The Open 10,000m track walks closed out Day 6 and both wins were outstanding. Dane Bird-Smith won last year’s National men’s 10,000m racewalk with 38:44.61. This year, he improved a further 10 secs to win in an even better time of 38:34.23. Fellow Queenslander Katie Hayward at 16 became the youngest ever Australian 10,000m racewalk champion with her winning time of 45:51.09 in the women’s race. They are worthy co-Walkers of the Week.
