The options seem endless, and it can be difficult figur- ing out the right path. A Fremont-based nonprofit is on a mission to help teenagers figure out the next big steps – on teens’ own terms. In 2007, Kathy Laidlaw, a seasoned professional with a background in marketing, customer service, and hospitality, was asked to speak to a “Family Living” class about giving excellent customer service. Instead of exclusively customer service techniques, students wanted to hear about landing an interview or how to dress and prepare for an interview – even how to get their girlfriend’s mom to like them. The need for such resources and information inspired Laidlaw, and she and the “Family Living” teacher, Ruth Bauer (Fremont Unified School District’s Health Department Chair), began collaborating on creating presentations that help teens navigate and prepare for the next steps after high school, continued on page 7 BY DAVID R. Mr. Wydey’s TV Series Episode Guides Stargate SG-1 Seasons 1-10 The Stargate films This collection of notes offers a strictly personal take on the whole of the Stargate SG-1 universe, as seen on television. The reports were gathered over many years as the episodes unfolded on Sky TV as seen by a Virgin Media customer. Until the Great Disaster of 2007. As will be revealed in due course, Sky and Virgin had a falling out and they did not make up for several years. The last couple of episodes of series 10 were not made available to your reviewer until 2011!! Of course, other TV channels have picked up the torch, and although Sky continues to show SG-1 in dribs and drabs, the Pick channel allowed fans to see the whole thing right from the start on weekdays from Monday to Friday, and at the time of this edition’s publication, Pick was showing everything for a second time. As well as living on in digital TV heaven, the world of the Stargate is also available on DVD. And there are two complete fan-fiction novels in the RLC collection currently, and another is in preparation. Clyde E. Wydey, May 2018 F&F BOOKS www.FarragoBooks.co.uk All rights reserved. It was disappointing to find that neither of them would be there due to other commitments. Not to worry as the other two guests who came, we were happy enough to meet, Gary Jones (the ‘Chevron One Encoding’ guy from Stargate SG-1) and Kavan Smith from 4400, Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis. In fact there were to be 5 guests who have been in Stargate!! An impressive line up. Our journey to Melbourne started at a civilized time this year. But we arrived early Friday afternoon at Adelaide Airport to find that our plane had been delayed for 90 minutes instead of arriving at a reasonable hour now we were not going to! Hopefully the rest of the weekend was not going to have as many delays.

New On Video & DVD Family Guy Season 5 Seth MacFarlane's animated comedy continues its assault on pop culture, good taste, and the Fox censors with its riotous fifth season. Even though nothing has really changed for the Griffin family, there's still plenty of comedic ground to cover. Peter keeps his crown as the laziest man in Quahog, Rhode Island, but getting older means experiences that no man should have to go through. Meanwhile, his beloved Lois is still far too sexy for her portly husband, leading to a liaison with Bill Clinton. Son Chris joins a band, but he can't seem to shake his fear of the evil monkey in his closet. Daughter Meg continues her tour of mediocrity with a job at a store in town, while Brian the dog puts down his martini long enough to go beyond the bounds of Quahog and travel to Iraq. Baby Stewie remains intent on world domination and matricide, but he takes some time off to connect with an ex- love. Volume five includes the first 13 episodes of the fifth season, plus commentary, deleted scenes and more to delight Family Guy fans. Disc 1 includes the following episodes: "Stewie Loves Lois," "Mother Tucker," "Hell Comes to Quahog," "Saving Private Brian," "Whistle While Your Wife Works" and "Prick Up Your Ears." Additional Actors: Adam West, Mike Henry, Phil LaMarr, Phyllis Diller, Gore Vidal, Carrie Fisher, Gary Cole, Macaulay Culkin, Louis Gossett Jr., Johnny Brennan, Drew Barrymore, David Cross. Disc 2 includes the following episodes: "Chick Cancer," "Barely Legal," "Road to Rupert," "Peter's Two Dads," "The Tan Aquatic with Steve Zissou," "Airport '07" and "Bill and Peter's Bogus Journey." Additional Actors: Stacey Scowley, Alex Breckenridge, Lori Alan, Johnny Brennan, Danny Smith, Drew Barrymore, Adam West, Lizzy Caplan, Rachael MacFarlane, Kerrigan Mahan, Natasha Melnick, Lisa Wilhoit, Garrett Morris, Tamera Mowry, Tom Kenny, George Wendt, Rob Lowe, Phyllis Diller, Charles Durning, Beth Littleford, Kevin Michael Richardson, Ralph Garman, Hugh Hefner, Roy Scheider.

New On Video & DVD Blades of Glory Two comedic heavy hitters, Will Ferrell (Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy) and Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), join forces to push the boundaries of slapstick with their ice- skating farce, Blades Of Glory. Rival skaters Chazz Michael Michaels (Ferrell) and Jimmy MacElroy (Heder) begrudgingly set out to attempt a historical comeback in the pair-skating program after being banned in the men’s figure skating category after an unsportsmanlike scuffle. MacElroy’s former coach (Craig T. Nelson) provides them with the tough-love coaching they so desperately need. Despite their absurdity, the duo aren’t previous award winners for nothing, and their combined talent threatens the position of fellow American skating champions--brother and sister pair-skating team Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg, who are played by real-life husband and wife Will Arnett and Amy Poehler. But while Stranz and Fairchild Van Waldenberg may turn on the charm for their adoring public, they reveal their true colors as they connive to sabotage Michaels and MacElroy in their efforts to regain the championship. Ferrell's turn as the loud-talking, ego-swelling, hard-partying sex- addict skater is an abrasive and shrilling contrast to Heder’s innocent, cherub-faced prodigal son. Poehler and Arnett are splendid as the biting antagonists, and demonstrate a masterful understanding of how to portray characters full of spite and self-indulgence. Blades Of Glory is full of gut-busting wisecracks and painfully funny imagery, and will undoubtedly leave fans hoping that Ferrell and Heder will team up again for more hilarity and outlandish entertainment.

AUGUST 22-24, 2019 STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO Letter from the Chairman JENNIFER SCHUBERT-AKIN As the Steamboat Institute enters Welcome to its 2nd decade of “inspiring Americans to greatness,” we are looking to the future – specifically, to the future leadership that will preserve and protect our cherished freedoms. Look around you this weekend and you will see our 29 emerging leaders from across the U.S., who are attending this weekend on scholarships, thanks to our many generous supporters. And, look through this program to see the young, rising star journalists – our 7 Tony Blankley Fellows – who are speaking and moderating panels. We will also feature a debate on the future of our country: “Socialism vs Capitalism: Is America destined to become a socialist nation?” With this debate shaping up to be the central issue of the 2020 Presidential campaign, we are taking this debate on the road with our Campus Liberty Tour in September, visiting the University of Maryland, University of Texas – Austin, and University of Colorado – Denver. What about the future of free speech on college campuses? Our Courage in Education award will recognize a brave professor who dared to challenge his administration for the lack of ideological balance in the school’s extracurricular programming. For this simple act, he was subjected to a firestorm of criticism, including calls for his tenure to be reviewed, threats against his family, and destruction of his personal property on campus. And, closely following the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, we are excited to celebrate the future of the space program with NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine.
