The Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was ruled by Jagiellonian for nearly 200 years, and under their leadership, the Polish Empire reached great heights, covering even the Ukraine and regions that much later would be a part of the Soviet Union.

The marriage of Jadwiga with the grand duke of Lithuania. Two years after Casimir’s grandniece Jadwiga inherited the Polish crown in 1384, she was married to the pagan grand duke of Lithuania, Jagello (Jagiello). He became Ladislas (Wladyslaw) II of Poland (r. 1386-1434), and together with his countrymen accepted the Roman Catholic faith. The two countries federated, at first in a loose personal union.

The Polish-Lithuanian Union. The immediate result of the union was the crushing defeat which joint Polish- Lithuanian forces inflicted on the Teutonic Knights in the First Battle of Tannenberg (also known as the Battle of Grunwald, see map) in 1410. This defeat transformed the balance of power in eastern Europe. Gdansk (Danzig) and eastern Pomerania (see map) were acquired by Poland, and the domain of the Teutonic Knights, together with Konigsberg, became a Polish fief (pronounced feef).

Revelation 6:8a (KJV) And I looked, and behold A PALE HORSE: and his name that sat on him was DEATH, AND HELL followed with him.
