RICHARD WILSON, JON STEEN PETERSEN & HANS DIETER ZIMMERMANN Falkum, T., Wilson, J. R., Petersen, J. S. & Zimmermann, H. D.: The intrusive granitesof the Farsund area, south Norway: Their interrelations and relations with the Precambrian metamorphic envelope. Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift, Vol. 59, pp. 125-139. Oslo 1979. ISSN 0029- l%X. A new geological map, covering about 1500 km' of the area around Farsund, south Norway, is presented. The country rock gneisses have been subdivided into three major lithostructural units consisting of augen, banded, and granitic gneisses. The intrusive 'farsundite complex' is divided into several distinct bodies and their contact relations are described. The plutons fall mineralogically, texturally, and chemically into two groups: l. The Farsund charnockite and the strongly differentiated Kleivan granite which show anorthositic affinites. 2. The mineralogically more normal granites such as the Lyngdal hornblende granite. This paper refutes earlier interpretations considering the 'farsundite complex' as one single unit in terms of structure and. composition. T. Falkum, J. R. Wilson, J. S. Petersen & H. D. Takket være massevirkningsloven lever hans navn videre i kjemibøker over hele verden.

MEYER & LEIF ROGER STØRSETH Korneliussen, A., McEnroe, S. A., Nilsson, L.P., Schiellerup, H., Gautneb, H., Meyer, G.B. & Størseth, L.R. 2000: An overview of titanium deposits in Norway. Norges geologiske undersøkelse Bulletin 436, 27-38 Titanium deposits in Norway are of three major types: igneous, metasomatic and metamorphic. The igneous deposits are composed of ilmenite, magnetite and apatite in various proportions and occur in geological provinces of different ages, and some have a metamorphic overprint. The other major Ti ore-type is the rutile-bearing eclogites in western Norway that formed during the Caledonian high-pressure metamorphism of predominantly Proterozoic basic igneous rocks. The third Ti ore-type is the Proterozoic rutile-bearing, scapolitised and albitised rocks in the Bamble region of South Norway. Norwegian Ti mineral resources are large. The Egersund province in southernmost Norway is by far the most significant. This province includes the Tellnes ilmenite deposit which is in operation, as well as large volumes of other low-grade ilmenite ores. The annual ilmenite production at Tellnes, ~550,000 t. ilmenite, is 6-7 % of the total mine production of Ti minerals in the world, and Tellnes alone has approximately 12 % of the world’s resources of ilmenite. Mineralogy is the overall factor influencing the economic significance of Ti deposits, defining the quality of the Ti mineral product that can be produced. Grainsize, mineral intergrowths and mineral chemistry are a reflection of the geological environment and later conditions of the ore-forming process.

The Precambrian Flekkefjord comple x is situated in the core zone of the Sveconorwegian orogenic belt in south western Norway, covering the transitional zone between the sout h Rogaland anorthosite province to the west and the Agder migmatite terrane to the east. The Flekkefjord complex is divided into 3 suites: the banded gneiss suite, the granitic gne iss suite, and the post-ki nematic pluto nic suite. The banded gneiss suite contains the oldest rocks wit h a large spectr um of lith ologies of differen t ages and origin. The oldest part consists offelsic and mafic layers, transform ed by bedd ing t ransposition into parallelism. They are of unknown age and are of intr usive or extrusive origin, probably serving asth e basement for metasedimentary rocks. The latt er comprise garnet-silliman ite-cordierite-biotite schists and garnetiferous gneisses, interpreted as metapeli tes,and quartzite-layered amphibolites, possibly of sedimentary origin. These rocks were deformed (possibly during several phases) and metamorphosed under high-grade condi tio ns during the F, phase of deformation, producing intrafolial mesoscopic isoclinal folds with axial plane foliation. The banded gneiss suite was intruded by gabbroic magmas, emplaced assillsand dykes and later deformed and metamorphosed to massiveorthopyroxene amp hibo lites and big-fe ldspar amphibolites, containing dm- Iarge plagioclase megacrysts.Leucogranitic batholiths were sub sequently emplaced into the banded gneisses and later intrude d by a 1160 Ma old charnockite.

  • Hanse Traders and Victual Brothers in Skjernesund and Other Outports of Southernmost Norway in the Early Fifteenth Century
Pirates and merchants – Hanse traders and Victual Brothers in Skjernesund and other outports of southernmost Norway in the early fifteenth century FRANS-ARNE H. STYLEGAR, PÅL NYMOEN AND GUNNAR EIKLI Stylegar, F.-A. H., Nymoen, P., Eikli, G. 2019. Pirates and merchants – Hanse traders and Victual Brothers in Skjernesund and other outports of southernmost Norway in the early fifteenth century. AmS-Skrifter 27, 245–257, Stavanger, ISSN 0800-0816, ISBN 978-82-7760-183-0. Friend or foe? Trader or pirate? Commercial shipping along the archipelago of southern Norway in the early fifteenth century could be a risky business. Hanseatic skippers must have had detailed knowledge of sailing routes and good harbours along the route past Lindesnes towards Bergen. Among a chain of good natural harbours, Skjernesund near Mandal formed a hub, a protected inner route consisting of several good harbour areas sheltered from the exposed Skagerrak north of Skjernøya. An overview of dated shipwrecks along the coast of southern Norway is presented and their context discussed in relation to why they wrecked. It is striking that the majority of wrecks have been found in port areas. The most common interpretation of these wrecks individually is that there are natural explanations for these as losses at sea. By comparing the written sources and historical events from the main period of these shipwrecks, it is probable that in many cases the cause was piracy. Frans-Arne H. • Siragrunnen Vindpark

  • Bedrock Geology and Quaternary Sediments in the Lista Basin, S
Bedrock geology and Quaternary sediments in the Lista basin, S. Norway HANS HOLTEDAHL Holtedahl, H.: Bedrock geology and Quaternary sediments in the Lista basin, S. Norway. Norsk Geologisk Tidsskrift, Vol. 68, pp. 1-20. Oslo 1988. ISSN 0029-196X. Sedimentary rocks of U. Triassic and L. Jurassic age are suggested to occur in the submarine area between Lista and the Siregrunnen bank. This conclusion is based on shallow seismic profiling data, as well as on data from dredge- and core-samples. The boundary between the sedimentary rocks and the Precambrian area to the northeast is marked by a major fault outside the island of Hidra, which probably continues northwestwards outside the mainland, and southeastwards along the Eidsfjord. Other faults with similar direction are registered both inside and outside the threshold at the mouth of the Lista basin, which therefore seems to be structurally controlled. While the Quaternary sediment cover over the threshold area is thin and even absent, the basin inside contains sediments with a maximum thickness of about 100 m. These sediments are probably marine and glaciomarine deposits of Late Weichselian and Holocene age. The retreat of the main ice in the basin must have taken place before 12,500yrs B.P., possibly 13,000yrs B.P., which gives a minimum age for the Lista substage. The age of an ice-marginal deposit at the mouth of Fedafjord, possibly representing the Spangereid substage, must be about 12,000yrs B.P. The assumed Mesozoic rocks occurring in the Lista basin are thought to be the source for erratics found in glacial deposits in coastal areas to the northwest, e.g.
