Mr lvardas curently lives in Athens, but lived in London for many years and is well known here. In your edition of 7th Februar 2008, there appeared an aricle by Allan Kozinn under the above title ("the Aricle"). Your newspaper is widely circulated in England and Wales. We quote from the ninth paragraph of the Aricle as follows: \ i. "In the years since Lenno/l's death, in 1980, Harrison and Mr McCartney reconsidered the accusations againST rhe ùlaharishi. ),'vir AfcCüïtie,y has /loted that the rumors of sexual impropl'eiy were raised by Alexis Mardas, a supposed inventor and charlatan who had become a Bearles insider. " The above references are seriously defamatory of our client, in the following respects: 1. Thcy have referred to him as a "supposed" inventor. He is and was a highly qualified electrical engineer who has created numerous electronic products, sold inter alia, to the Ministry of Defence, H M Customs & Excise an'd vari'ous frienåly goverrunents ~round Ibe wodd. il,J'''\, ''') 2. It refers to him as a "charlatan ", He is not. 3, It states that he had "agendas of his own aiid may have fabricated (or at least exaggerated) the stOlY". He had no agendas of his own. He was not the author of any rumours about sexual impropriety on the pan of the Maharishi. On the contrar: John Lennon, George Harison and he were all told thereof by the American lady in question and were later witnesses to such impropriety. As a result, John Lennon himself wrote a song called Sexy Sadie" relating to the incident. 4. It implies in the penuliimate paragraph that, had rumours of sexual impropriety (presumed by the Article to he untre) not been made (impliedly by our client), the Beatles would have made more money and that our client is responsible for damage to the Beatles' financial position. This is untrue. Our client requires the following: ( a. an immediate retraction and apology, in a form approved by us, in The New York Times in a suiiably prominent position; b. suitable compensation by way of daniages; c. costs.
