SERVICES FOR CHILDREN Primary Health Speech-Language Pathology • Saskatoon Early Childhood Speech & Language Clinic at Royal University Hospital ( map)- Speech and language services are provided to children from birth to entry into kindergarten with specific speech and language issues not associated with a cognitive, physical or behavioural challenge and who reside in the city of Saskatoon. Caregivers may request these services by contacting the department at 306-655- 2434 or by completing our referral form. A physician referral is not required. • Saskatoon Child Care Speech and Language Services - Speech and language services are provided to children who attend a number of licensed child care centres within Saskatoon from birth to entry into kindergarten. Caregivers may request these services by contacting the department at 306-655-2434. A physician referral is not required. • Saskatoon Pre-Kindergarten Speech and Language Consultation Services - Speech and language services are provided to children who attend Saskatoon Public School and Greater Saskatoon Catholic School pre-kindergarten programs in the city of Saskatoon. For more information, contact 306-655-2434. • School Wellness Team - Speech and language services are offered through the School Wellness Team, which provides speech and language services to the following 3 schools: Pleasant Hill School: 306-683- 7390 (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten), Princess Alexandra School: 306-683-7410 (pre-kindergarten and kindergarten) and St. Maria Goretti School: 306-659-7340 (pre-kindergarten to Grade 2). For more information, please contact the schools directly. • Breast Feeding Clinic - The services of a Speech-Language Pathologist are available for breast feeding moms through referral from a Lactation Consultant at the Breast Feeding Centre, West Winds Primary Health Centre. For more information on the Primary Health Speech-Language Pathology services listed above. Public Health Speech-Language Pathology: Speech and language services are offered to children who reside in the rural area of the Saskatoon Health Region from birth to entry into kindergarten. For more information or to request these services, call 306-655-4150 or complete our referral form. A physician referral is not required. Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program (ABCDP): Speech and language, complex communication issues, augmentative/alternative communication and feeding services are offered to children who display or are at risk for significant developmental, cognitive and/or physical challenges. Referrals are accepted from family or guardians, physicians or other health care providers. All referrals are assessed through an intake process to determine if the child meets the program mandate. Services may be requested by contacting 306-655-1070 or completing our referral form. Alvin Buckwold Child Development Program (Located at Kinsmen Children's Centre) Child and Youth Services - Mental Health and Addiction Services: Speech and language services are offered to children from birth to age 12 with an associated mental health and/or behavioural problem. Caregivers can request services by calling 306-655-7950. A physician referral is not required. Mental Health and Addiction Services Inpatient Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology Feeding and Communication: Inpatient pediatric services are provided to children from birth to 18 years of age, with feeding and swallowing concerns or complex communication issues. Services may be provided in: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Acute Care Pediatrics, Maternity/Postpartum, Dubé Centre for Mental Health. Services include clinical and instrumental swallowing evaluation, communication evaluation, parent education, treatment (when appropriate) and referrals for outpatient follow-up. Outpatient Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology Feeding: Outpatient pediatric feeding services are provided to children from birth to 18 years of age, from a number of health regions across the province. Specialized feeding services such as tube feeding (nasogastric or gastrostomy) are included in this population. Services include clinical and instrumental swallowing assessment, parent education, and treatment (when appropriate). For more information or to request services, call 306-655-2434. Referrals for clinical assessment may be made by parents and other health professionals. When instrumental assessment is necessary, physician referral is required. SERVICES FOR ADULTS Inpatient Adult Speech-Language Pathology Services: Services include clinical and instrumental assessment for speech, language and swallowing and recommendations for referred adults who are inpatients in the following hospitals. A referral from one of the inter-professional hospital team is required. • Royal University Hospital (306-655-2434) • St. Paul’s Hospital (306-655-5072) *Includes head and neck surgery inpatients and outpatients. o Laryngectomy Support Group • Saskatoon City Hospital - Transition Care Unit and acute wards (306-655-8180) Adult Speech and Language Centre (ASLC): Speech and language services are provided to adults residing within the Saskatoon Health Region with a variety of communication disorders. Services offered relate to receptive language skills, expressive language skills, cognitive-linguistic skills, voice problems, articulation problems, alternative/augmentative communication, stuttering (fluency), auditory processing disorders and swallowing difficulties. A physician's referral is not required. Services can be requested by contacting the department at 306-655-8180 or by completing our referral form. ASLC is located in Saskatoon City Hospital. Community Services For adult clients who are unable to go into the Adult Speech and Language Centre (ASLC), home-based services may be available through the Community Services Program Speech-Language Pathologist. Speech and Language General Rehabilitative Services: Speech, language and swallowing services are provided to inpatients on the Rehabilitation Unit at Saskatoon City Hospital and outpatients through the Rehabilitation Day Services Program. Call 306-655- 8175 or click here for more information. Speech, language and swallowing services are provided through the Geriatric Evaluation and Management Services at Saskatoon City Hospital. Call 306-655-8910 or click here for more information. Speech, language and swallowing services are provided to inpatients on the short-stay Geriatric Re- Enablement Unit at Parkridge Centre. Saskatchewan Central Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Outreach Team: Consultant speech and language services are provided to adults and children receiving services through the Saskatchewan Central Acquired Brain Injury Outreach Team. ABI is located in Saskatoon City Hospital. For more information, call 306-655-7743. Long Term Care: Speech, language and swallowing services are offered to residents within long term care.
