HISTORY! Learn the historical foundations of , early , and the trends that brought Rome into the modern era. MATERIAL CULTURE! Learn about Italian , , and operatic performance. ! Explore the history of ancient Roman architecture to the early modern era; learn about the meaning and symbolism of Christian and secular buildings, with a special focus on Christian monuments such as St. Peter’s .

1 Dates: Full Course: Month of January 2021 (Application deadline: March 1, 2020)

Highlights: Students shall live in rooms near to the , St. Peters Square, the , and Rome’s most famous sites. An additional overnight trip to Assisi, the home of St. Francis, is also planned. Other plans include: and the Capitoline , Forum, Coliseum, and the Pantheon, Massimo Museum, Baths of , Santa Maria degli Angeli St. John Lateran and its baptistery, San Clemente, of and the Chapel of St. Zenone Church of St. Mary Majors, Santa , Santa Maria in Cosmedine, St. Giorgio in Velabro and St. Paul’s Outside the Walls, Farnese (exterior), Cancelleria, Santo Spirito Church and the hospital courtyard, Via Giula, the Rooms Private of St. , private Visit to the Jesuit Archives and the Roman College, Piazza Navonna, Fontana di Trevi, , the Piazza of St. Ignatius.

Cost: $4,350 Early Bird Special: The EBS is an incentive program that gives students a $100 credit if they: make ALL payments in time according to the payment plan; turn in all required paperwork in accordance with Off- Campus Programs deadlines; and meet the Health Center’s deadlines for fulfilling the Travel Clinic requirement.)

Included: • Round-trip airfare between Spokane and Rome • Lodging at apartments in the heart of the city (next to the Vatican) • All program-related transportation in Italy • Admission into museums; guided tours by your professor; Papal Audience • Morning and some additional group meals

Not Included: • Travel to and from Spokane • Some meals – you should bring around $200-300 depending on your appetite and coffee habits • Elective museums, events, concerts, theatre • Jan term fee
