An impressive book, which is the culmination of 10 years research, interviews and collecting photos, was launched on Saturday at Arohena. Recollections include how people farmed the land, worked at the sawmill, taught at Arohena School and built the hall. To mark its 25th Anniversary year, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Cameron Mackintosh presented The Phantom of the Opera in a fully-staged, lavish production, set in the sumptuous Victorian splendour of the Royal Albert Hall with a cast and orchestra of over 200. The event also screened live in 250 cinemas nationwide across the UK and was then released for viewings at movie theatres around the world. Te Awamutu’s turn comes with two special screenings of this huge event on Sunday and Monday (see advertisement page 31 for details).
