RSU is coming off a 79-69 victory over St. Gregory’s Wednesday evening in Shawnee. The Stars fell to Oklahoma Baptist in Date Time Opponent Location/Results Shawnee Thursday evening 77-72. He is on pace to set the single season free throw shooting record knocking down 82 percent from the charity stripe this season. Jan. 19 5 pm St. Gregory’s W 93-58 KENDRELL CLOSES OUT CAREER: Kendrell Thompson’s career as a Hillcat didn’t have quite the storybook ending that he and RSU fans had hoped for due to injury but the complete book on his career is impressive. In just 59 games played he ranks *Thu. Jan. 24 8 pm Wayland Baptist W 69-61 among the top 10 in fi ve statistical categories in the program’s career record book. He is tied for fourth in fi eld throws made (176), *Sat. Jan. 26 3 pm Lubbock Christian L 65-69 fi fth in three point fi eld goals made (99), seventh in points (779), eighth in fi eld goals made (252) and tied for ninth in assists (110). Playing in 126 games, most of any player in program history, Alex is tied for second in the school career assists list with 163 and ranks third in career steals *Sat. RSU head coaches are available through- Enrollment: 4,632 out the week, mainly in the morning. Before you know it, the NCAA Regionals will be upon us. This absolutely is one of the busiest but most intriguing times of the college sports year with as many as 10-12 sports occurring simultaneously from baseball to men’s volleyball to golf to indoor track to gosh- knows-what. It’s also refreshing to welcome the initial 2004 NCAA Division II NCBWA poll to this month’s newsletter and to see some of the baseball teams from cooler weather regions migrating south for the annual ritual of spring break baseball. The incessant pings of the aluminum bats remind us that the sights and smells of springtime and conference baseball cannot be far off; enjoy and sneak out of the arenas when time permits for some great diamond activity. PLAINVIEW, Texas—Southwestern Christian dropped a three-set match (15-25, 14-25, 12-25) to Wayland Baptist on Friday night in Plainview. Southwestern Christian (3-13, 2-7) had a tall task of taking on the current second place Sooner Athletic Conference team. Wayland Baptist (15- 6, 8-1) came into the contest with only one conference loss and the Eagles did all they could to hang with the strong attack of the Pioneers. The Eagles hung tight with Wayland early on, finding themselves down just 14-16 midway through the first set, but a 9-1 run from the Pioneers would close out that first set. SCU would start the second set strong, leading 7-2. Wayland Baptist would quickly get back on track, though, as they rattled off 10 consecutive points. The Eagles would still find themselves down just 14-18, but again a run of 7 straight points allowed the Pioneers to finish off set two. Holding the momentum, Wayland Baptist cruised through the third set as they controlled it from the opening serve to win 25-12. Wayland's offensive attack was strong all game. They hit .333%, while SCU was held below 0 at -.020%. Faith DeSouza finished with 17 assists and 8 digs. Tienery Sawyers, Aubrie Sanders, Treasure Mozon, and Abagail Heimerman all collected 4 kills. Sanders' 2 blocks would also put her career total at 172. She is 6 off of 3rd place all-time at Southwestern Christian. The Eagles have just one game remaining on the season.

The preseason polls have been announced. The preseason All- America teams are out. A majority of the preseason watch lists have been distributed. Every team has high expectations and goals for the season. Now it is time to play ball. Obviously, the calendar has changed since the last NCBWA newsletter, but now it is finally time to wish followers of college baseball a Happy New Year! It seems a little soon to be writing that – at least from Columbus, Ohio – but this weekend opens the 2006 college baseball season. Granted, not many schools will be taking to the field, but there are a few; all before Ohio State, and many other schools around the country, begins practice. The Buckeyes take to the indoor practice turf of the Woody Hayes Athletics Center Monday. Kudos to the NCAA. The organization’s board of directors approved a uniform start date for college baseball beginning with the 2008 season. The legislation stipulates the season start the Friday that falls 13 weeks before the selection of the NCAA tournament field, which the last few years has been Memorial Day. That means this season would not begin until Friday, Feb. 24. Coincidentally, that is the same day Ohio State opens its season against Wake Forest in a tournament at the University of Florida. In 2008, opening day for all of college baseball will be Feb.

The Program -OUAZ Men’s Volleyball will help prepare young men to reach their maximum potential on the court as well as prepare them for life after volleyball. -On the court we are a high intensity, no nonsense, effort based program. We expect to win and to show up and earn the day everyday.
