The Corvette Grand Sport is the official pace car for the 2017 and will lead drivers to the green flag on May 28 for the 101st running of the legendary race.

“Chevrolet is proud to once again pace the Indianapolis 500,” said Steve Majoros, marketing director for Cars and Crosso- vers. “The Corvette Grand Sport’s performance capability and motorsports heritage make it the perfect choice to pace the Greatest Spectacle in Racing.”

RECENT ACTIVITIES

April 24, April 2017 CF Martin Guitar factory Weyerbacher & Brewery

MARTIN GUITAR FACTORY TOUR It was a cloudy then rainy day but several of us braved the weather and brought out the vettes. After meeting at McDonalds in Plumsteadville we headed for Martin Guitar. On our way we ran into some roads “under repair” which caused some delay. Fortunately, our side of the road was smooth most of the way. You just never know when they will do those road repairs. It was pretty interesting at our Wawa pit stop. A very large and high piece of farm equipment was in the parking lot when we arrived. This equipment could have easily run over any of our vettes and it almost did. Fortunately the driver saw the Griffins backing in their new red C-7….glad the driver saw you Glenn and Robin! Upon arriving at C.F. Martin & Co., Inc. we had a parking area reserved for us. It was a perfect opportunity for a photo shoot. As we entered the main lobby we were greeted with “Welcome Liberty Region Corvette Club” on the TV monitor. The tour itself was directly on the factory floor which allowed us to get a real up close view of the workers in ac- tion. Ralph and Page picked up a few woodworking tips. We were amazed by what craftsmanship goes into these guitars. In case you were wondering, the prices range from a few thousand dollars to over $150,000. After the tour each of us re- ceived a center hole for a guitar with the Martin logos and 2017 stamped on it. There was an on-site museum, gift shop and two guitar playing areas. Ralph and Glenn showed us their talent in the higher end picking area; Frank and his son Joe headed for the other picking area and the rest of us toured the museum. The museum has a significant collection of Martin Guitars including the private collection of Mr. Martin. As usual, we all were hungry and headed on a short drive to Diner 248. This place is a diner with a full service bar and nice selection of food and drinks. Carolina and Tom have been there before with Carolina’s family so we knew the place was good. After lunch we decided to head to Weyerbacher Brewery in nearby Easton. As we pulled in with the vettes, some staff members came out to talk and take photos. We were asked to show our vettes in June for a new beer that they are pro- ducing with a red corvette on it. We will let Ralph tell you about that …..if it all works out for LRCC to show our cars. Well another great LRCC activity is in the books. Until the next activity…………………

Sesame Place Parade 4/29/2017

Sesame Place May 29, 2017

Bringing out the kid in us all! Whew, what a morning! Oh yeah, you weren’t there.

Arriving at Sesame Place after a 4:00 AM thunderstorm we were all excited to drive the characters in the season’s opening to the public.

After a quick wipe down of the Vettes we all went to the staging area in the order we were assigned at rehearsal. This year’s parade was different then the other parades we had participated in past years at Sesame Place. Each Corvette drove one character through park. Between the cars were participants and other characters showcasing events that will take place throughout the season. Oops, getting ahead of myself.

We were lined up in the staging area waiting for all the characters and watching the sky for clearing and sunshine. We heard an excited “here they come,” not from any small child but from the kid in us. Then there was take my picture, oh there’s Elmo, look Big Bird is over there, let’s get a picture. Hey can you take a picture of me with my phone. Did you get all of them? I guess we were just excited to be doing this again.

Our lineup was Tom Conery & Elmo, Ron Buckley &Abby Cadaby, Peter Railey (Betsey’s son) & Telly Monster, Don Andrews & Rosita, Mike Garozzo & Zoe, Don Hindle & Super Grover, Dee Abney & Baby Bear, and Don Controy & Count von Count. Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, Cookie Monster and others walked the parade route through the park greeting the happy smiling face of children of all ages.

There was a marching school band, magicians, jugglers skaters, animal puppets adver- tising Jack Hanna event and much more.

Big smiles and fun all around. It’s going to be a great season for Sesame Place.

We Had Fun!!

Dee Seven Stars Original Taxes are Over Dinner

May 7, 2017

It has been a long time since the Original Stick-Shift Gourmet has written for the Vette Gazette. Well, I am back!

We were off to a rainy Sunday afternoon start and this did not deter our drivers from driving their Cor- vettes. Thank you guys! We headed to one of my favorite restaurants and I hope it is one of yours. The place is the historic Seven Stars Inn established in 1736 as a Publick House.

Some of our group met us there while others caravanned from Plymouth Meeting. As we arrived at the restaurant you always find us greeting each other with hugs, kisses, handshakes and ready to enjoy the outing. But while we are waiting for everyone to come in let’s order something from the bar before we go upstairs to our dining room. Our club’s libation the Liquid Cocaine recipe can be found with the bar- tender.

