As part of this, the DRH has developed a project in partnership with Goulburn Valley Health (GVH) aimed at improving retention of the allied health workforce. The Project Worker position has been established to support allied health professionals in all aspects of living and working in the Goulburn Valley. The Project Worker will play a pivotal role in supporting the development and implementation of the retention project. The Project Worker is responsible for supporting the design and delivery of solution-focused supports for allied health staff and developing community networks for the purpose of aiding the personal and professional adjustment of staff who are new to GVH and/or to living in the Goulburn Valley region. The Project Worker will be an excellent communicator, able to build strong working relationships within and across organisations, teams and in the community. With a track record in project management, the Project Worker is responsible for timely data collection and project reporting to the partners as well as providing secretariat support to the project’s two steering groups. The position is accountable to the DRH Responsible Researcher for the project (Dr Cosgrave) and the GVH Allied Health Retention Project Manager (Ms Kathie Lowe). This position will be located at Goulburn Valley Health, Shepparton. 1. Key responsibilities Work individually with each new GVH allied health professional to identify appropriate personal and professional supports to aid in their adjustment to work and/or living in the Goulburn Valley. Implement all identified adjustment supports in a timely manner where required. Facilitate allied health staff support groups and events on an as needs basis. Develop and deliver mentoring/buddy programs for new GVH allied health professionals at GVH and in the Goulburn Valley community. Connect GVH allied health staff with community networks, individual community champions, local clubs and groups and community organisations in the Goulburn Valley. Identify systems and organisational culture changes required to improve the adjustment experience of new GVH allied health professionals. Provide education and/or coaching support to GVH staff, in particular allied health line- managers to increase understanding of the needs of new allied health professional staff and the determinants of rural retention. Collect and provide retention data on a regular basis and as requested by the project partners. Write short reports and meet regularly with the GVH Project Manager and DRH Responsible Researcher to plan and review project’s progress. Support DRH’s evaluation activities as required. Selection Criteria 2.1 ESSENTIAL Completion of a tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Exceptional organisational skills and project management experience within an organisational change and/or community development context. This includes the ability to thrive in a changing and fast-paced project environment while working in a collegiate manner and confidently leading new GVH allied health professionals and their line- managers and the project partners through a change process. Demonstrated ability to plan workloads, manage competing priorities in consultation with multiple stakeholders and achieve objectives within tight deadlines and an agreed budget. Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong empathetic approach to establish and maintain constructive and productive relationships with new GVH allied health professionals and their line-managers and other project stakeholders. A proven ability to problem-solve to identify and provide appropriate and effective individualised and group support to new GVH allied health staff. A demonstrated ability to identify and develop community networks. Experience in establishing and implementing mentoring programs. Sound knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook and strong internet search capabilities. 2.2 DESIRABLE Public Health sector and/or allied health workforce knowledge. This could include an understanding of a public health workplace setting, the professional and personal challenges experienced by new staff and an appreciation of the different stages of a professional career in health. Established community networks in the Goulburn Valley area. Experience in developing, coordinating and delivering education sessions. Research experience and/or interest. 2.3 SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS A current driver’s license conforming to State legislation is required as travel to locations not accessible by public transport will be required. Job Complexity, Skills, Knowledge 3.1 LEVEL OF SUPERVISION / INDEPENDENCE The position will be co-supervised by and the DRH Responsible Researcher (Dr Cosgrave) and the GVH Allied Health Retention Project Manager (Ms Lowe). The incumbent will be an integral member of the Project Working Group and receive guidance on project development and planning from its members. The incumbent will be based at GVH and will be expected to independently apply skills and knowledge for proactively resolving varied and complex adjustment issues of new GVH allied health staff. 3.2 PROBLEM SOLVING AND JUDGEMENT The incumbent is expected to have exceptional problem-solving skills and experience in identifying and delivering solutions-focussed supports and activities to individuals, groups and organisations. The incumbent has responsibility for planning and prioritisation of tasks to ensure that the activities for which they are responsible are delivered to a high standard. 3.3 PROFESSIONAL AND ORGANISATIONAL KNOWLEDGE As a key member of the Project Working Group with responsibility for time critical activities, the incumbent is required to: Take the lead in foreshadowing and solving problems. Provide expert and appropriate guidance to new GVH allied health staff, project team members and other GVH and DRH colleagues. The effectiveness of all activities undertaken will be regularly assessed, and there will be a strong focus on continual improvement of project activities. 3.4 RESOURCE MANAGEMENT All staff are responsible for the effective management of their time and other resources. The incumbent has no responsibilities for staff management or budget control or performance. Whenever expenditure for activities/events is required, the incumbent will adhere to both GVH and DRH financial processes. 3.5 BREADTH OF THE POSITION The incumbent will need to interact effectively and appropriately on many different issues with a variety of staff at all levels at GVH and the University, as well as individuals and members of community groups and organisations living and operating in the Goulburn Valley. The incumbent will be required to work effectively with GVH Allied Health Retention Project Manager (Ms Lowe) and the DRH Responsible Researcher (Dr Cosgrave) in the planning and delivery of the allied health retention project. 4.
