, 9 cases of assaults on houses of journalists and media channels. In 9 cases, journalists were shot be gun $re, 41 cases their e,uipments were sei.ed, 2 media channels were targeted by gun $re, one journalist targeted by e/plosive bomb and $nally a car of a journalist was burnt down. Metro 0enter through its internaonal made relentless e orts into contacng internaonal organi.aons all over the world and held several meengs regarding unstable condions media freedom faces in Kurdistan region. Metro 0enter from the early beginning of its foundaon have registered more than 200 cases of abuses against journalists starng from Kurdistan protests in Feb. 17 th , 2011 including wounding by gun $re and ny glass balls, beaten by police sck, injured by stoning of demonstrators, burning channels, arrest, physical a1ack, murder threats, verbal abuse, humiliaon, hindering from doing their dues, breaking cameras, con$scaon of journalists2 e,uipments. At the end of 2011, a4er se'ng massage centers on $re, si/ media o(ces of Kurdistan Islamic 5nion party 6KI57 8akgrtw9 were burnt and seven journalists of KI5 were arrested and a4er couple of days were released. PAGE 1 Metro Center statement in this regard, not only condemned these acts but also asked for legal invesgaons with the perpetrators. Metro said amid polical tensions, every me security forces arrest journalists and take over their e,uipments and break it without any legal e/cuse. :By this act, they vicmi.e media and e/pression freedom for the interest of pares involved in the polical crisis,: Metro center added in the statement. In February 2011, Metro 0enter recorded tens of violaons against journalists by security forces deployed in the cies of Sulaimaniyah and Erbil. They were banning journalists from even taking photos. They stopped reporters from media coverage in Sulaimaniyah for several days. Tens of reporters in Erbil were banned from media coverage and faced threats, physical abuse and arrest. Metro 0enter announces that most of violaons by security forces were done in formal and non formal uniforms yet up to the moment no one was interrogated though media law arcles clearly state :Any one humiliates or abuses a journalist using his authories, faces same penalty as assault on civil servant performing hiss dues.: Among these case of violaons in February and April 2011, four journalists were injured by gun $re. Marks are obvious on their bodies. Hemin Abdulaf, correspondent of Dastur website, and Ari Mohammed Aouri, correspondent of Metrography Agency, were injured by the gun $re erupted in front of Sulaimaniyah head,uarters of Kurdistan Democrac party KDP known as Branch Four. Cn April 19 th , when security forces a1acked demonstrators to put an end of Sara protests in Sulaimaniyah downtown, journalists 0hinoor Mohammed Amin, correspondent of Hawla paper, and Hawry Khalil were injured. Cn March 25 th , gunmen a1acked Halgwrd Ahmed, editor7in7chief of Dinar Maga.ine, in the town of Eaniyah, Aorth of Sulaimaniyah, and a4er they shot him, he was injured. PAGE 1 Erupted violence was growing larger exceeding shoong journalists. For the $rst me in Kurdish ruling history, a private TF channel was burnt. Aalia Eadio and Television, AET which is a private news satellite TF channel based in Sulaimaniyah, was burnt on Feb. 20 th , immediately a4er few hours of pilot broadcast covering Sulaimaniyah protests. TF o(cials said the damage caused was worth of 10 million American Dollars. :That was a dark day for Kurdish journalism history,: Metro 0enter described the event. :About 50 gunmen, raided AET, shot broadcast e,uipments and then set $re to the whole 37storey building,: said Twana Csman, director general of AET. A night guard was injured, he added. Metro 0enter called on Kurdistan Eegional Government KEG to reveal $ndings by the truth7$nding commi1ee of AET case for the public. Aowadays, a4er ten months of burning AET, the commi1ee KEG appointed commi1ee for truth7 $nding, is not ready yet to unveil the contents of its report. TF o(cials considered that security procedure as an :embargo: of their channel. Later, the channel was targeted by gun $re. C(cials of KAA TF said broadcast of their TF faced interference for couple of days. 8akgrtw Eadio staon was also shot. At 2 am, early in the morning of March Ith , several gunmen raided Dang 6Foice9 Eadio staon in Kalar town, south of Sulaimaniyah. They destroyed most of the e,uipments and took over part of it. Dang Eadio is a private radio staon in the area founded early 2010. The radio staon was raided one again on 15.03.2011. Eeporters faced di erent forms and pa1erns of violaons: on 01.04.2011 Alan Jalal, cameraman of Gali Kurdistan TF, a news satellite channel of Patrioc union of Kurdistan P5K based in Sulaimaniyah, was beaten by a piece of concrete block whilce covering clashes erupted between demonstrators and security forces. His le4 leg was wounded. Dana Ali, correspondent of KAA was a1acked while covering protests in Said Sadi, town, south east of Sulaimaniyah, on 15.04.2011. Medical report showed that one of his ribs was broken. 0hief cameraman of AET, Dana Bakir, was beaten and arrested while $lming Sulaimaniyah protests on 19.04.2011. A man in black uniform beat Eebin Hardi, director of Awene 0ompany, by pistol on the head close to his o(ce in Salim Street and injures him severely late in the evening on 29.08.2011. Hardi2s head was sutured by 32 stches for seven injuries in head, 19cm long as medical report shows. Awene 0ompany is the publisher of Awene 6The Mirror9 independent weekly in Sulaiamniya in Sorani Kurdish. Metro center met Hardi at the hospital. A4er medicaon, Hardi told Metro :this a1ack is part of a1acks perpetrated against journalists and the intellectuals. If the perpetrator of this act is found, I am de$nitely sure that many of other PAGE 1 perpetrators of many other abuses against journalist and educated people will be found as well." Sulaimaniyah Asayish, security forces, said on a statement on 06.09.2011 about a1ack on Hardi that :a4er launching invesgaons, Sulaimaniyah Asayish forces managed to $nd some clues.: The statement added that a4er collecng informaon and follow up, a suspect involved in the assault was arrested on 05.09. 2011. :He admi1ed commi'ng the crime and was sent to police.: Metro 0enter welcomed $ndings of primary invesgaons by Sulaimaniyah Asayish for $nding a suspect. Le also called on judicial authories for fair and independent procedure against suspect number one of Hardi case. Human Eights Latch HEW about Ira, on 23.05.2011 called :Ira,i Kurdistan: Growing e orts to Silence media: revealed that :KEG o(cials and security forces are carrying out a growing assault on the freedom of journalists to work in Ira,i Kurdistan.: HEW also called on KEG o(cials to :stop repressing journalists through libel suits, beangs, detenons, and death threats.: In 2011, each of Amnesty Internaonal, 0ommi1ee to Protect Journalists 0PJ and Eeporters without Borders in several occasions published its reports about current situaon of media, human rights and freedom of e/pression in Kurdistan region. They all condemned the way KEG deals with reporters and freedom of e/pression. Assaults on Kurdistan region journalists recorded by Metro 0enter: 1. Cn January 8th , while reporng on a football match between Dihok and Erbil clubs, Baravan Ahmed Bapir, reporter of Livin independent maga.ine based in Sulaimaniya, was a1acked in front of Duhok Stadium by interior forces which sei.ed his camera for two hours. :I took photo of group of police whom arrested a fan and beaten him,: Bapir told Metro. :Five policemen were beang me by sck and took over my camera for two hours.: PAGE 1 2.

