There are reasons why the waters surrounding the are considered the world’s best for sailors

◊ Deep-water passages ◊ Steady trade winds in your sails ◊ Placid waters ◊ Line-of-sight-navigation ◊ Protected anchorages in idyllic coves ◊ No long passages from one island to the next

Most of all, a sailing vacation in the BVIs is the perfect blend of adventure and relaxation. Each island has its own distinct scenery and history — from with volcanic boulders strewn on its southern coast, to the only coral island of the archipelago, .

On the Sea, Unhurried, From Island to Island

Road Town is your point of departure to The Bight at . Snorkel the caves of Treasure Point — the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. From there, head to Salt Island, stopping to explore the Wreck of the Rhone.

Can’t remember the names of the islands marking the way to Virgin Gorda? Not to worry, the old sailor’s ditty tells the tale:

“Norman and Peter give Salt to Cooper and Ginger.”

The Baths near the southern tip of Virgin Gorda are an enchanting place to hike, snorkel, and swim in the grottoes and pools. The huge granite boulders are a remnant of the island’s volcanic beginnings.

Head westward across Sir Francis Drake Channel to , and a nightcap at the Hilltop Bar with its great view of Virgin Gorda.

The next day, The Dogs, a series of islets west of Virgin Gorda are a stop off for divers and snorkelers on the way over to the North Sound of Virgin Gorda; once there, at our support facility at Rock, reprovision and plot a course to Anegada. Anegada’s flats are the best bonefishing grounds in the world.

Weather

BVI temperatures are warm year round — highs averaging in the 80s, and lows in the 70s. In August and September, highs can reach the 90s.
