THE FIRST FORTY YEARS - The Model A Ford Club Of NSW Inc - A summary of what we did or what happened taken from the pages of the Club magazine. Decemberal 1970 / January 1971 - The Going Thing. Meeting Reports: The inaugural meeting of the Club was held at the High Club, 81 York St Sydney on Friday 6th November 1970. Those present were Ann Buggie, Geoff Buggie, Susan Alexander, Brian Brown, Jim Wilson, Allan Crouch, Angus McKenzie, D McKenzie, W. Bownsd (sic), Trevor Davis, John McMurray, G Addison, Russell Barrett, J Wong, R Cole, Phillip Haynes, Ken Quarmby, Bruce Lawson, Mal Bradley, John Pryde, Keith Cook, John Corby (CVVTMC), Jim Alexander & Chris McSorley. (NB. The minutes omitted recording the attendance of J Allingham). John Corboy, as a repre- sentative of the CVV TMC, was invited as the returning officer for committee elections: Election of 1971 Committee: Geoff Buggie Club President & Acting editor , Mal Bradley Vice Presi- dent , Keith Cook Secretary , Ann Buggie Treasurer , Chris McSorley Committee member , Social & Events Committee Brian Brown with one extra to be elected later, Vehicle Registration & Competition Committee Jim Alexander, Jim Wilson and Mal Bradley. Annual subscription was set at $7.00. A pro- posed constitution as circulated was moved for adoption and carried. Family membership was discussed. An approach is to be made to the CVV TMC for membership and provision of club plates. Proposed that a club emblem is to be designed and some thought of a club shirt was suggested. Club Events: A slide show was held at Ann and Geoff Buggie’s home attended by 20 members. Alan Crouch attended a swap meeting at Cooma. Sunday 6th December 1970. There was a club outing to Wattamolla to which Mal Bradley brought his Town sedan and Ron Cox his roadster. Articles: 1. Titled ' President's Letter ' by Geoff Buggie. 2. Titled ‘ A trip to the USA' written by Mal Bradley. For Sale: 1928 sports coupe complete except for a rear mudguard for $300. Also new valence panels at $30 a pair. Plus a number of other items available. Contact Alan Crouch. 1930 Roadster & Sports Coupe body & parts - $120 for the lot. John Dwyer 8 Malvina St Ryde. February/March 1971 – The Going Thing. Meeting Reports: 12/2/1970 & 12/3/1971. The meetings were held at the Fivedock Community Centre Library Meeting Room No1. New member Bob Sullings of Quirindi was welcomed. Income $137.00, expenses $45.64 and balance $91.36. Some discussion on whether the Club should include other Ford made cars but it was decided to wait for CVVTMC advice. Also there was discussion on listing the Club's phone number in Pink Pages. Contact with the Ford Motor Company was made to see if contact with Henry Ford 2 could be obtained. We were requested however to provide more information about our Club. Pam Moss and Susan Alexander join the Social & Events Committee. Only three cars now registered for road use - Ron Cox, Mal Bradley & Bruce Lawson. Alan Crouch offered to arrange a swap meet with assistance by Ron Cox. Club Events. 7th March 1971. BBQ outing to Lane Cove Park. 4th April 1971. Restoration run to visit cars being restored. Articles. 1. Titled ' What's In A Name. ' by Geoff Buggie. This discussed factors which may lead to a decision of the Club name and the Ford makes it should include ie one make of Ford or a wider range. 2. Titled ' Steering Adjustment of the Model A Ford. ' by Ron Cox. 3. Titled ' Dating of the Model A Ford ' . Canadian Model A engine numbers and production numbers of the A and AA. 4. Titled ' The gentle art of drink making '. April / May 1971 - The Going Thing. Meeting Report: 12th April 1971. The general meeting was held at the Fivedock Library meeting room. Six new members also welcomed but no names were recorded. Bank balance is $178.18. The Club is now called the Model A Ford Club of NSW and has now been accepted as a member of the CVVTMC. Mal Bradley and Geoff Buggie were appointed as delegates to the CVVTMC. An application for Club plates is to be made to the Motor Transport Dept by the CVVTMC. The council is writing to the Customs Dept with an application to free veteran and vintage parts from custom duty. Leo Lennon added a number of designs for a Club badge to those already submitted. Trevor Davis is to draft a questionnaire for members for information on purchase of parts and restoration services. Meeting Report: 14th May 1971. The general meeting was held at the Fivedock Library meeting room. Mr & Mrs Ian Irwin from the MARC (Aust) of Canberra were welcomed to the meeting. Alternative delegates to the CVVTMC elected were Jim Alexander and Keith Cook. Admission of the Club to the CVVTMC was voted on and carried. Only two applications were received for the planned swap meet. Phil Dalton submitted a design for the Club Badge. A written request previously sent by Ian Irwin for a list to be provided to MARC (AUST) of our Club's members and vehicles be provided was approved. Treasurer's report of a balance of $218.12 was received and accepted. Latest issue of MARC (Aust) and past copies are available for viewing. Ian Irwin advised of a Ford Country Rally to be held from 30th January to 1st February 1972 in Canberra. Club Events. 