There will then be poets from 102 countries on lyrikline, with around 9,000 poems in 63 languages and more than 12,700 translations into 66 different languages. All the poems on lyrikline are spoken by the poets themselves in the original, including recordings of the voices of great, deceased poets of the past such as Bertolt Brecht, Hermann Hesse, Rose Ausländer, Ingeborg Bachmann, Paul Celan, Hugo Claus, Mahmud Darwish, Nâzim Hikmet, Ernst Jandl, Heiner Müller and William Peter Huchel Foto: Roger Melis Butler Yeats. lyrikline works with a network of more than forty partners around the world. More Information: www.lyrikline.org The poet Peter Huchel was born in 1903 in Gross-Lichterfelde near Berlin and died in Staufen in the Breisgau in 1981. He is mostly known for his work as Editor-in-Chief from 1948 to 1962 of the East Berlin journal Sinn und Form (Sense and Form). After Huchel was removed from the journal by SED party functionaries in 1962, he underwent nine years of isolation and surveillance. Until he emigrated to the West in 1971, he lived in Wilhelmshorst, in what is now the Peter Huchel House, which was then a meeting place for opposition writers. After emigrating, Huchel lived first in the Villa Massimo in Rome before settling in Staufen in the Breisgau. Huchel received many prizes and awards for his work. Since 1984 the federal state of Baden-Württemberg and Südwestrundfunk (South-Western Broadcasting) have been awarding the Peter Huchel Prize for German-language poetry. The 1000th poet – the reading We will be celebrating our thousandth lyrikline poet with a reading by seven lyrikline poets on Saturday, 18 October 2014, as part of the 7th ZEBRA Poetry Film Festival in the Kino Babylon. The poets who will be reading come from around the world and can already be heard on lyrikline. They are Gabrielė Labanauskaitė (Lithuania), Ghayath Almadhoun (Palestine, Syria & Sweden), Jazra Khaleed (Greece), Øyvind Rimbereid (Norway), Paul Bogaert (Belgium) and Ulrike Almut Sandig (Germany). G. Sebald and Outsider Art by Melissa Starr Etzler Doctor of Philosophy in German and the Designated Emphasis in Film Studies University of California, Berkeley Professor Winfried Kudszus, Chair This study focuses on a major aspect of literature and culture in the later twentieth century: the intersection of psychiatry, madness and art. As the antipsychiatry movement became an international intervention, W. G. Sebald’s fascination with psychopathology rapidly developed. While Sebald collected many materials on Outsider Artists and has several annotated books on psychiatry in his personal library, I examine how Sebald’s thought and writings, both academic and literary, were particularly influenced by Ernst Herbeck’s poems. Herbeck, a diagnosed schizophrenic, spent decades under the care of Dr. Leo Navratil at the psychiatric institute in Maria Gugging. Sebald became familiar with Herbeck via the book, Schizophrenie und Sprache (1966), in which Navratil analyzed his patients’ creative writings in order to illustrate commonalities between pathological artistic productions and canonical German literature, thereby blurring the lines between genius and madness. In 1980, Sebald travelled to Vienna to meet Ernst Herbeck and this experience inspired him to compose two academic essays on Herbeck and the semi-fictionalized account of their encounter in his novel Vertigo (1990).

