Congratulations to our two teams who took part in the Athletics Competition held at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford. Excellent placing this year and as always, fantastic displays not only of talent and effort but also of sportsmanship. More news about this next week. On Wednesday we had our Class Photos taken. Information on how to order these will be sent home once the proofs arrive. Please order promptly to ensure delivery before the end of term. Thursday Year 3 enjoyed their History Day on The Stone Age. The class enjoyed re-enacting hunting, crawling through mining tunnels and acting out a Celtic myth. Take a look at our Twitter feed for some photos of their adventures! Head’s Lines Today Year 6 visited the Open Day at The Police College where they attended workshops and activities that promoted the vital and diverse role of policing across the county, from training the officers through to receiving and responding to emergency calls. It also highlighted how the police work with partners to deal with crime and disorder, protect the public from harm, and keep Kent safe. During the visit, pupils were able to meet officers, watch police teams in action and take part in activities and demonstrations. There was a large range of interactive displays that sought to engage the children around some of the key challenges they may face as they move into their next stage of development, involving online safety, road safety, alcohol and drug awareness.

To promote this landmark event, we are adopting the Latin motto of the seventeenth-century notary public William Somner, whose penwork can be found in contemporary documents found among the archives. Lucit in tenebris veritas, meaning ‘the truth shines in darkness’, expounds the effect that we hope our speakers will have: that is, by exploring some of the rich diversity of material found in these collections they will shed light – where perhaps there was previously darkness – on a range of topics relevant to people interested in different sorts of history, including family, local, cultural, and ecclesiastical. THE benefice of Pluckley, being one of the most valuable pieces of preferment in the patronage of the Archbishops of Canterbury, has been held by many noteworthy men who have distinguished themselves at the Universities, and sub- sequently displayed considerable literary talents. It never- theless seems strange that only one of the goodly list of worthies was elevated to a bishopric, and another attained a deanery, and in both instances these distinctions were conferred on men of our own times. 1281. JOHN DE LYMTNG is the first Rector mentioned in Arch- bishop Peckham's Register, from which it appears His Grace admitted him at Lambeth to the Church of Pluckley on January 26th, 1281. As the benefice was then vacant, there must have been Rectors serving the parish prior to that date. Though Pluckley is mentioned in Domesday, it seems from Purley's History (i., 226) that there was no church there at that early period; Pevington, however, within the parish, was provided in this respect. The same Archiepiscopal Register records the citation of the Rectors of Great and Little Chart, Pluckley, etc., in 1282 for refusing to be present at celebration of orders ; and also that the Archbishop ordained at South Malling in September 1285 an acolyte, one Nicholas de Plukele (Add. MS. Brit. Mus. 6062, f. 51 b).

The Chief Adjudicator then includes a summary of these reports in her annual report to the Secretary for State for Education. The School Admissions Code (the Code) sets out the requirements for reports by local authorities in paragraph 6. Paragraph 3.23 specifies what must be included as a minimum in the report to the adjudicator and makes provision for the local authority to include any other issues. The report must be returned to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator by 30 June 2018. The report to the Secretary of State for 2017 highlighted that at the normal points of admission the main admissions rounds for entry to schools work well. The Chief Adjudicator expressed less confidence that the needs of children who need a place outside the normal admissions rounds were so well met. In order to test this concern, local authorities are therefore asked to differentiate their answers in this year’s report between the main admissions round and in year admissions1.
