Creative Writing: Mfa
since september 2006, the university of guelph has offered an innovative Master of fine arts (Mfa) program in Creative Writing. located in toronto, the program is housed in the university of guelph-humber building on the north campus of humber College. defining characteristics include the plenary courses Writers on Writing and Writers in the World, the participation of our stellar faculty and a diverse range of writers from Canada and abroad, class visits from industry professionals, and alliances with a number of cultural organizations in the toronto area.
required courses include three intensive semester-long workshops, two reading-based plenary courses, an individual study course with a professional writer. the program culminates in a book-length thesis project. Workshops address the following genres: non-fiction, drama, fiction and poetry. the CW Mfa is a full-time program and has been designed to facilitate completion within two years. the program provides students with a various opportunities to make contact with the arts and culture community, and especially to connect with well-established writers from across Canada and abroad. in its curriculum and with respect to the writers who participate as workshop instructors, mentors, and visitors, the Mfa program has both a national and an international reach while taking full advantage of its location in toronto. We offer fall Master Classes in partnership with harbourfront’s international festival of authors Program Highlights and provide extra-curricular pedagogical opportunities such as the parkdale project, a community outreach n students are offered an immersive initiative in downtown toronto schools. numerous other links – for example, with the eden Mills Writers’ opportunity to develop as writers festival, the humber school for Writers, humber College, parkdale public school, and toronto theatres – in a professionally stimulating provide Mfa students with extraordinary possibilities for professional development. and intellectually challenging environment. location n unique reading-based plenary the program is located at the university of guelph’s satellite location in toronto, on. all classes are held in courses, Writers on Writing and Writers in the World bring together the guelph-humber building on the humber College north campus. all students in the program for dynamic debates on the writing to apply life and craft. applicants must submit all materials electronically, including an application form, an academic transcript, a n semester-long opportunity letter of intent (two copies), two letters of reference and a portfolio of 25-40 pages (two copies). the application for one-on-one study with a deadline for fall 2015 is december 15th, 2014. professional writer n g uaranteed funding for the six semesters of enrollment