Vorbemerkung Bei der Analyse von Lyrik geht es zuallererst um die Beobachtung von ›Unwahrscheinlichkeiten‹, d. h. von Regelmäßigkeiten (Metrik, Reim, Strophenform), wie sie in der Normalsprache nicht vorkommen. 2. From 1923 to 1926 Huchel studied literature and philosophy in Berlin, Freiburg and Vienna. Between 1927 and 1930 he travelled to France, Romania, Hungary and Turkey. In 1930, he changed his first name to Peter and befriended Ernst Bloch, Alfred Kantorowicz and Fritz Sternberg. His early poems, published from 1931 to 1936, are strongly marked by the atmosphere and landscape of Brandenburg. In 1934, Huchel married Dora Lassel. The couple would divorce in 1946 and Huchel would marry Monica Rosental in 1953. Between 1934 and 1940, Huchel wrote plays for German radio. During the Second World War, he served as a soldier until he was taken prisoner by the Russians in 1945. After his release, he began working for East German radio and in 1949, he became editor of the influential poetry magazine Sinn und Form ("Sense and Form"). After the building of the Berlin Wall in 1961, Huchel came under attack from the East German authorities and the following year he was forced to resign the editorshop of Sinn und Form. From 1962 to 1971, he lived in isolation under Stasi (secret service) surveillance in his house in Wilhelmshorst near Berlin. Kotelevskaya* Southern Federal University 105/42 Bolshaia Sadovaia Str., Rostov-on-Don, 344006, Russia Received 10.01.2017, received in revised form 02.03.2018, accepted 12.03.2018 The article examines a so-called “death of a subject” based on the German metafiction of 1960–1990. This subgenre is interpreted as the most adequate literary form of problematization of the modern subject. The protagonist of metafiction is most often an artist or an intellectual. The narrative is superseded by self-reflection of the writing subject. Self-consciousness of the main character is the centre of the author’s attention, therefore a meta-novel often takes the form of a self-reflective narrative – a diary, notes, a stream of consciousness. The article analyses the creative work of Thomas Bernhard and especially has an increased focus on his novel “Correction” (1975). Such properties of a meta- novel as the ambivalence of “self” and the Other, the problematization of writing, the interpretation of art as life and life as art are analysed based on the example of the novel “Correction”. It is proved that German metafiction keeps its connection with modernism and does not lose the semantic “depth”, catharsis, as well as the romantic idea of an artist as a “genius”. This is essentially an anti-cultural decision, insofar as the basic understanding of our culture is often a humanistic one. So-called social media are of course also pioneers for free hatred. Noteworthy: It is mainly young women who hate. In this respect, literary hatred also has a feminist component. The article not only wants to justify hating as a first-class literary occasion to write (like other feelings, love, sadness, fear, longing), but also to draw attention to the fact that literary hatred has a tradition in our culture: therefore there are separate sections for Elfriede Jelinek, Ernst Jandl and Werner Schwab. They point out that a miserable existence/world not only determines the contents of the writing, but also deforms the language itself until its form looks like the contents, i.e. higher authenticity is achieved. Peter Huchel 1903-1981 From "Encyclopedia of German Literature" Carol Ann Costabile-Heming Peter Huchel's literary career spanned the period from the late 1920s through the 1970s. He made his literary debut during the Weimar Republic, and he continued to write during the Third Reich until his conscription into the armed forces in 1941. After his release from a Soviet prisoner of war camp in 1945, Huchel worked for the Berliner Rundfunk (Berlin Radio), then edited the literary magazine Sinn und Form (Meaning and Form). Huchel was one of the collaborators on the newspaper Die Kolonne: Zeitung der Jungen Gruppe Dresden (The Crew: Newspaper of the Young Group Dresden), which appeared from 1929 until 1932. It was here that he published his poems. He won the Kolonne prize in 1932 for his poem “Der Knabenteich” (1932; The Boy's Pond). Die Kolonne served as a mouthpiece for a new and decidedly unpolitical type of poetry, a conscious break with the critical and political overtones of Expressionism. At this time, Huchel developed friendships with Ernst Bloch and Alfred Kantorowicz. From 1935 to 1940 Huchel wrote radio plays, an activity that would influence his career after the war. In 1945 Huchel was held at the Soviet prisoner of war camp at Rüdersdorf where he underwent his antifascist reeducation. While in the camp he displayed his artistic talents, leading to a position developing the radio play department. He then rose to become cultural director of the Soviet-licensed Berliner Radiofunk, a position he held until 1949. Despite his indoctrination into communism at the prisoner of war camp, Huchel was not an activist.