With the new crisis caused by ISIS in Mosul and Ambar provinces in Iraq, SC has a humanitarian imperative to intensify its response within the country, requiring assistance to internally displaced people (IDP). SC has also partnered with national based organizations to reach off limit places due to security challenges. People Aid Organization (PAO) has conducted the assessment on behalf of Save the Children from June 17th to June 23rd 2014. PAO organization has been working on responding to the crisis in Syria since September 2013 through “protection and humanitarian aid program”, in which PAO in partnership with international non-governmental organizations and UN agencies which have worked on child protection and humanitarian assistants in both Iraq and Syria. SCI and PAO have worked jointly during Syria crisis to response to the needs of children in the north of Iraq and north east Syria. Additionally, with the start of recent crisis in Nenawa and other provinces in Iraq, both SCI and PAO have worked closely to identify and respond to the needs of children.

Towards the end of 2003 and 2004, Iraq became the battle ground and regional arm conflict to settle scores with different factions. Insurgents bombed the Holy Shrines in Sammarra in March 2006. This attack ignited sectarian and ethnic arms conflict throughout Iraq on a scale never seen before. Thousands of Shiites had fled Sunni areas and vice versa. Christians also fled from Sunni areas to Kurdistan. These recent events, in addition to decades of severe oppression and sanctions fractured the integrity of the civil order and society in Iraq. Recently in Kurdistan, the safe haven for many Iraqis became involved in armed conflict too. Both the Iranians and Turkish military were bombarding the border villages with artillery shells for days and weeks. Thousands of villagers left their homes and migrated inland for fear of their lives thus compounding the refugee problems in Kurdistan. The Oxfam Organization reported that there are eight million Iraqis in need of urgent help. This number constitutes one third of the population in Iraq.

    IOM EMERGENCY NEEDS ASSESSMENTS POST FEBRUARY 2006 DISPLACEMENT IN IRAQ 1 DECEMBER 2007 BI-WEEKLY REPORT The bombing of the Al-Askari shrine in Samarra on 22 February 2006 and the subsequent spike in violence and displacement brought to light the need to assess the conditions of these newly- displaced populations. Therefore, the Ministry of Displacement and Migration (MoDM) and several organizations (such as IOM) have been registering and/or monitoring Iraqis who have been displaced since February 2006. The estimated number of displaced since 22 February 2006 is almost 1,200,000 individuals 1. This figure, combined with the 1.2 million individuals 2 who were internally displaced before 22 February, results in an estimated 2.4 million IDPs in Iraq to date. BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY ON IRAQI DISPLACEMENT: Many families continue to return home, both from neighbouring countries, especially Syria, and from within Iraq. Reasons for returning are in part due to improved security conditions, especially in Baghdad, the place of origin for 70% of IDPs assessed by IOM. Iraqis are also returning due to deteriorating conditions in their place of displacement – lack of income, illegal status, rising cost of living, tensions with host communities, and lack of access to health care and education.3 The Ministry of Displacement and Migration (MoDM) reports that around 3,500 IDP returnee families have completed registration for the one million Iraqi dinar returnee stipend, and another 6,000 families are undergoing the registration process. 4 Many more returned last week from Damascus in bus transportation provided by the Government of Iraq.

Baghdad Governorate . On 16th February, IOM distributed 520 rations of relief items for protection from weather conditions for IDP families in Hurriyah, Adhamiya, Rusafa, Karkh, Hay Al-Jami’a Complex and Amiriyah. In addition, 120 NFI rations were distributed to IDP families from Mosul and Qa'em who were hosted at Al-Jihad and Al-Resala neighborhoods in Baghdad. During February, UIMS’s mobile medical team provided health services to 115 beneficiaries. Ninawa Governorate .
