Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 2 Annual Report 2014-2015 PRESIDENT’S REPORT Season 2014-15 was one of consolidation and future planning for our Club, albeit a number of challenges continue to confront us both on field and off. The sustainability of any elite Cricket Club is reliant on its number of volunteers and the ability to develop and sustain strong income streams. We have a dedicated core group of volunteers who work in a committed manner to ensure the Club functions at a level expected. However the gradual erosion of available volunteers, in recent years, has had a major cost impact on the operation of our Club. The Board will continue to develop strategies for the recruitment and task sharing for volunteers that will offset workloads of a dedicated few. While I continue raise the matter, it is now considered a threat to our basic service provision to the cricket operations. Regretfully there appears a perception that Premier Cricket can afford paid employees to undertake many of the tasks required to function, it’s not the case. As a Club we obviously need to deliver this message better. The Club continues to be financially viable to an operation level, generating sufficient turnover to support, professional coaches, playing overheads, eg cricket balls, umpires, pre-season venues, Council fees, Clubhouse operation overheads etc. However for us to continually improve our amenities and develop players for both Premier Cricket and First Class Cricket, the Board believes we need to further explore and develop our income streams to ensure we remain competitive in all aspects of our operation. I reiterate my comments from previous reports that rather than carry a significant surplus the decision to responsibly invest in our future players via the assembled coaches is a direction the Board is strongly committed too. However with operational overheads continuing to increase and other income streams stabilising there may need to be a review of the extent to which the Board commits to this policy going forward. Coaching and player payments are a growth industry, while some Clubs have lived beyond their means and are now suffering. We would be irresponsible to head down this path, it is therefore extremely important for our Club to “live within our means”, and to develop strategies that considers how we can continue to grow in the future. After many years as a development coach having responsibility for assembling most of our playing list, I believe Dave McClean had earned a shot at the “big time” after coming off the bench the previous season. The Board felt continuality was essential, while ‘Macca’ would admit there were some challenges along the way, he leaves our playing list is in an excellent state to progress. On behalf of the Board I thank him for his commitment & passion to the role. Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 3 Annual Report 2014-2015 Having teams competing for finals spots, supports the strong view that we continue to develop talented players creating depth for our Club, also providing career pathways to both Premier cricket and associated elite levels of our sport. It has been a strength of our Club and will continue to be a focus going forward. Governance I acknowledge and thank the dedicated group that forms the Board of Management, we have had stable, proactive and supportive Board that continues to provide leadership through innovation, forward planning, as well as strategic vision that will ensure our Club continues to provide a regional pathway to Premier and first class cricket. I commend the efforts of our home bred General Manager Glenn Davey for his due diligence across our governance operations, putting in many hours above and beyond expectations. While Glenn has resigned from the position, his legacy of well-developed operation systems and management practices provide an excellent professional environment for our club. I take this opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of Jason Wylie, as a player, 3rd XI Captain and Board member over many years. Jason has advised he will not continue his Cricket with us; we thank him for his dedicated efforts and hope he will return in the not too distant future. Cricket Victoria The challenges for the sport of Cricket are ongoing, particularly in areas such as, participation, ground availability, and ongoing volunteer involvement. T20 is seen as the catalyst and the spark for introducing cricket to a whole new generation. It is considered imperative to the games future for holding ground in the sporting market place. The success and continued growth of the BBL competition reinforces Cricket’s place on the summer calendar. Volunteers I particularly acknowledge and thank those people who took on the mighty challenge of managing the canteen operations, ensuring we stayed at the top of the ladder for service provision to our loyal group of supporters and visitors. The canteen operations were driven by Noellene McClean and her astute management skills and dedicated work ethic. However the future sustainability of the canteen will depend on further volunteer resources assisting throughout the season. Congratulations to all players and volunteers acknowledged at the presentation night for 2014/15. A special thank you also to the dynamic Thursday night meals team lead by Noellene McClean and Jess Dunkling with an able supporting group providing a variety of meals for our enjoyment each selection night – this is a great tradition and appreciated by all. Another season of the “Heat in the Kitchen” luncheons was successfully driven by Mark Dunsford, even while the fixture didn’t best suit us this season. I again thank Mark for his efforts in establishing a significant supporter data base and a successful series of lunches and outstanding guest speakers. Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 4 Annual Report 2014-2015 Local Government Frankston Council provides a strong commitment to elite club sport in the municipality, we have benefitted greatly from this over our time in Premier Cricket. Butler Oval continues to improve from major improvements during the last season with complete drainage being installed and both the centre and practice wicket tables being refurbished. I acknowledge the commitment of Council Officers and their support for the improvement works that will benefit us greatly. Sponsorship Thank you to our major sponsor BUILDSAFE, Phil Graf and his team are fantastic supporters of our Club over a long period; we express the Board’s gratitude for his continued support. The Frankston RSL, have also been long term partners supporting our Club over our journey. Mark Dunsford, Dunsford Financial Planning, Martin Scanlon, Scanlon Property are all special sponsor partners and we appreciate their ongoing involvement. To all our players, loyal volunteers, members and sponsors I particularly, on behalf of the Board, wish to thank you for your continued support throughout the seasons. Your support is the very foundation from which we can better prepare to take on the challenges ahead that will make us a successful and sustainable Premier Cricket Club. Accepting our responsibility as a Premier Club in the region and the development and support of pathway squads is vitally important to our sustainability in Premier cricket. The strength of our ongoing partnership with local associations is imperative with support from Cricket Victoria and the Regional Cricket Manager, Jason Mathers, ensures a well-coordinated program for young aspiring cricketers to reach their potential. To the entire pathway support groups coaches, managers and scorers’ thank you for providing much needed support and direction. I also acknowledge the role that many parents play providing background support, guidance and for the manner in which many have embraced the “Heat” as their Club. Drummond Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club 5 Annual Report 2014-2015 GENERal maNaGER’S REPORT It is with pleasure that I submit Frankston Peninsula Cricket Club’s Annual Report for Season 2014/2015. The process of compiling the Annual Report (my fifth report) provides a great opportunity to assemble a record of the achievements and records of the club from the recent season. Personally, I have completed my fourth and final year in this role. Combining this ever expanding position with full time work responsibilities and a young adorable family became too great a challenge. In order focus on my family and career and to preserve my health (which showed signs of failing when I contracted pneumonia in February), I made the difficult decision to step down at the end of April.
