Japan Prevails in International Thriller THURSDAY, 22 AUGUST 2019 WELCOME TO YORKSHIRE, ENABLE JAPAN PREVAILS IN After a pulsating opener, York prepares for the regal visit on Thursday as Enable (GB) (Nathaniel {Ire}) waves goodbye to her INTERNATIONAL THRILLER native England in the G1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks. Apparently fresh after a tussle with Crystal Ocean (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) that would have drained most other competitors, Khalid Abdullah=s unrelenting star mare has earned the unbeatable tag through her multiple efforts at this level. Chasing the Group 1 tally of Frankel (GB), which she will equal here all things being well, she will no doubt receive a fitting welcome back to the winner=s enclosure almost the like of that awarded to the operation=s pinnacle performer at this meeting in 2012. En route to a third G1 Prix de l=Arc de Triomphe, the 5-year-old has already conquered her chief opponent Magical (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the July 6 G1 Eclipse S. on her seasonal debut. There is little prospect of that form being turned around as they meet for the third time, with the other encounter coming in the Japan & Ryan Moore | Racingfotos.com GI Breeders= Cup Turf in November. Cont. p7 In the first genuine clash of the generations, it was the 3-year-old crop who prevailed in Wednesday=s G1 Juddmonte IN TDN AMERICA TODAY International at York as Ballydoyle=s Japan (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) CRAWFORDS HOPING FOR REPEAT STRIKE AT THE SPA edged out Crystal Ocean (GB) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) in a thriller Michelle and Al Crawford are looking for their second Saratoga and earned a berth in the GI Breeders= Cup Classic at Santa Anita Grade I win with Shancelot (Shanghai Bobby) in the GI H. Click or tap (Galileo {Ire}) in fourth early under Ryan Moore, the G1 Grand here to go straight to TDN America. Prix de Paris winner joined battle with the Stoute-trained 11-10 market-leader passing the two-furlong pole and after a nip-and- tuck final furlong gained the upper hand close home for a head success, with Elarqam (GB) (Frankel {GB}) a length back in third. ARyan was over the moon with him, he=s got better and better,@ Aidan O=Brien said of the 5-1 second favourite. AWe saw he got a mile and a half and we didn=t want to bottom him today which is why we came back to a mile and a quarter with the autumn coming.@ Slowly getting the message with every outing, Japan followed a debut seventh in a mile maiden at The Curragh at the start of September with a seven-furlong success at Listowel 11 days later before upstaging Mount Everest (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G2 Beresford S. at Naas later that month. Fourth after a troubled spring in the G2 Dante S. over this course and distance May 16, he was one of the quintet involved in the battle for the G1 Epsom Derby and ended up a half-length third behind Anthony Van Dyck (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the June 1 blue riband looking for all the world as if he would flourish as the season wore on.