Some of the appetizers I noticed being ordered were Scallops Dijon, Snapper soup, New England Clam Chowder, Lump Crabmeat Stuffed Mushrooms which is one of my favorites. I heard great satisfaction from Ralph about the Veal Parmigiana, Filet Mignon was had by Ron, Veal A La Oscar melted in my mouth because the veal was so tender, the Shrimp Combination was very good according to Carol. A few ordered and enjoyed the Sautéed Lobster, Crab, Shrimp & Scallop in cheese wine sauce. Elena thoroughly enjoyed the King Crab legs. This restaurant is known for their large portions and good ser- vice. The specialty of the house is the humongous Prime Rib done to perfection which was ordered and definitely enjoyed by a few.

EVERYONE enjoyed their meal and some of us were able to take enjoyment home for another meal.

If you were unable to attend I hope you will be able to go with us the next time. Great food and drinks and even better company.

HUMOR

Three guys that all worked building high rise buildings sat down to lunch one day. The first one opens his lunch and says, "Tuna fish, tuna fish, I hate tuna fish. If I get tuna fish one more time I'm jumping."

The other two guys open their lunches and say the same thing.

The next day the first guy opens his lunch and says, "Ah, ham and cheese."

The next two open their lunches and say, "Tuna fish, tuna fish, I hate tuna fish. If I get tuna fish one more time I'm going to jump."

The third day the first two guys open their lunches and both got their favorite sandwiches. The third guy opens his lunch and says, "Tuna fish, tuna fish, I hate tuna fish. All right, that's it. I'm jumping." So he goes to the edge and jumps off.

The other two look on not believing what just happened. After a while the first guy says, "Gee, that's sad. He actually jumped."

The second guy says, "Yeah, the worst part is that he packed his own lunch." SAFETY Signs of Substance Abuse with Teenagers

How do I know if my teenager is abusing drugs or alcohol? It can be difficult to differentiate between substance abuse and the typical teenage mood swings. However, if the teen begins to exhibit several of the signs listed below, they may be struggling with a substance use disorder. When an adolescent is abusing drugs or alcohol, their parents and loved ones may notice a change in the adolescent’s behavior, grooming habits, work or school performance and health. Some common signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol use include:

Behavioral Changes

 A sudden change in personality  Inability to concentrate  New friends  Increased conflict and resistance in the family  Barring family members from their bedroom  Being secretive about who they are talking to on the phone or texting  Withdrawn or extreme sadness  Anger or irritability  Hidden stockpile of alcohol

Changes in Appearance

 A lack of interest in their appearance  Poor hygiene (e.g. bad breath)  Unusual markings on their arms or legs  Their clothes or breath reek of smoke  Smell of alcohol on their breath  Bloodshot eyes  Dark circles under their eyes

School or Work Performance

 Skipping school  Loss of interest in sports, hobbies or extracurricular activities  Drop in grades  Complaints from teachers, bosses or co-workers

Health Issues

 Frequent nose bleeds  Sudden weight loss or gain  Excessive sweating  Dilated pupils  Unexplained bruises or sores  Extreme exhaustion

Missing prescription medications, inexplicable need for cash and the disappearance of household items are also signs of substance abuse.

If your teenager is displaying any of the behaviors above, they may be abusing drugs or alcohol. Get help, go on line and contact a local treatment center.

STAY SAFE & PROTECT YOUR FAMILY

Arrive with a full tank of gas. ry month. Bring a “two-way” radio tuned to channel 6 and tone 14. Listen at the drivers meeting and be ready to leave on time. Advise event leader if you are meeting the group somewhere else. Event leader should lead group. Event leader should have directions and maybe a map to give everyone. Event leader should also go over any safety precautions. The planned route should allow for rest stops. Event leader should supply all participants with everyone’s cell number. Prior to leaving the leader should break the group into smaller groups which will be easier for travel and move- ment control. Each group should have a leader, a tail car at end, and maybe a middle car. The leader, middle car, and tail car should have two passengers, so that it is easier to work the “two-way radio” and/or cell phone. The middle car and tail car should keep the leader informed as to what is going on behind him, i.e. if someone is caught at a light, etc. It is important to be aware of what is going on in front of you, not just the car that’s directly in front of you. The group will usually travel in the center or right lane with driving lights on for safety and identification. When traveling in a congested area, you will probably become separated. The leader will stay in contact with the tail car and decide whether to pull over or slow down until everyone catches up. If you have car trouble pull over and the tail car will pull over with you and pass on this information to the leader. They can decide if the rest of the group will pull over or continue on. The car in front of the tail car should become the new tail car. The leader will be supplied with a small box which will contain: A Road side maintenance assistance kit (flashlight, flares, etc.), two Medical kits and spare portable radios.
