THINKING ABOUT BECOMING CATHOLIC? YOU ARE CATHOLIC BUT HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR FIRST COMMUNION OR CONFIRMATION? WHY NOT LOOK INTO ST. JOSEPH’S RCIA PROGRAM? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) A TWELVE WEEK PROGRAM RCIA is the process by which the Catholic Church directs and supports the way of faith and conversion by which adults (and children who have reached the age of reason) are initiated into the Catholic Church. RCIA is for those who are not Catholic and who desire to be baptized, receive first Holy Communion and Confirmation. RCIA is also for those non- Catholics who were baptized into other Christian Communities and now desire to be brought into the Catholic Faith. RCIA is also for those Catholics who desire the Sacrament of Confirmation and seek to be fully initiated into the life of the Church. Classes are usually offered in the early fall and are completed on Holy Saturday at the Easter Vigil. If you have any questions about the process please reach out to Fr. Lagiovane While the Catholic Church continues to stress the preference for burial or entombment of the body of the de- ceased, cremation is permitted by the Catholic Church. With that said, the cremains (ashes) are to be treated with the same respect and dignity as a full body. The cremains of a loved one need to be buried or interred as soon as possible after a Funeral Mass. Cremains should never be displayed or stored in an urn at home or sprinkled over land or water, nor may they be divided among family members and friends. Just as the body is reverently buried, so should the cremated remains be buried reverently, with the prayer of the Church. Please speak with one of the parish priests if you have any questions. A Word about our Parish Cemetery Over the last several years, we have made an effort to continue to keep our cemetery in good working order. The road in the cemetery was repaved with new blacktop, a new fence was installed, gravel was put down for a receiving area for burials and the mounds of dirt that accumulated over the years was removed.
