This map shows the plans for the village of Hadera, located on ’s coastal plain, south of Haifa, from around 1890.

The map was created by the council in Vilna, Lithuania, in order to plan the distribution of land between those about to settle in the new moshava of Hadera.

The map is written in Hebrew and coloured in by hand.

The left-hand side of the map shows land that was designated for residential and agricultural use. Certain areas were designated for members of communities from Vilna, Kovna and Riga. In the centre of the map is a large area with vineyards that had been planted in 1880 by Yehoshua Hankin, who purchased the land.

Buildings – house, cow shed – basement, treasury, sorghum, etc. – 15 area for garden with place for buildings – 150 l. Guarding – for all that we will achieve that year – 1 c. Milking cow with a year-old calf – 6 m. Hire a farmer to plough, sow, and harvest – 6 d. Pair of oxen – 10 Total for each house owner – 275 e. Flock of sheep – if there is a permit to rear - 6 …. to this each individual must be able to provide f.
