The Council, attended by all 39 Councillors, meets five times a year and makes critical decisions such as setting the Budget and appointing a Council Leader. The Policy and Resources Committee (in accordance with the Council Constitution) is chaired by the Leader of the Council with automatic membership on the Committee by the 7 Lead Members. In addition, two Service Committees cover areas such as economic development, infrastructure, planning policy, leisure, environment and community and will make decisions within their Committee remit. District Council elections will next be held in May 2019. The election of County Councillors took place on 4 May 2017. Elections of County Councillors take place every four years.
