MVS/SP Release 3 includes all of the MVS/SP Release 2 features, plus additional enhancements. This book documents the MVS/SP Release 2 func tions as though they were new with Release 3. This document is not intended to be a complete reference on the features and functions of the MVS/SP Release 3 product; that detail is available in the standard product documents avail able with the product. This document identifies those features of the product of specific interest in a transition, and pre sents a suggested installation plan which can be tailored to an individual account. Appendix A contains the bibliography of the documents referred to in this bulletin. For a complete list of the publications (except technical bulletins) for MVS/SP Release 3, see the QS/VS2 MVS/Svstem Product General Information Manual, GC28-1025-4. There are actually two MVS/SP Release 3 products; 1. MVS/System Product - JES2 Release 3 (5740-XYS), and 2. MVS/System Product - JES3 Release 3 (5740-XYN). The primary difference between the two products is the subsys tem supplied (either JES2 or JES3). Unless otherwise indicated, the terms "MVS/System Product Release 3" and "MVS/SP Release 3" will be used to describe both products. Bibliography lAl viii Installation Considerations MVS/SP RELEASE 3 INSTALLATION CONSIDERATIONS This section identifies* by functional area* those features of MVS/SP Release 3 that should be considered during the installa tion. The following functional areas are discussed: 1. Base Control Program (BOP) 2. JES2 r 3. JES3 This section provides the background for evaluating the sug gested installation plan in the section "Sample Installation Plan" on page 119. "Appendix A. Bibliography" on page 141 of this document lists the documents referred to by this bulletin. For a complete list of the publications (except technical bulletins) for MVS/SP Release 3, see the QS/VS2 MVS/Svstem Product General Informa- t i on Manua1» GC28-1025-4. MVS/SP Release 3 Installation Considerations BCP INSTALLAflON CONSIDERATIONS This section discusses the installation considerations for each of the major new or changed functions of the Base Control Program (BCP) component of MVS/SP Release 3. The format for each topic is to give a general description of the function followed by those considerations that may impact the installa tion of MVS/SP Release 3. Installation Considerations Subsystem Definition Facility General: The Subsystem Definition Facility alloMs the installation to make subsystems known to MVS through a pre-established system parmli b member. Considerations: The Subsystem Definition Facility is optional and does not have to be utilized for any subsystems already defined in the sub system name table (lEFJSSNT)* or via the SYSGEN SCHEDULR macro. The following order is used during MASTER SCHEDULER processing to initialize subsystems: 1. SCHEDULR SYSGEN macro definitions 2. lEFJSSNT definitions 3. lEFSSNxx system parmlib definitions The or i marV subsystem definition must be in SYSGEN SCHEDULR macro* and is not allowed in either the lEFJSSNT or lEFSSNxx definitions. The elimination of the assembly/link-edit or superzap required to add new subsystems is the main advantage of this new facili ty. Also* the user can now specify a variable length parameter to be passed to the subsystem initialization routine. To initialize subsystems defined via this new facility* the user must specify the lEFSSNxx parmlib member(s)
