The team to do this correctly in the quickest time – without scratching the wheels – wins the challenge. Possible sponsors: Continental Tire, Pirelli, Asanti, Foose Design

“Don’t Bring Sand to the Beach” Anytime you are working on a car with a few years behind it there will be rust…usually in the typical places like the bottom of doors, at the fenders and at the floor pans. One of the most effective ways to remove paint, rust and anything else you don’t want on your car’s body is sandblasting. In this challenge each team will tackle a section of the body as chosen by the judges and compete in a timed blast competition. The team must decide how to work together to make their work fast, effective and safe in order to win the challenge. Possible sponsors: Eagle Equipment, Norton Sand Blasting

The team to finish their disk brake installation first…and correctly wins the challenge. Possible sponsors: Wilwood, Brembo

“Use Your Head” An engine rebuild takes a lot of technical know-how, and this challenge will put our teams’ knowledge to the test. Each team will be installing new cylinder heads onto their engine blocks, and must follow the right procedures for this process. The teams will be tested as they get ready to take each step, the team with the most correct answers wins. If a tie breaker is needed, the team to complete their installation the fastest will take the prize. Possible sponsors: Edelbrock, Summit Racing, Dart Heads

“Texture Perfect” Putting together a custom paint job is an art, and if the person applying the paint doesn’t have the right skills it can be the difference between Picasso and finger paint. The hardest paints to apply are those with a metallic shine or texture - any wavier in the application will be revealed as soon as it hits the light. In this challenge each team member will be given a surface to paint with LINE-X textured protective coating. The goal will be to spray the paint on evenly, resulting in a consis- tent texture across the surface. The team with the best applications wins the challenge. Possible sponsors: LINE-X, BASF, Sherwin-Williams

“The Personal Touch” Every custom build is a reflection of the creative team’s imagination. In this challenge each team is to choose an element of their build that will require them to flex their custom fabrication muscle. It can be anything from modi- fying the console to include a cup holder, to modifying the frame to accept a rebuilt rear end. Whatever they choose they will be judged on the function- ality and creativity of their design. Possible sponsors: Snap-on

“It’s Not Easy Being Green” Although hybrid and electric cars are becoming commonplace, the integration of green technology is not always the first thing people think of when they think custom performance builds. In this challenge each team will have to come up with a way to integrate green technology into their build, preferably without sacrificing performance. The team with the most creative solution to the challenge wins. Possible sponsors: Kooks Custom Headers, Tesla Motors

“Stay Grounded” Finding an electrical problem is a process of elimination, but the more you know about the system you are dissecting the better. In this challenge each team’s car will be given a bad ground by the judges, and it’s up to the team to find where it is. The better they work together and use their knowledge of the electrical layout, the quicker they will find the bad ground. The team to solve this troubleshooting mystery first wins the challenge. Possible sponsors: Snap-on, Classic Industries
