October 10, 2007 - January 10, 2008 Paula Crawford Paintings Properties, Inc. and Jean Efron Art Consultants, LLC, are pleased to announce an exhibition of paintings by Paula Crawford in the lobby of 505 9th Street, NW. This exhibition embodies a small cross-section of Paula Crawford's recent studio practice. Beginning with the Order/Disorder series, Crawford sets out to create a perfect mathematical order of carefully constructed curved lines and then disrupts that order with a large-brushed freehand gesture, where paint is allowed drip into its own natural formations. The two Disorder/Order works contain the same set of repeated motifs as Order/Disorder but are painted in a single freehand gesture. Crawford approaches the line between order and chaos without crossing it. "Where does order break down into random chaos?" Crawford asks, "Is there a between place where we experience both simultaneously?" River Cells is the first work of a new series. In this painting, relationships between the interior (microscopic) and exterior (macroscopic) natural world are considered. "It's interesting," Crawford remarks, " how stones below the surface water in a riverbed seem to resemble cell walls or some other under-the-microscope world. I thought I'd try to paint that connection." There is no public reception for the exhibition. Location: 505 9th Street, NW; West Lobby, Washington, DC 20004 Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. For further information contact: Jean Efron Art Consultants, LLC 2440 Virginia Avenue NW, Suite 1210, Washington DC 20037 Phone: 202.223.1626 / Fax: 202.223.0275 Email: [email protected] / Web: www.efronart.com

October 10 – November 4, 2007 This Land-Our Land - Sculpture & Drawings by Rosemary Luckett Rosemary Luckett juxtaposes sculpture and mixed media drawings in her solo show “This Land-Our Land,” a lively interplay between 2-D and 3-D expression. Continuing with themes from recent Nature House collages, she pairs the unexpected: light bulbs with bones, forks with purses, and Christmas lights with asthma inhalers. Each piece is built around a single real or symbolic object or group of items seemingly unrelated to each other. Opening reception: Friday, October 12, 6 - 8:30 pm Location: MAIN GALLERY, TOUCHSTONE GALLERY, 406 7th St NW 2nd Floor, Washington DC 20004 Gallery Hours: Wed-Fri 11-5 Sat-Sun 12-5 Info: 202-347-2787 (phone) / 202-347-3339 (fax) / www.touchstonegallery.com

October 3 - 27, 2007 GAIL HILLIOW WATKINS - Iconic Imagery "In the cycle of history, the new is created from the old." On view here are the resulting works, with each painting representing an inset of the historical process. Location: Gallery 10, 1519 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington DC 20036 Info: 202.232.3326 / [email protected] / www.gallery10dc.com

October 2 - November 4, 2007 Candace Edgerley - Trace Elements Candace Edgerley creates hand-dyed silks, cottons and linens, which are subsequently integrated into wall pieces, art quilts and clothing. Removing color from black silk organza to obtain unusual hues and transforming stark white silk into colorful variegated cloth both reveal her trademark magical touch. Using only three or four elemental colors, she multiplies hues and gradations of color into complex designs. Techniques included in her Fiberworks solo exhibition "Trace Elements," are shibori-pleating, resist dyeing, and sewing small segments of colorful silk together to form large, filmy wall pieces that stir with the slightest breeze, taking on a life of their own. These unique pieces of subtle colors and shapes work together to tell a story of history and mystery much like layers of stone on a canyon wall tell tales of ancient seas, trilobites and chemical processes. Opening Reception: Sunday, October 14, 1-5pm Location: Fiberworks Gallery, Torpedo Factory Art Center, 105 N. Union St., Alexandria VA 22314 Info: 703-836-5807 / [email protected]

History: The first Falls Church Film Festival was launched in 2006 by longtime Falls Church citizen/activist/visionary Dave Eckert. He had been producing environmental documentaries and showing them around the DC area for quite some time, when it occurred to him that there might be a fair amount of local interest in putting on a film fest. His idea came to life in April of 2006 when six area filmmakers showed their works at the inaugural Falls Church Film Festival held at the historic State Theatre. The night was a success as the crowd was entertained by the diverse showings. More Info: www.FallsChurchFilmFest.com / www.TheStateTheatre.com
