Until now, Department of Library and Information Science FIB UI has initiated many innovations and novelty studies that are produced by Professors and Lecturers of DIPI FIB UI. Each year of its anniversary, as a pioneer in the field of Library and Information Science, DIPI FIB UI always introduces and brings new ideas in the field. Those new ideas are brought through scientific events, such as international conferences and seminars. In prior years, DIPI FIB UI held Seminars, Discussion, Colloquium in the fields, such as: RDA, Social Media Mining, Library School, Sustainable Development Goals, etc. Library and information science is considered interdisciplinary in nature because it closely relates to other fields such as computer science, information systems, communications, management, documentation, archival science, library science, and social science as well. Library and Information science makes information as the core of the discussion that could be viewed from many different angles. To realize that, this year of 2018, in concordance of the 66th Anniversary of DIPI FIB UI, we proudly present The 2nd International Conference on Library, Archives, and Information Sciences 2018 (ICOLAIS 2018)). The theme coined in this international conference is “The Power of Information in Shaping Society,” that will act as a medium to discuss multidisciplinary topics in the field of library and information science. Through this theme, it is hoped that we can involve many professionals that have indirect roles in the related field of library and information science, such as architecture, information systems, computer science, data analytics, etc. The ICOLAIS 2018 proceeding provides borad ranges of papers from invited speakers and call for paper presenters, related to library and information science. It is also hoped that the conference could strengthen the bond and network between department and its alumni and related parties. Committee Chair, Margareta Aulia Rachman, M. Hum The Power of Information in Shaping Society 1 PRESENTED PAPERS 2 International Conference of Library, Archives, and Information Sciences (ICOLAIS) 2018 FOREIGN INTERVENTION IN ACADEMIC LIBRARIES IN INDONESIA Luki Wijayanti Department of Library and Information Science Faculty of Humanities, Universitas Indonesia [email protected] Abstract The management of university libraries in Indonesia has been intervened from foreign institutions through donation of library materials which seem for the benefit of the academic community, but it’s actually for the benefit of the donors. Academicians especially young generation are target of donation whether as the readers of books donated to the University or as the audience of programs or activities funded by donor agencies. By donating library materials or funding some programs in the University, the donors get their targeted audience. On the other hand, The University Leaders 'exploit' their academic community members to obtain MoU documents as one of the requirements of institutional accreditation, and as the evidence of internationalization. Based on the aforementioned background, it is found how the library becomes an arena

The Cultural Traffic of Classic Indonesian Exploitation Cinema Ekky Imanjaya Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy University of East Anglia School of Art, Media and American Studies December 2016 © This copy of the thesis has been supplied on condition that anyone who consults it is understood to recognise that its copyright rests with the author and that use of any information derived there from must be in accordance with current UK Copyright Law. In addition, any quotation or extract must include full attribution. 1 Abstract Classic Indonesian exploitation films (originally produced, distributed, and exhibited in the New Order’s Indonesia from 1979 to 1995) are commonly negligible in both national and transnational cinema contexts, in the discourses of film criticism, journalism, and studies. Nonetheless, in the 2000s, there has been a global interest in re-circulating and consuming this kind of films. The films are internationally considered as “cult movies” and celebrated by global fans. This thesis will focus on the cultural traffic of the films, from late 1970s to early 2010s, from Indonesia to other countries. By analyzing the global flows of the films I will argue that despite the marginal status of the films, classic Indonesian exploitation films become the center of a taste battle among a variety of interest groups and agencies. The process will include challenging the official history of Indonesian cinema by investigating the framework of cultural traffic as well as politics of taste, and highlighting the significance of exploitation and B-films, paving the way into some findings that recommend accommodating the movies in serious discourses on cinema, nationally and globally.

  • Gender and Islam in Indonesian Cinema
GENDER AND ISLAM IN INDONESIAN CINEMA ALICIA IZHARUDDIN Gender, Sexualities and Culture in Asia Editor-in-chiefs Stevi Jackson Department of Sociology University of York York, United Kingdom Olivia Khoo Monash University Clayton, Australia The Gender, Sexualities and Culture in Asia book series provides a welcome new forum for monographs and anthologies focussing on the intersections between gender, sexuality and culture across Asia. Titles in the series include multi- and interdisciplinary research by scholars within Asia as well as in North American, European and Australian academic contexts. The series provides a distinctive space for the exploration of topics of growing academic concern, from non-normative cultures of sexuality in Asia, to studies of gendered identities cross the region. The series will expand the field of Asian genders and sexualities by applying a cultural lens to current debates, including rural lives, migration patterns, religion, transgender identities, sex industry and family. Why explore gender/sex/culture through an area/Asia frame? What real-world or scholarly debates does this combination address? And, which Asia? At this stage, we intend to cast the net widely in terms of topics, and to consider Asia not through a narrow geographic lens but as part of a shifting terrain that will include diasporic Asia and West Asia. Research on gender and sexuality in Asia is growing precisely because it addresses real world questions about changing patterns of migration, changing meanings of ‘family’ in Asia. Chen Kuan Hsing’s Asia as Method (Duke University Press, 2010) highlights the theoretical debate in understanding decoloni- zation and deimperialization through globalization, hence highlighting inter-Asian debateson regional integration in the cold war era.