23rd May 1971. Swap Meet. 29th August - 4th September 1971. Invitation for National Coffs Harbour Tour. Club Event Reports. 4th April 1971. Restoration Run. John Everett reported the run was a success. 23rd May 1971. The past - Swap Meet. by the President Geoff Buggie. Articles: Titled ' The Vintage Motoring Enthusiast - What is he? ' by Geoff Buggie. Titled ' Acquiring a Model A. ' by Rick Holcroft. Titled ' Amendment To Constitution ' re the word 'original ' as there was a previous Ford Model A. June/July 1971 - The Going Thing Meeting Report 11th June 1971: The June general meeting was held at Fivedock. New members Peter Davis, Peter Schultz and Fred Ellem, the latter living at Maclean were welcomed. Congratulations to Pat and Trevor Davis and also Maureen and Jim Allingham on the birth of their daughters. Trevor Davis is compiling a list of restoration services and requests input from members. John Everett advised that he has standard connecting rods for sale. The design of a Club badge by Jim Alexander was voted by mem- bers for adoption. The chosen colours were dark blue on white. The badge size will be a 4 inch ellipse. Concerning printing of the Club newsletter Ron Cox advised that rota printing could be done if typing could be done by mem- bers. Trevor Davis volunteered to be editor which was accepted enthusiastically by members. Ron Cox is looking at rota printing of the magazine but provided members type the plates. A design for the Club badge by Jim Alexander was accepted which will be dark blue on white. Keith Cook moved the Club subscribe to MAFCA and MARC magazines. Meeting Report: 9th July 1971. The meeting was held at the Fivedock Library meeting room. Fred Sharp and Peter Davis were welcomed. Application forms for Ford Country Rally Canberra received. Club badge under way with some minor change to the selected design. Lawn Union and Rock Insurance Co Ltd under consideration for third party insurance at $6.15 and comprehensive insurance at $30 for $2000 coverage. Mal Bradley proposes that the Club become a member chapter of the MAFCA to be called the Down-under Chapter which was carried. The treasurer reported a balance of $228.05. Jim Alexander reported a poor attendance at the picnic at Prospect Reservoir. A report on this outing was given in the magazine. News also that to Ngaire and Jon Lewis was born a son. Club Events. 27th June 1971. Visit Prospect Reservoir. 8th August 1971. Tour Bobbin Head. 12th September 1971. Visit Camden Air Museum and Rotalactor. 19th September 1971. CVVTMC Warwick Farm Rally. 24th October 1971. Restoration Run. 29th November 1971. Club outing pending investigation. 18th December 1971. Xmas Function yet to be planned. 30th January 1972- 1st February 1972. Ford Country Rally at Canberra. Event Report: 27th June 1971. Visit Prospect Reservoir. Jim Alexander reported that it was a great venue but poorly attended. Articles: 1. Titled ' President's Letter - Achieving Tasks Or Making Excuses. ' by Geoff Buggie. 2. Titled ' Contributed and Technical Notes ' by John Everett. This lists Dunlop tyres available for vet- eran and vintage vehicles. August/September 1971 - The Going Thing. Meeting Report: 13th August 1971. The meeting was held at Fivedock Library meeting room. Presi- dent Geoff Buggie announced his transfer to Cowra but would continue until the end of the year by travelling up for each meeting. Members who joined in July were Gerry de Vries, Robert Fowler, Geoff Addison and John Walton. Visitors to the meeting were John Fogwell, Gary Sylvaney and Ken Hodson. Prices were received on embroidered club badges and Decals. The Custom and Tariff Board advised the CVVTMC that the tariff on imported motor parts and accessories will remain. New members joining in the last 3 months prior to the AGM will have their subscription carried forward to the next financial year. Meeting Report: 10th September 1971. The meeting was held at the Fivedock Library meeting room. Rick Holcroft chaired the meeting as the President was unavailable. Visitors Jim Dahl and A Switzer were welcomed. A membership card has been received from the Model A Restorers Club of America. Keith Cook informed members that he had managed to secure green jackets from Rothmans which were no longer needed.
