• Rev. Walker To Speak Tonight At First Baptist- The Rev. Ian Walker, pastor of the Lee Street Baptist qmrch of Valdosta, Ga., will preach at a special 7:30 o'clock service tonight at First Baptist Church. The pulpit committee at First Baptist Church will recommend next Sunday, Jan. 12, that Rev. Walker be called as pastor of the church. The pulpit at First Baptist has been filled by Dr. Forrest Feezor, interim pastor, since the Rev. Mack M. Goss resigned last year to accept the directorship of the Henderson County Com. munity Action organization. Rev. Walker, a native of Scot• land, grew up in South Africa where his father, aBaptistminis• ter, served for 33 years. He came to the United States for his education at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Chicago; Baylor University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville. He has served as pastor of Main Street Baptist Church, Bonn• ville, Ind.; Siloam Baptist Church, Marion, Ala.; chaplain at Jud• son College and Marion Military Institute and Lee' street Baptist Church in Valdosta. Rev. Walker is active in civic and demominational affairs. He is married· to the former Esther Kapplan of FranklinPark, Ill., and they have four children, Heather, James, Wendyand Jenni• fer. A special church supper will ,precede the preaching service to• night at the church.

"Three Hopes for Henderson• ville" is the program themefor the February 10 meeting of Hen• dersonville Civitans. Guest speakers will be Rev. F.M. Archer, Grace Lutheran Church; Rev. R.W. Styles, Star of Bethel Church; and Rev. Ian Walker, First Baptist Church. Rev. Archer is a native of Rowan County and former pas• tor of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Conover. He received his A.B. degree from Catawba College and B.D. degree from Lutheran Theological Seminary in Columbia, S.C. Rev. Archer resides in the local parsonage on Balsam Road, with his wife and daughter. Rev. Styles was reared in Con• necticut. There he attended the University of Connecticutbefo re transferring to Shaw University in 1962. Upon graduation, he entered Southeastern Theo• logical Seminary in Wake Forest. He pasotred the Tupper Me• morial Baptist Church from 1965 to 19~ Rev. Styles will receive his master of divinity degree in June. Rev. Walker, a native of Scot• land, grew up in South Africa where his father, a ~t minister, served for 33 years. He is a graduate of Northern Baptist Theological Seminary, Chicago, Baylor University and Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, Ky. He pastored churches in Indiana, Alabama and Georgia before coming to Henderson• ville. His family includes wife, Esther, and four children, Heather, James, Wendy and Jennifer. The Rev. Ian Walker, pastor of the First Baptist Church, will be the reviewer-4r the Friends of the Henderson County Library, at their next meeting, Thursday, May 20, at 10:30 a.m. in the library auditorium. Rev. Walker has chosen Pscho Cybernetics, by Maxwell Malts as the subject for his review. Malts is a plastic surgeon and has written many text books of this highly specialized subject. He has written two books in which his practical application of plastic surgery and its relationship to the patient's self__, image have been widely read by the general public-New Faces, New Futures and How To Get More Out of Life. Rev. Walker came to this country from South Africa 20 years ago, the son of a Baptist minister in Johannesburg. Most of his formal education has been in this country, where he first attended the Northern Baptist seminary in Chicago. After graduation he spent four years at Bible University in Waco, Texas. He then completed a four-year course at the Southern Baptist Seminary, Louisville, Ken. Before coming to Hen• dersonville, he was pastor of the Lee Street Baptist Church, Valdosta, Ga. He is now in his third year as pastor of the First Baptist Church.

He told the congregation that, "After hours, days and weeks of prayer, I have come to the conclusion that it is God's will for me to resign this church and to assume the pastorate of the First Baptist Church in West Palm Beach, Fla . " . Rev. Walker has been pastor of the Hendersonville church for the past eight years. He told members of his church that during that time "I had the supreme privilege of being pastor of the greatest church I know anywhere. The unity and the sweet, sweet spirit of concern you have for one another will forever live in my memory." It is understood that the West Palm Beach church has a membership of , about 5,000 persons. The personnel committee of the local church will soon begin its search for a REV. IAN H.C WALKER