  • The Doxa and Legitimation of Literacy: Case of Yogyakarta Literature Arena
Advances in Social Science, Education and Humanities Research, volume 280 International Seminar On Recent Language, Literature, And Local Culture Studies (BASA 2018) The Doxa and Legitimation of Literacy: Case of Yogyakarta Literature Arena Aprinus Salam Faculty of Cultural Sciences Gadjah Mada University, Yogyakarta, Indonesia [email protected] Abstract - The literary arena is a battle site for litterateurs to gain recognition or legitimacy. The success of the litterateur is determined by litterateur’s strategy to manage his capitals, both in literature technically and in taking action to position themselves in the local and national literature arena. In addition to managing capitals, litterateurs are also in their respective doxas. Doxa is a cultural element so that the arena and literary production become geo-cultural. This paper concerns about the legitimacy of literacy in Yogyakarta based on Bourdieu’s scheme which divides the hierarchy of legitimacy into three levels, namely specific, bourgeois, and popular. The material object of this study is the arena and litterateurs in Yogyakarta. This study assumes that the hierarchical layers of the Yogyakarta literary society provide a more diverse complexity due to the primordial doxas. The results of the study show that the legitimacy of literature in Yogyakarta is called the main literary writer (tenanan), special literary writers, in-between writers (nanggung), popular writers, and cheap writers (ecek-ecek). Keywords: legitimacy; literature arena; Doxa I. INTRODUCTION In Yogyakarta, there are differences in the recognition regarding when an individual is called a writer with their various legitimate titles. The notion of litterateur is that someone who writes novels, poems, short stories, and drama scripts.

But, Robert Frost said that the road less travelled has ‘made all the difference’. It did and will always do so. My most sincere appreciation also goes to my two other highly supportive supervisors: Dr Ross Tapsell and Dr Roald Maliangkaij. • NILAI-NILAI PROFETIK DALAM KARYA SASTRA INDONESIA: Sastra Yang Memperhalus Akhlak, Mencerdaskan Akal, Dan Menajamkan Nurani *)
Apakah karya sastra

Maiyahan as a Model of Cak Nun’s Transformative Islamic Education Ma’arif Jamuin and Yulia Eka Saputri Department of Islamic Religious Education, Faculty of Islamic Studies Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta e-mail: [email protected], [email protected] Abstract-Emha Ainun Najib, best known as Cak Nun, is a prominent writer, humanist, “dai” or “ulama”, and a preacher. Despite his profound concerns on social, political, cultural and religious issues, he expresses them in simple language and accordingly, is explicable to the lower-class society. He named it “Maiyah”, or “Maiyahan” as a forum to articulate and convey his views. It is a medium to critically discuss various social, cultural, political, or religious issues. As a medium of da’wah (tabligh), it can be classified as non-formal education based on educational perspective. Supported by his populist style, and exceptional literary and rhetorical ability, he evokes the critical reason of his congregation and promotes a sociable and understandable tabligh. In contrast to the design of formal education, non-formal education has no time-constraint and the materials are miscellaneous. Unlike general tabligh, which is commonly a one-way communication and normative, Maiyah discusses actual issues in dialogic forum. It is closer to critical education model which aims to construct participants’ critical awareness towards a transformation of social structure. Keywords: Transformative Education Model, Cak Nun, and Maiyah. Abstrak-Emha Ainun Najib (Cak Nun) adalah seorang sastrawan, budayawan, sekaligus “dai” atau “ulama”, juga pendakwah. FACULTEIT WETENSCHAPPEN Geography and Geomatics Master of Geography Intersections between high-end art and finance in the global city A comparative analysis Freke Caset Number of words: 29040 Academic year 2014 – 2015 Prof. dr. Ben Derudder, Master’s thesis submitted to Department of Geography acquire the degree of Master of Geography 1 PREFACE As a human geography student with a high affinity for the areas of globalization and urbanization, the choice to write a thesis within the field of the global city discourse was easily made. When browsing through possible subjects and approaches related to this topic, the perspective wherein the conventional way in which global cities have generally been approached (as key sites of capital transaction and accumulation) is combined with the role of these nodes as centers for the arts, seemed refreshing and welcome, given the scarce amount of similar empirical studies on a city-scale and the growing recognition of urban cultural policy frameworks based on the arts within global cities and cities aiming at global city status. Along the line, many people gave me inspiring ideas, encouragement and much needed practical advice. Therefore my gratitude goes out to professor Ben Derudder for all of the above reasons and for providing me with the highly inspiring book Arts, Culture and the Making of Global Cities by Kong et al. (2015). Similar words of thank go out to Lizzy for making the time to discuss some of my statistical queries, to Laura for the critical feedback and diverting company in between, to Jeroen and Nicolas for the comprehensive reviews and to my ever- helpful father.
