Question: Answer Question on Notice No. 1743 Asked on Tuesday, 25 October 2011 MR ELMES ASKED THE MINISTER FOR MAIN ROADS, FISHERIES AND MARINE INFRASTRUCTURE (MR WALLACE)— QUESTION: With reference to signage erected alongside safety improvement works on Cooroy- Noosa Road near the intersection with Sunrise Road, and as the signage bears the Queensland Government logo and reads ‘A Safer Roads Sooner Project…Another Project Funded from Camera Detected Offences’— Will the Minister advise (a) how much revenue was collected in 2010-11 from this source, (b) what projects the funds were allocated to and (c) what criteria are used to decide which projects are funded by this program? ANSWER: I thank the Member for Noosa for the question. (a) The total revenue collected from the Camera Detected Offence Program for the 2010-11 financial year was $69.578 million. (b) The Safer Roads Sooner program invests funding into projects to improve road safety, particularly at high crash locations. Each year, the state government provides $17 million from revenue collected under the Camera Detected Offence program to the Safer Roads Sooner program. The funding is allocated for projects to address known or potential safety concerns on the state-controlled road network. In the 2010-11 financial year, the state government allocated revenue to 98 projects under the Camera Detected Offences program. (table below) (c) For the Safer Roads Sooner program, the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ technical committee carries out an extensive analysis of candidate projects using eligibility guidelines, a crash history-based benefit/cost ratio and proactive risk assessment methodologies. The technical committee recommends a priority list of projects to be reviewed by an advisory committee for funding and approval by the Minister for Main Roads. The advisory committee membership consists of senior representatives of the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Queensland Police Service, Emergency Management Queensland, Local Government Association of Queensland, RACQ, Queensland University of Technology Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety, Queensland Trucking Association and Bicycle Queensland. 2010-11 Camera Detected Offence funded Safer Roads Sooner projects Road Location Work Description At-grade intersection or level crossing South Pine Road Keong Road Install traffic signals Maroochydore Road Main Road / Grieg Street At-grade intersection improvement Gympie Road / Albany Creek Road / Gympie Arterial Road Intersection improvements Robinson Road Ipswich - Cunningham Highway South Station Road Improve traffic signals Connection Brisbane Valley Highway (Ipswich Toogoolawah section (40.0 - Upgrading existing shoulders - Harlin) 65.0km) Seal shoulder/s Beaudesert Road / Granard Road Mount Lindesay Arterial Road Pave and seal intersection Road safety enhancement works Booral Road Main Street (5.8 - 6.2km) Improve intersection/s Guidance and illumination enhancement works Gatton - Laidley Road 12.10 - 14.20km Install, upgrade or replace roadside delineation New England Highway Road safety enhancement works Ruthven Street (Toowoomba - Warwick) Install pedestrian refuge/s Road safety enhancement works Maroochydore - Mooloolaba Road Pacific Terrace Improve intersection/s Greenbank Road Greenbank Road Intersection improvements Gympie Arterial Road Gympie Arterial / Sparkes Street Install pedestrian refuge Brisbane - Redland Bay Road Moreton Bay Road / Mt Cotton Road Intersection improvements Holmead Road / Pacific Motorway Logan Sub - Arterial Road Intersection improvements off-ramp Road safety enhancement works Peak Downs Highway (Nebo - Eton Range Replace/upgrade guardrail section/s Mackay) and end/s Road safety enhancement works Cairns Western Arterial Road Raintrees Shopping Centre Install/retrofit pedestrian crossing/s and facilities Gateway Arterial (Gateway Gateway Motorway (on/off-ramps) Install traffic signals Motorway North) Links Avenue and Cullen Avenue Cleveland - Redland Bay Road Bloomfield Street / South Street Intersection improvements Improve traffic signals Gympie Arterial Road Beams Road Traffic management devices Safety improvements Southport - Burleigh Road Nerang Street Intersection improvements Pacific Highway (Pacific 63.68 - 66.57km Install/replace guardrail/s Motorway) Road Location Work Description Pacific Highway (Pacific 72.80 - 74.90km Install/replace guardrail/s Motorway) Guidance and illumination Warrego Highway (Ipswich - Toowoomba Range enhancement works Toowoomba) Install/replace signs Undertake remedial surface treatment Mooloolaba Road 6.70 - 7.50km for high frequency crash sites Seal shoulders.
