Muito obrigada! 8 RESUMO Myxozoa são cnidários caracterizados por possuírem esporos multicelulares. Até o presente momento, mais de 2.400 espécies foram descritas parasitando principalmente peixes e invertebrados aquáticos. Esse grupo de endoparasitos vem atraindo atenção de pesquisadores não somente pelas patologias e danos causados aos peixes de ambiente natural e de cultivo, mas também pela complexidade do seu ciclo biológico, simplificação morfológica e sua inigmática evolução a partir dos cnidários de vida livre. Com o recente avanço das técnicas de biologia molecular no estudo de taxonomia e sistemática destes organismos, divergências taxonômicas surgiram em relação às metodologias morfológicas tradicionais. Além disso, as análises filogenéticas com base em dados moleculares se mostram incongruentes com as classificações atuais, o que têm levado a importantes revisões taxonômicas do grupo. A Bacia Amazônica é a região com maior diversidade de peixes de água doce do mundo, porém os estudos de taxonomia de mixosporídeos na região são escassos e a maioria das pesquisas até aqui realizadas foram baseadas apenas em dados morfológicos. Dos peixes que compõem a ictiofauna da Bacia Amazônica, merecem destaque pela importância ecológica e econômica os cicliformes do gênero Cichla (tucunarés) e o siluriforme Brachyplatystoma rousseauxii (dourada). Estes são peixes que possuem em comum a ampla distribuição geográfica ao longo de toda a bacia e elevado valor comercial. Diante deste

The ray-finned fishes are a highly diverse group of vertebrates. Yet, our understanding of diversification in this group is incomplete, and the role of body size in creating this diversity is largely unknown. I examined body size in Neotropical cichlids (Cichlinae) to elucidate the large- and small-scale factors affecting body size diversity and distribution, and how body size shapes species, morphological, and ecological diversity in fishes. Characterization of body size distributions across the phylogeny of Neotropical cichlids revealed considerable overlap in body size, particularly in intermediate-sized fishes, with few, species-poor lineages exhibiting extreme body size. Three potential peaks of adaptive evolution in body size were identified within Cichlinae. I found freshwater fishes globally tend to be smaller and their distributions more diverse and right-skewed than marine counterparts, irrespective of taxonomy and clade age, with a strengthening of these trends in riverine systems. Comparisons of Neotropical cichlid body size diversity and distribution to this broader context shows that body size patterns are largely abnormal compared to most freshwater fishes, particularly those of the Neotropics.

Tucunare´ were more abundant in the old remnant channels and isolated lakes than in the main river channel. The breeding period was delayed for c. 1 month in the river compared to the old remnant channels and lakes. The batch fecundity ranged between 3712 and 10 355 for females weighing 460 and 1380 g, respectively. Gonad analysis of egg-guarding or juvenile-guarding females showed that a female was able to spawn more than once during the breeding season. Nests were significantly larger and deeper in the isolated lakes than in the old remnant channels and in the main river. The period for spawning began at the end of the dry season (September) and extended until the end of the rainy season (January). The length of the first gonad maturation (L50) and the length at which all fish are considered adults (L100) were very similar for both species and coincide with the length of fish at one year of age. The analysis of disassociated oocytes evidenced a partitioned spawning, and that C. monoculus was more prolific than C. cf. ocellaris. The low fecundity, partitioned spawning, bi-parental brood care, and supplying of food for the young are related to the way of life, habitat, and reproductive behavior of these fish.
