No Air is a pop song written by James Fauntroy II, Stephen Russell, Eric Blu2th Griggs, Harvey Mason Jr. and Damon Thomas. The song was originally written for the male singer, but after Jordyn Sparks heard the song and expressed interest in the song, Mason agreed to give it to Sparks on the condition that they would make it a duet, and proposed to Chris Brown as a singing partner. After the chords of F♯-E-G♯m-B, the song is written in the key of F' Mixolydian. His signature time is a common time. Sparks and Brown's vocals range from F♯3 notes to F♯5 notes. Nick Levin of Digital Spy called the song a ballad about the power of the RCB and said that full use of her impressive set of pipes. Bill Lamb of About.com wrote: Since the beginning of Jordin's echo vocals, it sounds like No Air so easily and easily that he needs special effects and production tricks to hide the fact that there really aren't many songs here. BBC Music's Steve Perkins awarded the song five stars and said that by the time No Air gets to the final stretch, the title actually seems pretty prescient, since Jordyn and Chris Yedelling are off at the top of their voices to such an extent that you wonder how they hide their need to choke on big light buckets of precious oxygen every thirty seconds. Other nominations included Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals at the 51st Grammy Awards, a nomination for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration at the 40th NAACP Image Awards and a Best Collaboration nomination for the 2009 MTV Australia Awards. He also received two nominations for the 35th People's Choice Awards for Favorite Pop Song and Favorite United Forces, winning a second award. The music video for the song was shot by Chris Robinson and filmed in New York. Photos from the shooting were leaked to the Internet the next day. The video premiered on February 25, 2008 on Yahoo! Music; However, on February 20, 2008, it leaked to the Internet. It all starts with Sparks playing the piano in his house. Suddenly she stops playing and makes a phone call to her cell phone, which directs her to the answer machine. The camera cuts the phone, which she allegedly calls, which was left on the counter in the steam room. Sparks leaves a message asking Brown to call her when he can. Her profile silhouette is then seen on the left side of the grey background as the song begins to play. Sparks then appears in her window drawing the shape of a heart on a misty glass window as she begins to sing the song. Brown then appears on video wiping a misty mirror in his bathroom as he begins to sing his first verse. Brown's silhouetted profile is then seen entering on the right side of the gray background scene, and both of their silhouetted profiles collide with each other. The video then cuts to Brown, who is shown donning a jacket leaving the house as he walks around New York. Sparks then appears standing near the Brooklyn Bridge. She gets in her car and starts driving around the city. Meanwhile, Brown is still in the daytime, arriving at Sparks' house. In the climax sequence, Brown confronts Sparks with her piano and the two passionately sing the final chorus to each other. Brown then walks away, and the video ends with two silhouettes on a gray background, snatching away from each other. The video is also interspersed with scenes of Brown singing alone in a recording studio with drums, guitars and piano from which he plays and at the very end when the song above Sparks is seen sitting on the floor in his house and kneeling head down in sadness. At the 2008 BET Pre-Awards, No Air won the award for Best Video Heartbreak. He was also nominated for Best Female Video at the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards. Intimate Live Girls Benjamin Halligan Keywords: aura, intimacy, kissing, authenticity, liveness, social media, spectacle, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Terry Richardson, Peter Gabriel Abstract: The arena concert requires a particular type of liveness of performance in order to transcend impersonal mass entertainment. Liveness here looks to authenticity and happenstance, privileges personal communications and seeks to live in the moment, and in this way the live performance then meets and matches or even surpasses the virtual life of the artist or group. The concert must be both mass spectacle and an individual and singular experience for those witnessing and participating in it. Without these latter essential attributes, which can be read as the auratic and authentic replacing the virtual, the arena concert falls short of ontological expectations of live music. In recent years the mise-en-scène of the arena concert has become calibrated to female artists with, seemingly, a concomitant feminisation of the event. In this, the space is often given over to intimacy, empathy, and presented as an insight into the life, and even philosophy, of the performer.

Diggin’ You Like Those Ol’ Soul Records 181 Diggin’ You Like Those Ol’ Soul Records: Meshell Ndegeocello and the Expanding Definition of Funk in Postsoul America Tammy L. Kernodle Today’s absolutist varieties of Black Nationalism have run into trouble when faced with the need to make sense of the increasingly distinct forms of black culture produced from various diaspora populations. The unashamedly hybrid character of these black cultures continually confounds any simplistic (essentialist or antiessentialist) understanding of the relationship between racial identity and racial nonidentity, between folk cultural authenticity and pop cultural betrayal. Paul Gilroy1 Funk, from its beginnings as terminology used to describe a specific genre of black music, has been equated with the following things: blackness, mascu- linity, personal and collective freedom, and the groove. Even as the genre and terminology gave way to new forms of expression, the performance aesthetic developed by myriad bands throughout the 1960s and 1970s remained an im- portant part of post-1970s black popular culture. In the early 1990s, rhythm and blues (R&B) splintered into a new substyle that reached back to the live instru- mentation and infectious grooves of funk but also reflected a new racial and social consciousness that was rooted in the experiences of the postsoul genera- tion. One of the pivotal albums advancing this style was Meshell Ndegeocello’s Plantation Lullabies (1993). Ndegeocello’s sound was an amalgamation of 0026-3079/2013/5204-181$2.50/0 American Studies, 52:4 (2013): 181-204 181 182 Tammy L. Kernodle several things. • From the Outside, You Can't See Any Difference Between a Run-Flat Tire
FEATURE Few 10 Tech Drive wer blowouts Run-Flats Offer Convenience and Peace of Mind. If you had X-ray vision, you could see that the sidewall on a 3 Series run-flat is different from that of a conventional tire. Few things are more frightening to a driver than a blowout because several bad things start happening all at once. A trained, experienced driver may be able to bring his or her vehicle to a safe stop after a blowout. However, many drivers just hang on and hope for the best, or, worse, slam on the brakes. Even for an experienced driver, a blowout while driving on a highway with other vehicles nearby is scary. “Run-flat” tires, which still support the car and provide control even when air pressure is lost, greatly reduce the danger of a blowout. Although run-flats have been available for many years, interest in these tires has surged recently. BMW has offered run-flat tires as standard or optional equipment on selected models since the late 1990s. Equipped with run-flats, a BMW can be driven some distance even though the tire has no air in it. However, the maximum recommended speed for a run-flat without air is 50 mph. So, your customer can drive to your shop for tire replace - ment, just not at high speed. In addition to their other benefits, run-flats eliminate the hassle and potential risk of pulling onto the shoulder of a busy highway to replace a flat tire. These tires even offer a convenience benefit, freeing up trunk space because a spare tire and jack are not necessary with run-flats.

What contami- nants are most hazardous? How do I get rid of a particular smell? Should I use this air cleaner or that filter? Sadly, our friends and family generally lose patience when we helpfully suggest: “Well, it’s complicated. But just read Chapters 46, 60 and 62 in the ASHRAE Handbook—HVAC Applications, because there’s great information in there.” In general, we find that information seekers are frustrated by such helpful advice. Usually, the question is repeated (with some heat) in a form such as: “You’re the professional. Can’t you boil it down?
