GETTING TO THE BAHA’I CENTRE OF LEARNING

The Baha’i Centre of Learning (BCL) is located on the corner of Tasman and Brooker Avenue on the reverse side of the ABC building main facade. It’s accessible via a slip road, off Tasman Hwy. This slip road also leads to the ABC security entrance and parking lot and you’ll find the BCL parking lot and entrance located on your left before arriving at the ABC gates.

If you’re visiting us for the first time, you’ll find this a useful travel guide whether you’re arriving by car, on foot, by bus or bicycle. We care about the environment but we care more about your safety so please: travel with care and we look forward to seeing you when you arrive.

By Vehicle

There are three main vehicle approach routes to the BCL: via Macquarie St (heading north), from the Tasman Hwy (heading south), or from Brooker Ave (east-bound).

When approaching via Macquarie St remain in the second lane from the left as there is a compulsory left turn into the Brooker highway in the left-hand lane. 1. Exit via the slip road on the left, immediately past the set of traffic lights at the major intersection of Brooker Ave, Tasman Hwy, Macquarie and Davey St [lower right hand corner of the map].

If you’re coming down via the Tasman, you’ll traverse the ABC building on your left before you can get to the entrance of the BCL. 1. After the , take the right-sided city-bound lanes marked City Centre North on the Tasman Hwy. 2. Staying in the left-most lane turn right at the lights into Liverpool St and change over to the left-most lane. 3. At the lights [the green circle of trees on the map below], turn left into Brooker Ave [marked A6 on the map], until you reach the next set of lights at the major intersection. 4. At these lights turn left back onto Tasman Hwy, you’ll be facing the direction you initially came, and take the slip road immediately to your left.

Travelling from any other direction 1. When you arrive at the roundabout with the traffic lights you will either remain in one of the left-sided lanes and travel straight across, or you will need to travel around to your right, to take the Brooker Avenue exit on the left. 2. Continue up Brooker Ave to the major intersection, turn left onto the Tasman Hwy and turn down the slip road immediately on your left. Pedestrian access

We’re only a short stroll from the city, Salamanca and Queen’s Wharf, and even closer from the Domain, Cenotaph and Aquatic Centre.

From the city follow Collins Street to the Brooker Highway, cross the highway where you’ll find a set of stairs directly accessible from the sidewalk underneath the Cypress trees. Climb the stairs where you’ll enter the BCL premises; turn right following the BCL building around and en- ter through the first doorway. Or continue around to the front of the building and enter through the main double-door entrance.

You might also enjoy the undercover access from Bathurst St where you’ll emerge outside the ABC front- age to follow Brooker Ave eastwards towards the harbour until you find the set of stairs—approximately 20 metres before the major intersection.

And from the Domain or Aquatic Centre, follow the sidewalk along Tasman Hwy and cross the highway at the pedestrian crossing at Liverpool St, or on the corner of Brooker Ave.

Bicycle access

Bike racks are located inside the gates and by following the directions for vehicles you’ll access the BCL in a similar fashion. However if you are heading south on the Tasman you may find it easier to stay on the highway until you arrive at the traffic lights at the major intersection. From there you can easily cross at the pedestrian crossing to the corner of Brooker and then to the slip road entrance.

Bus Routes

Take the city bus from your area to Hobart CBD. From there make your way to the Bus Mall and board Bus A, B (except the Express) or D. Travel to Stop 3 which will take you opposite the ABC building where you can alight. From there cross the highway through the undercover accessway and follow Brooker Avenue until you arrive at the set of stairs that will lead you up to the BCL grounds.

Parking

On the map, adjacent to the BCL building, you will notice three areas labelled ‘Parking’. The first labelled area, closest to the BCL, consists of 15 designated parking spaces and includes 2 handicapped spots. The second, directly across from the building and on the right hand side of the slip road, is also available for vehicles and is unmarked. If those areas are full, additional unmarked parking can be found on the vacant lot (the third ’Parking’ label on the map). It is obscured by small trees and not visible as you drive in and can be accessed by slowly following the slip road around - as if you were exiting the area and heading back onto the Tasman. The lot is on your immediate left before you reach the highway. We regret that we are currently unable to take responsibility or provide any liability for vehicles parked on the unmarked areas and we wish to advise that your vehicle is parked there at your own risk.
