This means that you need to take the following into account: S For a KLM flight to European destinations, check-in closes 40 minutes before departure; for a KLM flight to intercontinental destinations, check-in closes 60 minutes before departure (with the exception of Paramaribo). S Check-in closing means that you must ensure that you are checked in and that you have a boarding pass before the indicated closing time for check-in. This means that you should leave sufficient time to find your way around the airport and account for possible long lines at the check-in desk. S To facilitate a smooth, comfortable check-in, we recommend that you keep to the recommended check-in times as indicated. Depending on which airport you will be departing from, you will need to calculate between 2 and 4 hours. S If you check in after the indicated check-in deadline, you run the risk of losing your reserved seat and therefore not being allowed to board. You will also lose any rights to “denied boarding” compensation. S If you are waiting in line and expect that you will arrive too late to check in, please let one of the KLM employees know. Check-in times per departure airport Departing from: Recommended check-in time: Check-in deadline: Amsterdam You can only check in on the day of your departure, starting at 6 a.m. Domestic 2 hours before departure 40 minutes before departure Within Europe 2 hours before departure 40 minutes before departure Intercontinental 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Europe 2 hours before departure 40 minutes before departure USA & Canada 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Caribbean 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Middle East 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Exceptions: Tel Aviv 3 hours before departure Damascus 3 hours before departure Amman 3 hours before departure Teheran 3 hours before departure Beirut 3 hours before departure Abu Dhabi 3 hours before departure Dammam 3 hours before departure Dubai 3 hours before departure Asia 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Exceptions: Almaty 3 hours before departure Bangkok 3 hours before departure Beijing 3 hours before departure Delhi 4 hours before departure Jakarta 3 hours before departure Hong Kong 3 hours before departure Kuala Lumpur 3 hours before departure Mumbai 4 hours before departure South America 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Exceptions: Sao Paolo 3 hours before departure Guayaquil 3 hours before departure Lima 3 hours before departure Paramaribo 4 hours before departure 120 minutes before departure Africa 2 hours before departure 60 minutes before departure Exceptions: Abuja 3 hours before departure Dar es Salaam 3 hours before departure Kano 3 hours before departure Lagos 4 hours before departure Valid from June 1 – July 31, 2004. flight & oper. travel flight & oper. travel flight & oper. travel days dep. arr. validity by time stop days dep. arr. validity by time stop days dep. arr. validity by time stop AALBORG (AAL) 12345- 7 1155 1250 AF8101 AM 0:55 0 CLERMONT Jun13-Jun18 to -----6- 1045 1210 AF5544 YS 1:25 0 12345- - 1155 1250 AF8101 AM 0:55 0 BILLUND Jun05-Jul10 Jun21-Jul08 --3--6- 1045 1210 AF5544 YS 1:25 0 1234567 0635 0705 KL3145 DM 0:30 0 1234- - - 1155 1250 AF8101 AM 0:55 0 Jul14-Jul31 1234567 0635 0705 AF8006 DM 0:30 0 Jul12-Jul29 ------7 1910 2035 AF5544 YS 1:25 0 12345- 7 1545 1615 KL3143 DM 0:30 0 1234567 1550 1645 AF8103 AM 0:55 0 12345- 7 1545 1615 AF8008 DM 0:30 0 LILLE ACCRA (ACC) -----6- 1035 1225 AF4779 XK 1:50 0 ABERDEEN SD (ABR) to to AMSTERDAM LYON JAMESTOWN 1234567 2115 0610+1 KL590 6:55 0 to Saint -Exupery 1234567 1045 1125 NW3318 XJ 0:40 0 1- 3456- 0650 0800 AF4771 XK 1:10 0 NAIROBI, Jomo Kenyatta Jun02-Jun21 MINNEAPOLIS/ST. • Airline Alliances
AIRLINE ALLIANCES by Paul Stephen Dempsey Director, Institute of Air & Space Law McGill University Copyright © 2011 by Paul Stephen Dempsey Open Skies • 1992 - the United States concluded the first second generation “open skies” agreement with the Netherlands. It allowed KLM and any other Dutch carrier to fly to any point in the United States, and allowed U.S. carriers to fly to any point in the Netherlands, a country about the size of West Virginia. The U.S. was ideologically wedded to open markets, so the imbalance in traffic rights was of no concern. The encirclement policy began to corrode resistance to liberalization as the sixth freedom traffic drain began to grow; soon Lufthansa, then Air France, were asking their governments to sign liberal bilaterals. • 1996 - Germany fell, followed by the Czech Republic, Italy, Portugal, the Slovak Republic, Malta, Poland. • 2001- the United States had concluded bilateral open skies agreements with 52 nations and concluded its first multilateral open skies agreement with Brunei, Chile, New Zealand and Singapore. • 2002 – France fell. • 2007 - The U.S. and E.U. concluded a multilateral “open skies” traffic agreement that liberalized everything but foreign ownership and cabotage. • 2011 – cumulatively, the U.S. had signed “open skies” bilaterals with more than100 States. Multilateral and Bilateral Air Transport Agreements • Section 5 of the Transit Agreement, and Section 6 of the Transport Agreement, provide: “Each contracting State reserves the right to withhold or revoke a certificate or permit to an air transport enterprise of another State in any case where it is not satisfied that substantial ownership and effective control are vested in nationals of a contracting State .
