Psychiatric services comprise acute and sub-acute in-patient, aged residential and community mental health services for the Goulburn Valley Region of Victoria. The main centre is located in the provincial Health Service Overview city of Shepparton, approx. 180kms north of Melbourne and offers a variety of recreational and country lifestyles. Goulburn Valley Health is associated with the University of Melbourne for Postgraduate studies in Advanced Nursing fostering a culture of lifelong learning.
Goulburn Valley Health offers an exciting opportunity for a graduate nurse to make the transition from beginner to competent practitioner in a well supported environment in the specialised field of mental health nursing. The graduate nurse is a valued member of our service and we aim to support and encourage personal and professional development. All graduate nurses are provided with regular clinical Supervision, an allocated preceptor, and are supported by the professional development unit. Major clinical placements are provided in the adult and aged acute in-patient service. Aim of Graduate Program Placements are also negotiable in other program areas. The Goulburn Valley Area Mental Health Service works in collaboration with St Vincent's Mental Health, Austin Health, Eastern Health and Albury-Wodonga through NEVIL to deliver an education program for graduates who are undertaking the Mental Health Graduate Nurse Program. Collaboration amongst the services provides a diverse and vibrant experience for graduates. Successful completion can result in credits towards post-graduate diploma at collaborating universities. Graduate study in most circumstances will be supported by the organization and assistance with application for further scholarships will be given.
