hen it comes to collegiate tennis, the Southeastern SEC Women’s Tennis Conference is as good as it gets. SEC member INTRO Š W schools remain the most consistently dominant in BY THE NUMBERS... In 2004, the SEC sent eight teams to the NCAA COACHES Tournament for women's tennis, tying for the most of any 3 straight NCAA singles championships from 1992-94 LADY TIGERS conference in attendance. And for the 18th consecutive year, the SEC sent a team to the semifinal round.Vanderbilt earned 2004 REVIEW that spot after defeating Georgia, another SEC school, in the 6 quarterfinal round.The final team rankings featured two SEC NCAA team championships in the last 13 years ('92, '94, '96, '98, '00 and '03) HISTORY schools in the top three with Vanderbilt second and Florida LSU third. In addition, six SEC teams broke into the top 20 and 5 eight teams into the top 35. NCAA doubles titles since 1989 The SEC was equally as impressive last year in individual competition. Two women from SEC schools, Aibika Kalsarieva of Kentucky and Audra Falk of Vanderbilt, 6 advanced all the way to the quarterfinals of singles play. The NCAA singles titles since 1984 final singles rankings saw an SEC player ranked at No. 2, Alexis Gordon of Florida, the SEC Player of the Year. Falk fin- 18 ished at No. 9, leaving two singles players in the top 10. All straight years with a team in the national semifinals (1987-2004) together, the SEC placed six women in the top 25 and 12 total in the top 50. The SEC also placed five in the top 25 of the 86 final doubles rankings including the Vanderbilt duo of Aleke singles ITA All-Americans since 1990 Tsoubanos and Kelly Schmandt who made it to the NCAA semifinals at No. 2. "The SEC is tough. And it's the best. You want to play 102 against the best and coach against the best and we get to do doubles ITA All-Americans since 1990 that every time out every year," said LSU head coach Tony Minnis.
