Fans of Orb were surely pleased to see his pilot Joel Rosario find the winner=s circle aboard Pegram, Watson and Weitman=s Fiftyshadesofhay (Pulpit) in Friday=s GII Black-Eyed Susan S., but they will probably be hoping for a slightly less eventful trip in today=s Preakness. Fiftyshadesofhay was adding blinkers for trainer Bob Baffert, but she showed a new dimension here, settling kindly in sixth of seven while an eager Maracuya (Big Brown) put up honest splits. The NEXT PHASE FOR ORB 2-1 shot began to inch closer as Stuart Janney III and Phipps Stable=s Orb (Malibu the field bunched entering the far Moon) faces eight foes as he seeks to keep the racing turn, but three-deep longshot world=s Triple Crown hopes alive in today=s 138th Marathon Lady (Graeme Hall) running of the GI Preakness S. looked like she would be tough Fiftyshadesofhay (outside) Little has gone wrong for the to collar as she swept up to Horsephotos homebred in 2013, with four challenge for command. • The Tyro a Review of the Arts of Painting Sculptore and Design
THE TYRO A REVIEW OF THE ARTS OF PAINTING SCULPTORE AND DESIGN. EDITED BY WYNDHAM LEWIS. TO BE PRODUCED AT INTERVALS OF TWO OR THREE MONTHS. Publishers : THE EGOIST PRESS, 2, ROBERT STREET, ADELPH1. PUBLISHED AT 1s. 6d, Subscription for 4 numbers, 6s. 6d, with postage. Printed by Bradley & Son, Ltd., Little Crown Yard, Mill Lane, Reading. NOTE ON TYROS. We present to you in this number the pictures of several very powerful Tyros.* These immense novices brandish their appetites in their faces, lay bare their teeth in a valedictory, inviting, or merely substantial laugh. A. laugh, like a sneeze, exposes the nature of the individual with an unexpectedness that is perhaps a little unreal. This sunny commotion in the face, at the gate of the organism, brings to the surface all the burrowing and interior broods which the individual may harbour. Understanding this so well, people hatch all their villainies in this seductive glow. Some of these Tyros are trying to furnish you with a moment of almost Mediterranean sultriness, in order, in this region of engaging warmth, to obtain some advantage over you. But most of them are, by the skill of the artist, seen basking themselves in the sunshine of their own abominable nature. These partly religious explosions of laughing Elementals are at once satires, pictures, and stories The action of a Tyro is necessarily very restricted; about that of a puppet worked with deft fingers, with a screaming voice underneath. There is none" of the pathos of Pagliacci in the story of the Tyro. It is the child in him that has risen in his laugh, and you get a perspective of his history.

Day, enshrined in the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in 2005, won a record 2,482 races at Churchill Downs, including 156 stakes, from 1980-2005. None was more memorable than his triumph aboard W.C. Partee’s Lil E. Tee in the 1992 Kentucky Derby. He rode in a record 21 consecutive renewals of the Kentucky Derby, a streak that ended when hip surgery forced him to miss the 2005 “Run for the Roses.” Day’s Triple Crown résumé also included five wins in the Preakness Stakes – one short of Eddie Arcaro’s record – and three victories in the Belmont Stakes. His 8,803 career wins rank fourth all-time and his mounts that earned $297,914,839 rank second. During his career Day lead the nation in wins six times (1982-84, ’86, and ’90-91). His most prolific single day came on Sept. 13, 1989, when Day set a North American record by winning eight races from nine mounts at Arlington Park.
