The tender award notification of such project was received on 8 October 2019. ESTABLISHMENT OF PROJECT COMPANY On 19 December 2019, CRRC Construction Engineering, Suzhou CRRC Construction Engineering and Times Electric (all of which are subsidiaries of the Company) formed a Consortium with CRRC GROUP, Construction and Investment Company and City Investment Fund Management Company and entered into the Investment Agreement with Government Implementation Authorities of the PPP Project as well as the Shareholders’ Agreement with Government Funding Representatives, respectively. Pursuant to such agreements, the Consortium and Government Funding Representatives would establish the Project Company with joint capital contribution to invest in PPP Project. Upon establishment of the Project Company, CRRC Construction Engineering, Suzhou CRRC Construction Engineering, Times Electric, CRRC GROUP, Construction and Investment Company and City Investment Fund Management Company will hold 5.48%, 1%, 4%, 0.1%, 2.4% and 67.02%, respectively of the equity interests of the Project Company.

ABSTRACT This thesis examines Shanghai’s urbanisation by applying Henri Lefebvre’s theories of the production of space and everyday life. A review of Lefebvre’s theories indicates that each mode of production produces its own space. Capitalism is perpetuated by producing new space and commodifying everyday life. Applying Lefebvre’s regressive-progressive method as a methodological framework, this thesis periodises Shanghai’s history to the ‘semi-feudal, semi-colonial era’, ‘socialist reform era’ and ‘post-socialist reform era’. The Shanghai World Exposition 2010 was chosen as a case study to exemplify how urbanisation shaped urban experience. Empirical data was collected through semi-structured interviews. This thesis argues that Shanghai developed a ‘state-led/-participation mode of production’.

Over the past 70 years, the Chinese culture has forged ahead regardless of trials and hardships. In the course of its inheritance and development, the Chinese culture has stepped onto the world stage and found her way under spotlight. The SICA, established in the golden age of reform and opening-up, has been adhering to its mission of “strengthening mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between Shanghai and other countries or regions through international cultural exchanges in various areas, so as to promote the economic development, scientific progress and cultural prosperity of the city” for more than 30 years. It has been exploring new modes of international exchange and has been actively engaging in a variety of international culture exchanges on different levels in broad fields. On behalf of the entire staff of the SICA, I hereby would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the concern and support offered by various levels of government departments, Council members of the SICA, partner agencies and cultural institutions, people from all circles of life, and friends from both home and abroad. Claremont McKenna College Tapping the Potential of Sports: Incentives in China’s Reformation of the Sports Industry Submitted to Professor Minxin Pei by Yu Fu for Senior Thesis Spring 2017 April 24, 2017 2 Abstract Since the 2010s, China’s sports industry has undergone comprehensive reforms. This paper attempts to understand this change of direction from the central state’s perspective. By examining the dynamics of the basketball and soccer markets, it discovers that while the deregulation of basketball is a result of persistent bottom-up effort from the private sector, the recentralization of soccer is a state-led policy change. Notwithstanding the different nature and routes between these reforms, in both sectors, the state’s aim is to restore and strengthen its legitimacy within the society. Amidst China’s economic stagnation, the regime hopes to identify sectors that can drive sustainable growth, and to make adjustments to its bureaucracy as a way to respond to the society’s mounting demand for political modernization.

This paper examines the impact of the emergence of Yangshan on the spatial pattern of the Yangtze River Delta since the 1970s, with reference to existing port system spatial evolutionary halshs-00717879, version 1 - 13 Nov 2012 models. While this emergence confirms the trend of offshore hub development and regionalization processes observed in other regions, we also discuss noticeable deviations due to territorial and governance issues. Strong national policies favoring Shanghai's vicinity rather than Ningbo as well as the growth of Yangshan beyond sole transhipment functions all contribute to Shanghai's transformation into a global city. Introduction Throughout the literature on port cities, a majority of the research provides a separate discussion on either port or urban functions. Port and urban specialists often focus on what may appear as processes and actors of distinctly different nature. One example is the large body of research on so-called port systems where neighbouring port nodes go through successive development phases marked by varying traffic concentration levels.

With the rapid development of subway systems in Chinese urban areas, construction workers are being exposed to new risks which are poorly understood and managed. Subway construction projects are large scale and scattered over many construction sites, and involve numerous stakeholders and sophisticated technologies in challenging underground environments. Accident rates are high and have significant economic and social consequences for the firms and people involved. Addressing the gap in research about the safety risk in these projects, the purpose of this paper is to advance understanding of the factors influencing the safety of Chinese subway construction projects with the overall objective of reducing accident rates. Design/methodology/approach - A survey was conducted with 399 subway construction professionals across five stakeholder groups. Follow-up interviews were also conducted with five experienced experts in safety management on subway projects to validate the results.

												  Shanghai, China Overview IntroductionShanghai, China Overview Introduction The name Shanghai still conjures images of romance, mystery and adventure, but for decades it was an austere backwater. After the success of Mao Zedong's communist revolution in 1949, the authorities clamped down hard on Shanghai, castigating China's second city for its prewar status as a playground of gangsters and colonial adventurers. And so it was. In its heyday, the 1920s and '30s, cosmopolitan Shanghai was a dynamic melting pot for people, ideas and money from all over the planet. Business boomed, fortunes were made, and everything seemed possible. It was a time of breakneck industrial progress, swaggering confidence and smoky jazz venues. Thanks to economic reforms implemented in the 1980s by Deng Xiaoping, Shanghai's commercial potential has reemerged and is flourishing again. Stand today on the historic Bund and look across the Huangpu River. The soaring 1,614-ft/492-m Shanghai World Financial Center tower looms over the ambitious skyline of the Pudong financial district. Alongside it are other key landmarks: the glittering, 88- story Jinmao Building; the rocket-shaped Oriental Pearl TV Tower; and the Shanghai Stock Exchange. The 128-story Shanghai Tower is the tallest building in China (and, after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the second-tallest in the world). Glass-and-steel skyscrapers reach for the clouds, Mercedes sedans cruise the neon-lit streets, luxury- brand boutiques stock all the stylish trappings available in New York, and the restaurant, bar and clubbing scene pulsates with an energy all its own. Perhaps more than any other city in Asia, Shanghai has the confidence and sheer determination to forge a glittering future as one of the world's most important commercial centers.

All rights reserved. In his youth, the Chinese basketball player Yao Ming was once described as a "crane towering among a flock of chickens," Lee Chyen Yee wrote for Reuters (September 7, 2000). The only child of two retired professional basketball stars who played in the 1970s, Yao has towered over most of the adults in his life since elementary school. His adult height of seven feet five inches, coupled with his natural athleticism, has made him the best basketball player in his native China. Li Yaomin, the manager of Yao's Chinese team, the Shanghai Sharks, compared him to America's basketball icon: "America has Michael Jordan," he told Ching-Ching Ni for the Los Angeles Times (June 13, 2002), "and China has Yao Ming." In Yao's case, extraordinary height is matched with the grace and agility of a much smaller man. An Associated Press article, posted on ESPN.com (May 1, 2002), called Yao a "giant with an air of mystery to him, a player who's been raved about since the 2000 Olympics." Yao, who was eager to play in the United States, was the number-one pick in the 2002 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft; after complex negotiations with the Chinese government and the China Basketball Association (CBA), Yao was signed to the Houston Rockets in October 2002. Yao Ming was born on September 12, 1980 in Shanghai, China. His father, Zhiyuan, is six feet 10 inches and played center for a team in Shanghai, while his mother, Fang Fengdi, was the captain of the Chinese national women's basketball team and was considered by many to have been one of the greatest women's centers of all time.
