RANGERS from the “ a NOTE They Call It Paradise, and for Me It Does Feel Like a Paradise SCOTTISH BUILDING women SOCIETY SWPL1 WEDNESDAY 21ST APRIL 2021 CELTIC KICK-OFF 7:35PM RANGERS FROM THE “ A NOTE They call it Paradise, and for me it does feel like a paradise, MANAGER so I am looking forward to it. “ We always focus on trying to win the next game, and next up for us is Rangers, so we will set out at Celtic Park to win. RANGERS We will always try to get something out of the game, even though we know it PROFILED will be very, very difficult. Rangers arrive at Celtic Park in second place by goal difference having just been knocked off top spot by Glasgow City, but remain a threat having won all three matches since the restart. Despite winning 6–0 and 5–0 in their first two of 2021, It will be a special day for us at they could only put one past a well-organised Hibs side at the weekend, with Lizzie Arnott the difference Celtic Park and I hope we play well between the two at Auchenhowie. and make every Celtic fan proud. The only blemish on Malky Thomson’s side’s record so far this season is at the hands of the Celts, who came away 1–0 winners after a dramatic injury time penalty in the first meeting between the pair this season. And after that intense affair between the two, another exciting I’m looking forward to the girls experiencing that, Glasgow Derby is on the cards for this Wednesday. and personally for myself — I’ve never played a game there. They call it Paradise, and for me it does feel like a paradise, so I am looking forward to it. MANAGER: MALCOLM THOMSON Hopefully we see an outstanding game of football HOME GROUND: RANGERS TRAINING CENTRE between two top teams, and hopefully by the end of LAST MEETING SWPL1: the game Celtic will have three points. RANGERS 0–1 CELTIC Fran Alonso LAST RESULT CELTIC: Manager, Celtic FC Women SPARTANS 1–5 CELTIC RANGERS: RANGERS 1–0 HIBS CAPTAIN’S COMMENTS After a disappointing game against City, we’ve really bounced back the way we wanted. The first half against Hearts we weren’t good enough but since then. we have played 135 minutes of really nice football. We’ve created lots of chances and scored some really good team goals and it’s so crucial building that momentum and raising spirits going into the game against Rangers at Celtic Park. It’s a big week with three important games and we’ve started well with the impressive performance against Spartans, ALONSO DELIGHTED we need to keep that going into Wednesday AS YOUTH STARS STEP UP night’s game. Rangers have strengthened since we last played After featuring an impressive eight teenagers out of them and are favourites going in, but we are eager the 14 players involved against Hearts, Fran Alonso to frustrate them again like we did in the first round couldn’t speak highly enough of his younger players, of games. We know we need to be at our best to who he said slotted in with ease when called upon. get a result and we will be more than ready when it’s time to walk out the tunnel and onto the park. “I’m very pleased with how our young players stepped up. It’s a huge honour for us playing at Celtic Park We had a few injuries and some with their national teams and we will be looking to put in a performance but some of them played at a very, very high standard, fitting of the surroundings. so it was a good day with a lot of smiles at the end. Thanks, “We had six teenagers starting, so that’s a very, very young squad, probably one of the youngest in the country, Kelly so the fact we kept a cleansheet and kept them to one chance during the game is great.” JOHNSTONE: I’M SO GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITIES As keeper Rachael Johnstone marked her second senior appearance with a second cleansheet, the 17-year-old said she was just full of gratitude to be able to make the jump up, as she reflected on the 3–0 win against Hearts. “I’m ecstatic — I’m so grateful to get the opportunity to play in this team and it’s even better when you come away with a clean sheet. “I feel ready when the chances come. I work hard at training so when the opportunity comes I’m ready — I’m always excited as well, and have a bit of nerves, but they’re good nerves.” DONALDSON HAPPY QUIZ TO KEEP PUSHING ON Right midfielder Rachel Donaldson’s stint 1 WHAT WAS THE SCORE IN THE FIRST GLASGOW at wingback on Sunday seen her hard work DERBY OF THIS SEASON? rewarded with the opener, and having enjoyed the new role, she admitted she’s willing to work 2 WHO MADE HER CELTIC DEBUT IN A GLASGOW DERBY? hard wherever she may be. 3 HOW MANY TEENAGERS FEATURED AGAINST “It was different playing at wingback, but like I said HEARTS LAST WEEKEND? last week, I’ll do whatever I’m asked and give it 100%.
