A very important paper by English scientist Sir Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, describing his experiments on heat. Rumford was an American-bron Loyalist, born in Woburn, Massachusetts, who fought for England during the American Revolution, upon his move to England he continued his experiments in heat, eventually developing the drip coffeepot and Rumford fireplace. Rumford was crucial in changing scientific thinking from a view of heat as being caloric, but a form of motion resulting in frictional heat.
