/LiveAtZédel /LiveAtZédel I am delighted to announce the second season at Live at Zédel, our rich programme of music, cabaret, comedy, musical theatre and spoken word that inhabits the uniquely beautiful Brasserie Zédel in Piccadilly.
Since relaunching in September 2016, the programme has sought to broaden the range of talent being showcased and by extension the diversity of the audiences who come to enjoy this cultural and dining hub in the heart of Soho.
This season marks a number of firsts for the venue. After You is the first new musical commissioned especially for Crazy Coqs. An intimate two hander, it will navigate the explosive and corrosive impact of a chance encounter in a restaurant. Celebrating the sumptuous Art Deco design and French flavours of Brasserie Zédel French Fest from March 5 – 12 offers a feast of Francophile culture – music, opera, theatre and comedy – with several shows in French, English, or both.
Many shows established in the first season return with residencies in the second. Look out for cabaret sensations La Voix, Miss Hope Springs, House of Q, or for unrivalled jazz, Smitty’s Big Four and Hailey Tuck. Matt Cardle is back for three shows and following her sell-out run in November, Maria Friedman returns for a three week run in May. Whilst the ground- breaking Philarmonia residency in Crazy Coqs this autumn culminates in a performance with the full Orchestra in the Brasserie for a dinner-concert on January 29th.

AFTER YOU In a first for the venue, this intimate new musical from writing team Katie Lam (lyrics, book) and Alex Parker (music) has been especially written for Crazy Coqs and will receive its world première next April. After You is a story about falling in love, the price of conventional success, and the things we sometimes need to keep for ourselves.
By chance dining out alone at adjacent tables, two strangers strike up a conversation. Their perfect lives and perfect marriages are forgotten in the sudden and deep pull they feel to one another. Sidney Bechet, the New Orleans master of the clarinet and soprano saxophone, spent the last and most fruitful years of his career living in France. Bechet, on par with only Louis Armstrong as having a definitive trad jazz sound, teamed with various musicians in this period for a varied musical output. On one end were his popular opuses, Petite Fleur and Si Tu Vois Ma Mere, recorded with Claude Luter, and on the other, his more experimental sessions with bebop pianist, Martial Solal. Smitty’s Big Four cites Bechet as one of their primary influences and is excited to bring you a programme of music from his Paris years. Melinda has written and performed with co-writer Jeremy Limb at numerous International Festivals. A graduate of The Royal College of Music, Melinda toured Europe for four years as the soloist to the famous violinist Andre Rieu.

Starting as a finger-picking folkie and winding up as a jazz-savvy experimentalist, Joni Mitchell has brought a sharp eye, light touch and an agile voice to her songs, often dissecting her romances and skewered myopic relationships.
In 1997 Mitchell was inducted into the “Rock and Roll Hall of Fame”. A lifetime of smoking put a deep mark on Mitchell’s voice, but Mitchell repeatedly and adamantly expressed no regrets about the rocky course she set. “I would do it all over again in a minute for the musical education.”
