In 2012, renowned glassworker John Miller and the Museum of Glass Hot Shop team created nine sculptures inspired by hood ornaments from the 1920’s through the 1950’s entitled “Classic Heat”. ey will be displayed at the Museum of Glass and LeMay-America's Car Museum. e custom made, hand-blown works are 25-inches tall and were in uenced by vehicles that will be on display at ACM including the 1952 Buick 8 Special, 1957 Chevy 210 and the 1929 Ford Model A. While the sculptures reference the original emblems, the nished pieces include elements from various makes and models.
During the Hot Shop Live Show on June 18, John Miller will create another piece from the classic heat series. It will have some of the same metallic surfaces and auto body references. Miller is known for creating artwork inspired by Americana. In the past he has created large-scale food and beverage items such as hamburgers, hotdogs, wings, and soft drinks. Also, Miller has made giant screwdrivers and car keys referencing the hot rod era of the 1950’s. John Miller is an associate professor of glass at Illinois State University and exhibits his work internationally.

It is powered by a 289 V8 with dual exhaust, an updated Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and front disc brakes with dual master cylinder making it a very nice driver.

Macchia, the Italian word for “spot”, is the chosen name for one of Dale Chihuly’s most dynamic series. Macchia is color, layer upon layer, one for the interior, another for the exterior, along with a contrasting lip wrap, dusts and small chunks of glass called “jimmies”. “Unbe- lievable combinations of color-that was the driving force,” says Chihuly of his creation of the Macchia series.
Cinnamon Macchia, a Chihuly Workshop 2001 Studio Edition, represents his earlier work in this dramatic series. Its oddly shaped, yellow form is dusted with a red pigment and has a clear body wrap, with blue jimmies added to give the spotted e ect. Each piece is approximately 6 inches tall and signed by the artist. Accompanying this hand-blown Chihuly is a handsome Plexiglas case for display and a book, Chihuly alla Macchia. e fty-four page publication is introduced by art historian Richard Hobbs and includes close-up photographs of the glass and fteen of Chihuly’s drawings related to the series.
